How much do those phones cost? Plus those phones are made by manufacturers that don't have a vested interest in the app market on the device.

Look at the entire MS/Nokia Lumia lineup - all you get is 4/8/16 GB phones (and one 32 GB model). Regardless of how much these phones cost, do you think MS has no vested interest in their own app market? Look at the Samsung Galaxy S series - again, 16/32/64 GB versions, only the new S6 has changed the strategy and starts at 32 GB. The same with Galaxy Note - 16/32/64 GB. Need more examples and/or do you still think Apple is doing anything wrong in this matter?

Personally, I only have 16 GB devices (except for my iPad Air, which is 32 GB) and I have never felt any storage limitations. My photos and videos are all in iCloud, my music on my two iPods and I don't need 350 apps installed on my iPhones. But again, if you need more, you have the option, not sure why does anybody expect Apple (or any other company for that matter) to provide extra storage at no cost.

Except for the current SGS series all those other phones have SD card capabilities which allows the user to inexpensively expand the phone's memory.

He's alright. Now that Thunderbolt 3 and USB type C has married they need to come up with a daisy chain standard as a requirement/ recommendation on all peripherals. Then it's all gonna be fine. Like, every C/ Thunderbolt3 cable could at least be a Y cable with two male connectors and one female for daisy chaining. With this in place it wouldn't make sense with many ports on the computers anymore, unless for heavy UHD video streaming or other extreme bandwidth utilities.

I think Phil's response made perfect sense and that's simply the way things are, I don't understand why people don't like what he said. Is 16 GB not enough for you? Go ahead and buy the more expensive version, problem solved.

Those 8GB/4GB devices tend to be budget devices and aimed at entry-level users who aren't expecting to use many apps. Go on r/Android for example and you'll see people equally miffed when flagships come with 16GB. And Apple's devices are all flagships or the previous years' flagships.

Ré 'thinness and battery life', I'm more than pleased with the iPhone 6 in hand. That I get ~ 91% recharge from 7% in half an hour, more than compensates for a larger/thicker phone.

And you can store all apps data to the SD card, right? And even for those apps that support this, it runs perfectly smoothly from the SD card, right? Maybe this is the reason why even Samsung is now removing the external storage.

    Eh.

    The storage argument is weak.

Say  you are going on a trip out to the country to visit relatives. All your pictures and music is on iCloud.

On you way and when you get there, your phone reception is crap and as you are way out in the sticks, no Wi-Fi at the house.

A lot of good iCloud is.

And then not to mention that Apple rips you off in cost and storage space.

Google blows Apple out of the water here.

What that 180 billion in the bank doing?

And where in the hell is Apple TV.

Sorry, have not had my Wheaties yet this morning.

The iPad Air 2 has 2GB and was released in October, 2014, after the iPhone 6, 6 Plus, but during the same year that there would have been supply constraints. This makes sense as the quantities of the iPad were considerably less than those of the iPhone, (which looks to be pushing 225 M units this cycle. That's a huge quantity requirement to merely double the memory in its product line.

If would be very surprised if Apple doesn't increase the memory to 2 GB in all of its current products with the next iPad, iPhone updates (not the entry level older stuff though).

The problem with cloud storage and streaming tech is that it negatively impacts those that buy the low end hardware due to economics. In many cases people end up spending far more than the cost of the flash upgrade in "cloud" charges and bandwidth costs. IPhones with small flash storage capabilities are not in the consumers best interest.

One can store all their media on the SD card, photos, music, ebooks, etc. Cloud storage isn't enough for many people, and those with tiered data plans can't stream music all the time.

There are many wireless personal cloud devices available that are a suitable replacement, and there are even many storage/power hybrid cases as well.

I'm not seeing any of this as any major issue. People by now would have a good idea of what there needs are prior to purchase and based on their data plan.

What people think they need changes. What's good enough now doesn’t necessarily mean it's good in a year. With more and more people buying their devices outright the upgrade cycle is going to get longer. Why is this the only spec that isn't improved on?

It's one thing to stand up for your company, but it's another to do so by trying to cleverly insult the intelligence of your customers. Concerning the 16GB iPhone, everyone knows that apps take up most of a devices storage and they do not live in the cloud (once downloaded) but on your device. Also, we also know that as a result of technology advances the price of storage components decrease each year. This is why Apple dropped the 32 GB model. The 32 GB model could have easily replaced the 16 GB but that would have slightly decreased the already incredible profit margins for the company. He should have just said "the 16 GB model is our most popular model with customers" and left it at that.

One port for macbook because they want clients to change behaviour and adopt the internet way of using cloud based solutions.

Well that is not what they are doing on their side. Their cloud solution is way behind their competitor's like Google and Microsoft. I think they realized they were underinvested in the cloud business .and they are trying to catch up. They are at least 4-5 years behind. Google will have an edge over them. The only thing stopping google from being great is their ugly interface. But hey, no one has it all.

So disingenuous about the size of the storage on phones... They do it so they can get the extra money from the upgrade.

(Yes i have a 128GB ipad Air... I "suckered" myself into that 300 dollar upgrade... 100$ to 32, 100$ to 64, 100$ to 128... Of course now it is now 100$ cheaper to get that memory size on the ipad2...

BUT they still have the 16 GB version...
It should be a minimum of 32 GB or 64GB...
I think that the SURFACE 3 from microsoft has 64GB standard...

Apple wants you to buy many many apps, but with the low-end model being 16 GB what good is that for you?
can't even install the operating system properly... it's all about the gross profit (pun intended).

So Apple doesn't have road maps for future products and features? Split view multitasking isn't something Apple just dreamt up in the last 6 months. I believe Schiller said they've been working on it for several years. There's no way it wasn't in the pipeline in 2013.

Why is it the most popular? Because people want it or because it's the one Apple produces most?

Of course they have internal road maps. But we'll never hear about it until after the fact.

Gruber should have asked Schiller about the music app. :wow: There's got to be a better way Apple.
