If this rewards program gives Apple product discount, it will be the most popular fucking reward program in history.
maybe the most popular in the U.S. i get free movie tickets and free concessions, 15% off all coffee shops, and anywhere from 10%-25% discounts at other places. and that is just one card.
C'mon Apple, here in the UK and in Europe generally we've had chip and pin readers for 10 years, but still no sign of Apple Pay (nor iTunes radio, wtf is up with that?).
chip and pin has been mainstay in Korea for just as long. all transportation including taxis have it. ridiculously convenient. the U.S. might create amazing tech, but they hold on to the old stuff too long.
I hope they can pick up the pace with the international rollout. Given that most of the terminals here are NFC capable I was expecting 4 months tops. Maybe they always intended to get the rewards program together first and the US rollout was more of a proof of concept.
Speaking of illegal, Google is making deals with US Carriers to accept only Android Pay on Android Phones and ignore Samsung Pay by pre-installing Android Pay on all their phones.
This was part of the deal for Google to bailout the carriers by buying ISIS/SoftCard from them. The anti-trust busters should take a look at that deal but they probably will not since lots of senators own Google stocks.
Why does Androids have to use the same word Pay? Are they so brain dead people that they can not think of a different word? According to Carly Fiorina only Chinese are not creative.
I know right. The word PAY is exclusively for Apple only. No one else has ever thought to use PAY before. Or you can look up the hundreds of other companies that have used PAY way before Apple thought about Apple Pay. Such as Quick Pay by Chase, or Safe Pay or Cool Pay. You know Apple Pay wasn't original by any means?
Who said anything about illegal action? They're crushing Samsung right now without doing anything illegal.
If Apple were to be doing it with the express intent of snuffing out the competition, rather than letting the market itself dictate a competitor's success or failure, then the courts could construe it as an attempt to gain a monopoly position in the market and considering the way the courts have investigated Apple lately that's something they don't need.

Quick Pay, Safe Pay or Cool Pay are used differently from Apple Pay. Android Pay is to be used the same as Apple Pay. From what I have heard, Android Pay is inferior to Apple Pay. So this constitutes cheating to consumers.
BTW, do you know Apple Inc was originally called Apple Computer? Apple was sued by Apple Corp. Apple lost and signed an agreement not engaging in music business.

The fans of imitators always say stuff like that. Hey: enjoy the flattery all the copyists bestow on the leader they imitate. Personally I'm glad they chose to brand their version just like Apple's. No need to be jealous.
I hope Apple spends all that's necessary to crush GoogPay. Madison Avenue and the retailers need to be taught a lesson.
And Anderoid is too insecure to serve as a payment platform anyway. People continue to realize it's a trainwreck.
yup, my coworker had Note 4 and loved it. He loved Android a lot but he said he never trust the device to handle his cc and financial information in there. That's pretty much the mindset of Android users...love it but never trust it. Btw, he didn't buy apps either lol.

You know these fucking political lobbyists in the States did that right? Look at Internet speed and cellphone services you will see.

Why are you even here? Don't you have anything better to do with your time?
As payments don't align as well with Google's business model(ads) as it does with Apple's(hardware) combined with Google's leadership never wanting to commit too many resources into a single project we can expect that Android Pay will be sold as an Apple Pay competitor, but in practice be trying to unseat PayPal instead. (I.e. Build a quick online base, then slowly roll out the hard yards of bank involvement if their service proves popular.)
All in all, I don't see any easy wins for Android Pay, but I do see a lot of opportunity for them to seriously mess this up for themselves. (read: security.) After all Google Wallet was hacked numerous times on fully-patched devices. (Search: Google Wallet Hacked for a whole world of stories.)
Payments for goods and services that are not part of the Apple portfolio, align as good (or as bad) with the Google business model as with the Apple business model.
As long as there is no Apple Pay on Android, there is no competition between Apple Pay and Android Pay. Android users don't have an extra iPhone in their pockets to make payments.
I cannot think of any reason that a merchant/bank would accept Apple Pay, but would refuse Android Pay. It would only upset their customers with Android phones. So yes there are plenty of easy wins for Android Pay, just go after the merchants/banks who already accept Apple Pay.
Who gains when consumers use a payment system?

merchants get sales they might not have gotten for cash
merchants get convenience
consumers get convenience
consumers get recourse for disputed transactions
consumers potentially get 1 month free float on their purchases
processors get transaction fees
banks get a percent of the sale
With Apple Pay everyone benefits from the security and privacy.
But, the big potential benefit [the elephant] is to the banks -- the consumer who buys on credit and does not pay off the last monthly balance.
In effect, the bank has issued a loan to the consumer for the unpaid balance > 1 month.
The last I looked, in the US, the interest rate for these loans was ~ 19% APR.
So, all the rewards gained by using a cc (bank) can easily be recouped by the bank if the consumer doesn't pay the balance due.
That's the way the system works in the US.
Therefore, in the US, the banks could incentivize the use of Apple Pay, Google Wallet, Samsung Pay, PayPalPay ... whateverPay -- by offering rewards.
Apple Pay has an advantage because of secutity and privacy (less cost to the banks to process refinds, etc.).
If Apple were smart (and they are) they would work with the banks to provide rewards for using Apple Pay ...
Something like: The bank offers $349 [odd number?] reward for the first $349 charged using Apple Pay.
Why does Androids have to use the same word Pay? Are they so brain dead people that they can not think of a different word? According to Carly Fiorina only Chinese are not creative.
Why did Apple decide to use CarPlay, similar to GooglePlay? Who knows why names are chosen. Committee?

I agree with you that Google will have a tougher time with Android Pay (not anything like Google Wallet BTW according to reports) since they don't control the entire thing from top to bottom. They've gotta be extra careful. Can they be?
maybe the most popular in the U.S. i get free movie tickets and free concessions, 15% off all coffee shops, and anywhere from 10%-25% discounts at other places. and that is just one card.
But if you use that card as your preferred ApplePay card, do you still get those perks? And the Apple rewards? Why would that not be your new preferred payment?
On the topic of Apple Pay rewards, it will be interesting to see how that will be calculated, as Apple has claimed that they do not know what the customer has purchased or for how much. The banks and credit networks have this information. Will rewards just be based on frequency of Apple Pay use, regardless of amount?

Remember Apple penalized for tens of millions dollars for using the name iPad which was used by a Chinese company over ten years ago?
Sorry, but I don't think it counts as "creative" if you take the name of what was then Apple's most popular product, and change one letter.
If this rewards program gives Apple product discount, it will be the most popular fucking reward program in history.

I'm waiting for PayPal to introduce PayPalPay.
Give them a little more credit. They'll call it PalPay!

As I stated my position in the other post, as long as CarPlay is used in different situation from GooglePlay there is no cheating to consumers/users.
