This is a fucking amazing product at $2499. Shocking, really.  Apple products are "over-priced" my ass.

I wonder what that is in pounds.

    My guess would be £2,499.

Now we are going to need a 5K Apple TV and Projector to AirPlay to.

    PINK UNICORN!!!!

Now I wonder if you can plug this into a Mac Pro and use it like a second monitor someday when the 4.0Ghz Core i5 is past its prime...

Yep - should be able to with Target Display Mode.

Ignoring the waste of time in making a television, won’t you have the purists after you because the thing won’t ever be displaying 720, 1080, or 2160 content 1:1? :p

My wallet doesn't think it's that great, but what does he know anyway?

There's your problem, you need a female wallet, they 'she'd' know such a bargain when 'she' sees one! :D

if most people don't do those things, then they won't spend money including it or making a bigger chassis. hate to say it but burning DVDs is being an outlier use case these days.

Can't wait to see this in person and the price is right.

    Meh.... no new AppleTV. :\

The store front still shows the old one, and the pricing says "Just $99" (as opposed to "Starting at...") I was hoping for a quiet bump in functionality/storage/etc....

It's ok. There are third party drives and thumb drives.

    Can't believe it's just $2500. I would have figured at least $3k.

    £1999.

That's a pretty amazing price for a 5k display with a thoroughly decent computer.

I wonder how that ATI (sorry, 'AMD') gpu will drive that 5k display.

...won't be able to resist seeing one in the flesh.

I guess I was right about the retina coming to the iMac in 2014.  Maybe I should have waited the last two years...  (Nahhh...)

If only you could rotate the screen to portrait mode...

The iMac.  A real work of art.

what about the stand alone 5K retina monitor to use with the MacPro?  wonder if this will follow soon.  Not having an Apple monitor is the thing that's held me back from purchasing the MacPro.

My thoughts too, my Mac Pro is drooling for one. Perhaps they will just slip one on to the price list in the next month or two. I was trying to think how low Apple could price it ... if you extract the cost of the Mac bits from the iMac I am thinking $1,795 for a 27" 5K Apple display seems feasible.. but perhaps we may see the return of a 30" for the pro end, I loved 30" ACD back in the day.

Who said it's a television? It's simply a large display with a little $99 box (and HDMI port) in it.... :p

At least you can have the 250 gig SSD now without being penalised for it.

Happy for the Mini crowd getting a great update... :)  Spec boost and price cut.

IN context, you're paying far less for the iMac with 5k display than the Dell 5k display alone?  (Did I get that right?)

I'm loving the iMac Retina… too expensive for me personally, but a great value for what you're getting! I am a little surprised that there were no updates to the rest of the iMac line though, they feel a little left out I think.
