This does puzzle me. IPad Air2 is a massive update but nobody seems willing to acknowledge that fact.

I acknowledge it! It's a huge update! Anybody who claims otherwise simply doesn't know what they're talking about and is totally clueless.

The A8X chip seems to be a beast! And the A8 motion sensor seems to be cool too. 40% faster CPU! 2.5x faster graphics! How in the hell is that minor?

What else has been improved or is brand new?

Improved camera (both front & back) plus many camera features from the iPhone like slow mo, burst mode, time lapse and panorama.

Super thin(thinnest tablet in the world!, thinner than an iPhone 6) and super light, less than a damn pound!

Improved display, which is now optically bonded, which means no more gaps, just like on the iPhone. This is the first time that such a display is available for iPad. And it now has the best anti-reflective coating found on any tablet!

Touch ID and ?Pay! 'nuff said!

    Faster WIFI!

Anybody who claims that this is not a great update must either be a Fandroid or they must be broke and can't afford one.

I have a slight inkling that Apple were hoping to bring out the 13" iPad last Thursday, but couldn't; hence the over-powered processor.

Really surprised by the sites saying Apple didn't nail it with the new iPads.

It was a major update, with nearly all aspects seeing major redesigns and improvements.

    Killer value for $500

Some people are complaining about the iPad Mini 3, which I can understand, since the only new thing on that is gold and touch ID.

However, I've always felt that last year's iPad Mini should never have been equal to the iPad Air in terms of specs. And I didn't like that it was $100 cheaper than the Air, so I'm glad that Apple changed their strategy this year.

Some people may have been disappointed by the iPad Mini 3 this year, but the iPad Air 2 is killer!

Yes; I'm pleased to see the Mini put in its place and the Air re-asserting its rightful place as the King.

Interesting. My iPad Air 2 is due to be delivered Oct 22-24, east coast here.

Are the shipping times already getting delayed due to demand?

    Either that, or it's personal.

You mean Apple saw Apple []’s name and decided to ship it to him early? ????

I must say, I enjoyed the keynote much more than the September one, and not just because I didn't have to endure freezing.

The iMac update was a fitting tribute to the 30th Anniversary of the Mac. I think that Phil offset Craig nicely. Craig did some very funny sketches. Phil is much more low-key, which works well as a tonic. Really, Steve Jobs is now split into three with those two plus Cook, although, sadly, Cook is much the weakest. I don't enjoy watching Cook on stage; he's simply not in his element and I don't think he ever will be, as we would have seen it by now.

The weakest point of the keynote was the first iPad demo—a stilted presenter and so silly to have someone standing up crouching over the iPad using it in a way in which it is never used in real life. The second iPad demo was better; I liked the French dude. Note to Apple: Jobs sat on a sofa for the original iPad demo.

The highlight was the iMac reveal. The iPad reveal gets a commendation.

Won't you miss the GPS tagging of photos now that you didn't get the cellular version? Or are you wise enough to not take photos with an iPad to begin with - that would be what I expect.

Why would anybody want or need to tag their photos with GPS info? Seriously, does anybody have a legitimate real-world use for this feature?

It means that you can see all the photos from different places sorted together on a map, and then click on them. It's a handy feature.

I once took a course in photography. Learned zilch but did have a great time with the students and the teacher. Especially when people asked where this was taken:

Guess you had pretty ignorant peers. ????

The guy who said the iPad mini is like Cinderella and Apple is the evil step mother hit the nail on the head. They shouldve just discontinued the rMini one and dropped the price to $299. Its sill rocking an A7? Im like WTF?

With that being said my order delivers 22-24 of next week.

Bad post, but glad to see you filling Apple's coffers.

No one could say with a straight face they are pro-Apple. Pro click bait, not pro Apple.

I'm pro-Apple; said with a straight face. Not in possession of a bendy iPhone 6 Plus.

I hope people dont think i'm a Panzi for having a gold iPad lol.

That's fine to go for a gaudy colour.

Apple is celebrating diversity by giving you the option of tasteful or tacky colours, which is a novelty for them, at least in recent times.

Ipads should not have variance, and $100 for screen change like iphones and MacBook Air, now the IPad mini 3 is a joke update, but hey at least the old ipads are $300, $250-this price will be good comparison.

    Says who?

Do you expect the MacBookAir to be the same as MacBookPro?
Do you expect a BMW 325 to be the same as BMW 750?

The iPadAir is the top end product.
    iPadMini is midrange.
    End of Story.

It makes no sense to charge $100 less for the EXACT SAME HARDWARE except its smaller.  Making smaller components can be MORE EXPENSIVE.  Only way the iPadMini can have the same hardware is if its the same price. End of story.

    Indeed.

    End of story.

I was just doing some computing... If I wanted the new 5K iMac, a new iPad with 64G of storage, and the iPhone 6+ with 64G of storage, I could get the whole shebang for $3400. That's only $400 more then I paid for my 128K Mac and the dot matrix Apple printer.

The thought makes me dizzy to contemplate...

Just spec out a Mac Pro and you'll be right as rain. ????

I agree. I know Apple wants to expand the lineup and hit more price points, but there comes a point where you dilute the product and cause confusion. Not a fan of the way they setup the iPad mini lineup. The A5 chip is ancient, 3 gens old now, I don't think they should have kept that to sell for another year. At the LEAST they should have thrown in an A6 chip if they want to keep that model/pricepoint, and get it in line with a 5C. I have less of a problem with them keeping the A7 model, not that it really needs to exist. I feel bad for the ignorant people that want to save $50, and get the mini1, when $50 more gets them something SO much better.

Yep; the iPad mini lineup is too cluttered. I really don't think they need to keep so many lines open; it smacks of desperation and is likely to cause confusion for the average punter.

So basically Cook's way of hitting lower price points is to keep around products that are way past their sell by date. Let's not forget earlier this year Apple was still selling the iPhone 4 (!) in places like India. I suspect the original mini will be gone within 6 months tops. Then the only product left with A5 is the iPod touch. Since iPods haven't been updated in a couple years either Apple is quietly killing them off or they've got something big planned with music that we'll find out about next year.

My fear is that some of these products are in the lineup for upsell purposes only. Keep the original mini around, price it at $249 so you can say for "only $50 more" you can get a much better product and at the same Cook can tout he's hitting every price point. And with the mini 3 it's "only $100 more" to get a much better product with the Air 2. Just like with memory. They know that a lot of people would jump at getting 32GB at 16GB prices so instead of doing that they give you 64GB at 32GB prices; another upsell tactic that keeps iPad ASPs higher.

I really hate it when Apple makes moves that seem to be driven by marketing and the bean counters in finance. Where is Jony Ive or Craig Federighi to step in and say this is ridiculous? This blog post below from Alan Pike (via Gruber's website) show the frustration developers have with this. Where's the contrarian voice inside Apple?

    http://www.allenpike.com/2014/the-ipad-zombie/

Apple designed the 5C for the express purpose of being the entry level iPhone. Why not do something similar with iPad? Perhaps then Apple wouldn't need to keep around the original mini. The 2nd gen iPad in colorful 5C like cases could be the entry level iPad. And then you wouldn't need 5 different models to hit every price point.

Apple knows what is selling in huge numbers and will dump what isn't... you just have to keep that in mind. In our collective ignorance, it's easy to say that certain moves are not smart, but it will look that way to those who are not clued in...

Honestly these look like marketing and finance moves. I've read that Schiller is a big fan of the "for only xxx more" upsell marketing tactic. And then you have finance whose goal I'm sure is keeping margins and ASPs high. And finally you have Cook wanting to be able to show investors that Apple is hitting all these different price points. But the end result is a very cluttered lineup.

We can only hope that the 1st gen iPad still being around is just clearing out inventory and that by next spring the 1st gen is gone and 3rd gen gets a update (or the 2nd gen goes away and 3rd gen drops in price $100). If Cook thinks Touch ID is worth $100 he needs his head examined.

    Huh?

What do you expect?  Did you expect the iPhone 5C to have the A7?  Hell no.  Only the flagship devices get the very best.  Last years iPad lineup was an anamoly.  The Air is the flagship the mini is the midrange product.

Its like expecting a BMW 335 to have all the features a BMW 750 has.  No. No. No.

If you want the top end specs you need to buy the flagship.  The iPad was ALWAYS the 2nd level device except for last year.  If you want the best go buy an Air.

Actually it would be like the iPhone 6 getting an A7 and the 6+ getting the A8. So now screen size denotes "luxury" and not preference? So for the iPhone S models next year we can expect the same A8 processor for the 6 and the 6+ will get the A9?

I have no idea why you are trying to compare a macbook vs macbook pro, so lets take a look at macbook airs and compare them amongst themselves and not other product categories.

11' 128GB vs the 13" 128GB model, the only difference is the screen size and $100, the same for the 11" and 13" 256gb models.

I actually picked up a 64gb silver air 2 and then instead of getting the mini 3 64gb, i picked up the 32gb mini 2 refurb for 299. Apple lost $200 in the name of "luxury" as you put it.
