why would there be? the tried and true app dev model is "iOS first, Android later if ever". the data seems to suggest iOS users spend more and spend more often. and ad clicks are better on iOS than Android.
so why would a niche apple fan site waste its limited dev resources on a platform with few paying users?
I like the UI for the articles and the general layout, but the comments are still hopeless. Tiny font, no ability to write comments, reply or thumbs up. There's actually less functionality than the mobile version on Safari, never mind the desktop version.
I would happily pay for an AI app that gave at least the same funcionality as the mobile Safari version, and can't understand why the app is so handicapped as to be redundant. It seems to me that they are throwing money away.
Are you using the same app? I'm replying to you with the app right now.

This post for the Appleinsider folks. The new version of the iPhone app used a light font for some stories which is not very readable especially by color blind people. When I go to the Comments section I see the story in the old readable font. Please fix this problem so we can enjoy the first time we read the article. Thank you.

I think that something like a $2.99 initial price for no ads ever would get people to use it far more on mobile. That'd offer cost benefit to just going through Safari.
Bingo. Yeah, I'd do this, but no way ever would I opt for a subscription. Actually, I don't subscribe to anything online, ever, but I would consider supporting this site by buying an ads-free app like this. Oh, and it can't have spyware (phoning home / tracking crap) either. Simple app, basic features, more convenient for reading mobile, without all the crap. Sure, that's worth a couple/few bucks.

Really? Cheapskate much? Why do people whore out their eyes so freely?
Kudos on the clean new look for your updated 2.0 app.
For my older eyes, wish that in addition to articles having larger size text, headlines/article listings on "Latest News" section, etc., could be a larger/bolder font.
Also, app appeared a bit buggy in that it's right now only showing three posts/articles under Latest News when I know there are many more from viewing in Safari.
Still find the web browser experience on the computer my favorite but am happy that you're working to improve the mobile experience.
Sorry I got confused reading briefly a few posts on a topic of little interest. My bad
BUT I'd pay a subscription to AI happily to be ad free on the main site. I use AdBlock but I know AI has to earn $ somehow so I feel bad about that. It might also reduce trolls if it were a: Membership site for posting / guests for free can't post ... type thing. MacRumors has a minimum 100 post requirement for anything remotely sensitive which is also a good approach. Obviously die hard troll and our famous Google advocate would pay but it might reduce some of the idiocy. CNN and the BBC now have few posts after articles so there is a backlash against trolls afoot.
To be honest, I never use the iPad or iPhone for such things as reading AI, I use my MBP as a mobile around the home or traveling (needing to off load and review RAW images form my Canon cameras, an iPad would of little use) and my nMac Pro for work. My iPad is basically used for Netflix and YouTube and plane trips and my iPhone for phone calls, the rare few I ever make and notifications. Oh and Maps and Siri of course, especially when travelling. So I am not really in to iOS (whereas I am OS X up the gills) and don't have apps other than all the Apple ones. My wife, a Realtor, uses her iPad and iPhone a lot so I use mine just enough to help her, hence having Numbers, Pages etc.
When you activate Larger Dynamic Type, the text inside a range of apps in iOS 8 including Calendar, Contacts, Mail, Messages, Music, Notes and Settings, and even some third party apps, is converted to a larger, easier?to?read size. And you can choose bold text to make the text heavier across a range of built?in applications.
Invert Colors and Grayscale
If a higher contrast or a lack of color helps you better see what’s on your display, iOS lets you invert the colors or enable grayscale onscreen. Once you set your filter, the settings apply systemwide, even to video, so you get the same view no matter what you’re seeing.
The new style is nice but if I want to read comments I still have to scroll all the way through the article which I've just read! This is because the webversion of the article is loaded, I find this really cumbersome. Why not just load the comments at the bottom of the article from the AppleInsider database? How hard can that be to implement?
I agree! I get so tired of waiting for the whole article and photos to load just to read the comments.
And a subscription? Does that give me an ad-free version? If not, forget it!
So as someone who buys and uses Apple products but also uses other products can't ask for something to use on an android so I can keep up with Apple news that I enjoy? Gotcha. And you wonder why there is a stigma against Apple snobs.
I find the mobile web version easier to navigate than the app, plus no ads.
Still no landscape mode on iphone and tiny home screen fonts that are fixed in size, no way to increase them. Update is fine but you left out some of the basics.
Yet in the articles fonts are size adjustable, plus bold text is a choice. Tap the "Aa" in the lower right corner.
Comments
Somewhat to the discredit of the news site to cover its own app as if it were related news.

There's this thing called humor . . .
Are you using the same app? I'm replying to you with the app right now.
LOL, I was about to ask is there an ad free version?
Wait ... it is ad free? ... I should have read more.
I'd pay AI for a Mac version if they kept ads off (I use AdBlock now) and the resident Google troll.

It's not ad free- maybe in Florida- wake up.
On the iPad?

There is an option to make the font bolder.
Can you tell me where it is?
the new AI logo reminds me of the blackberry logo for some reason.

Was considering the subscription until I tapped on it and was shown the price in US $, as I live in the UK and work in £ this is absolutely useless.
Come on, this is just being sloppy!

Better to go back to the web site and use AdBlock's iOS web browser. AI probably just banned me ...
