Typically the iPhones/iPads come out 1 or 2 weeks after the announcement? Can we extrapolate what this date means for the ? Watch release timeline?

    Probably the same. ????

    Apple Watch Pre-Orders begin on the 12th, 16th or 23rd ...

Apple are bringing out a pocket oil lamp for the Apple Watch. It's all about fashion and setting trends.

You're almost there. It's the Apple iGenie, which solves all of your problems for only $notthatmuch.

Also, I want a refresh to the MacPro, but it'll have to wait a bit, I suppose.

It will not be a mass market item, more like a special addition.  It will use more gold then most people think.  I'm thinking close to 2 ounces.  That's about the same amount of gold as a rolex presidential.

I think they will sell about 2-3 million gold watches per year.  That's $30,000,000,000 in revenue and $15,000,000,000 in operating profit.

If the price is too cheap like $2500 it will be too common.  They want it to be a halo product and be rare.

I think you're right. I still find it a bit ridiculous, though. To me it feels like Gold Mercedes and Gold iPad and Gold Lamborghini: http://www.carscoops.com/2015/01/gold-plated-lamborghini-aventador-is-1.html

Elegance is understatement, and gold is not understatement, now, is it? I wonder which one Sir Ive will use ^^

The invitation simply states "Spring forward", a reference to daylight savings time which ends on Feb 8th.

This event will be about the ? Watch.

Let's just hope it's not only about the fugly and underwhelming AWatch - instead, let it be about a revamped nMP as well.

Pretty sure we won't see the Mac Pro till WWDC.

"The term “spring forward – fall back” is meant to trigger your memory to set your clocks forward one hour in the spring at the start of DST, and one hour back in the fall when DST ends."

I think it's just the watch. Perhaps launching on first day of DST.

Maybe it's about Spring? Apple iSpring, a revolutionary new season!

I'm gonna take the morning off work to watch (!).

Pretty sure Apple would like to say "Apple Watch now available for order; see them in stores tomorrow." But a 3/9/15 date of the event probably precludes this. Our rumor mill would be seeing evidence of shipments by now. All we see is sketchy videos of vans with some strange sensor rack.

Edition Apple Watches are gonna have some security involved.

Lotta Apple Watch info has to be coming. Almost for sure they will show us all the new capabilities, combinations, functionality, demos. Then will come the ordering and how to get one. (I'm curious if you will be able to get custom engraving.) Then comes the pricing. And you can bet Apple will have a lot to say about that.

If they are gonna do anything other than Apple Watch, that will come first. "Here's some updates." Tim will probably tease some pics of Apple Watch displays in stores. Might all be under wraps (literally.) It is probably reading too much into the event name and release to speculate that it isn't clearly an Apple Watch event, some at least some refreshes in the line will make an appearance.

Yeah, I agree with that. My personal desires won't have any kind of impact on timespace or Apple's timeline anyway <img class=" src="http://forums-files.appleinsider.com/images/smilies//lol.gif" />

LOL I "predicted" there would be an event announcement a couple days ago. I should totally set up a company like DigiTimes so I can make shit up and be accidentally correct on occasion¡

    Predictions:

    [LIST]
[*] Start of with Cook saying how wonderful Apple is doing in sales and so forth.
[*] Success of ?Pay and hopefully what's coming down the pipes for other countries.
[*] Mention of those Dodge Carvans, which I'm sure they will say are for mapping (because they are in the most general term, no matter what specifics you want to apply to the rumour), even if they are also for self-driving cars at some far off future date.
[*] New MBA designs with Retina displays, and hopefully 12" and fanless. Not expecting them to be ARM, but I would love to see that.
[*] Mostly rehashing ?Watch features, but adding some new ones as well as more info about pricing. I'm hoping they mention how the devices will be updated, which I think would help 1st gen sales, but this is usually where Apple is foolishly (opinion) quite.

Guess you don't come to this site much. iOS 8.2 unlocks Apple Watch compatibility.

Just because 8.2 unlocks Apple Watch compatibility doesn't mean the feature set is fully developed. I can see where my post was poorly worded, when I wrote "if the iWatch requires IOS9 for functionality" what I mean was if there is some feature as yet unannounced that is specific to IOS9, then there may be an IOS9 tie-in.

Thank you for pointing out my lack of clarity.

Right now, there are 2 separate developer releases of iOS:
    • 8.2 beta 5 with Watch Kit
    • 8.3 beta 2 with Swift 1.2 (and other enhancements)

I suspect that these will be merged and released after the Apple Watch ships ... Likely, the Apple Watch will ship with some version of iOS 8.2.

Currently, all developers (except Apple and a few select 3rd parties) are limited to writing apps that run on the paired iPhone and use the Watch as an I/O display -- none of these apps are installed on the Watch.

Sometime, later, Apple has said that they will allow developers to write native Watch apps ... IDK whether this will be when iOS 8.2 and 8.3 are merged -- or if they will wait for iOS 9.

Well...DST is not exactly universal worldwide. And I think Mar 8.

Wordpress, Locomotive or SPIP are common blog engines.

iStockPhotos and ShutterStock are common stock photo providers.

Adobe will sell rent you a totally not overpriced suite for editing images and much more.

Rode will sell you awesome recording hardware, and SublimeVideo or Youtube/Vimeo will allow you to host vidcasts.

You're welcome, because I deserve thanks and accolades for making an unsubstantiated prediction based only on my desire for it to be true¡ (I hope it's obvious that I'm having a laugh at people that makes such statements as fact)

I'm a little confused by the "hype" comment. Apple has events to launch new products. I don't see anything out of the ordinary here.

My prediction is that critics have it all wrong and thanks to the Apple Watch very few people will be buying expensive Swiss watches this year, at least very few under the age of 65.

I agree.  The luxury watch industry has advanced for the last hundred years along several dimensions; style, materials, and the spectrum defined by the number of movements a watch has.  Not sure what the world's record is for the number of distinct movements in a mechanical watch, but I'd be surprised if it's more than a couple dozen.  Hours, minutes, seconds, stopwatch, phases of the moon, day of week, month, year, etc...  The smart watch, done well as a luxury item that meets the style and materials standards, which only the Apple Watch will, at least initially, shifts the 'movements' paradigm, bringing an unlimited number of movements that are not constrained to being associated merely with aspects of time.  Those offering only old-world capabilities will quickly find their customer base expecting more than what they deliver, in which case they'd better either partner up or find a new line of business.
