The reason I don't like the smartcase is twofold: I don't like the colour clashing with the iPad round the edges, and I don't like the case flapping around when folded back. So I go for the Smart Cover instead. The red one is nice.

    Says who?

Do you expect the MacBookAir to be the same as MacBookPro?
Do you expect a BMW 325 to be the same as BMW 750?

The iPadAir is the top end product.
    iPadMini is midrange.
    End of Story.

It makes no sense to charge $100 less for the EXACT SAME HARDWARE except its smaller.  Making smaller components can be MORE EXPENSIVE.  Only way the iPadMini can have the same hardware is if its the same price. End of story.

How come the 6 and 6 Plus both contain A8 chip? Based on your logic the 6 Plus should have a superior SOC. The mini 3 as its being sold right now is for suckers. Right now Apple is selling products with 4 different chips - those are products that developers need to support. I'm sorry but that's absurd. Especially when Apple makes digs at Google for Android fragmentation.

If the mini 3 doesn't get updated with A8 chip next spring (and 1st gen mini goes away) then Cook really has lost the plot and Apple no longer stands for simplicity. It stands for confusion and fragmentation.

    Thanks.

Not sure why you're surprised, though, as wittiness is a defining feature of my posts.

You mean air of superiority. I guess you were born with that too. ;)

Thanks! This is my first iPad  ( although bought an iPad 3 for my mum when they came out ) and I haven't even seen the smart cases or covers so not sure what to expect, I was thinking the blue or red, wife pushed for red....  If we don't like the way the cover works I'll fleabay it and get something else. :-)

I retain that, too, when it's appropriate.

Wow! Your first iPad! Prepare to be surprised and delighted!

You may love the smart case. I just love the cover because it's small, light and very easy to put on and take off.

Re iPad: you can fling it around on soft surfaces, of course, but be careful when putting it on hard ground in a bag or case. It's easy to jolt it doing that. It might be worth getting a bag with good padding if you carry it around a lot. Of course, your smart case will protect it, too.

I wonder when they'll be available in stores? I'd like to pick up a 64gb space gray cellular iPad Air 2 (upgrading from my Air) from my local Apple Store when they release. It's much easier for me to stop by there after work instead of trying to get a package.

I'm thinking Thursday or so going by the estimated shipping dates...

I can also re-use my Smart Cover (glad I didn't pick up the iPad Air case) or I wouldn't be able to re-use it.

I have a strong feeling that details and performance of the A8X is going to stun the mobile and tech world.

3 billion transistors.  One blog site even speculated that this could be a quad-core CPU design.  Although I doubt Apple would launch a quad-core CPU without mentioning it during launch but then I have to admit it is difficult to explain the extra 1 billion transistors versus A8.

Many owners of iPad 2,3 and 4 would have been happy to upgrade to iPad Air 2 with just an A8 chip but Apple obviously wanted to push the Ipad Air form factor forward. It was no coincidence that Pixalmator and Replay developer were invited to do the demonstration. iPad Air is clearly intended for more than just the casual user.

Yes, that hasn't been confirmed 100% yet, but I do believe that it most likely has 2 GB of RAM, based on those leaks and pictures of the chips that we have seen.

We will know for sure soon enough.

I hope so, I still ordered one of the new ones but I wanted to buy 2, holding out to see if their is indeed 2GB before I bother with the other  one. The reason why I'm buying so many is because I'm tired of waiting for Apple to allow multiple apps running in the background. I really need to run three music creation apps at the same time, so much so that I am willing to buy multiple iPad's to do it, I got the idea from Will.i AM's studio, he had to do the same thing to get around this limitation.

I don't consider people trashing others for their choices particularly witty or interesting. It would be interesting if people didn't trash another person based on them buying what they like.

    I totally agree with you.

I wasn't supporting his trashing of anybody. I just found that individual response funny.

I didn't mean to offend anyone who was already in the process of either being offended, offending somebody, or considering being offensive to somebody who had not been offended.

Just tell me how much RAM the damn thing has so I know whether I'm going to buy it or not. Why is it so damn difficult for Apple to do. Why can't they own what the put inside their devices?

I don't understand it either, very frustrating indeed. People around here say it's because Apple doesn't want to focus on specs but they do with certain items. Who knows, what I do know is that I want at least 2GB of RAM in my next iPad, especially for the price.

No one could say with a straight face they are pro-Apple. Pro click bait, not pro Apple.

    That's a good point.

    Congrats!

Hope you enjoy it (and can tolerate the loss of the mute button). I'll be interested to know how you get on with the speed, and whether you've torn your hair out from turning the volume up and down all the time.

I will probably get the same model but 128.
You do know that when you hold the Volume Down button just a little bit longer that it mutes the iPad?
Same for going up in volume. Just hold it a little bit longer and it goes to max volume.
Is this too much of an effort for you, my little Benjamin?
