    You Young 'uns ...

In my day, the premier singer, songwriter, lyricist was Johnny Mercer.

And here is a perfect example of the benefit of Apple Music (and admittedly other streaming music services):

I'm familiar with Johnny's name but not his music. So I say into my Apple Watch, "Hey Siri, play songs by Johnny Mercer," and presto!... an automatic introduction to a full catalog of music I don't own, didn't know, but now can appreciate.

    Thanks, Dick.

She's sold 170M+ album and singles in 9 years, so I'm guessing it is not just 13 years old buying them.... She's filled the staple center in LA 17 times in a row (a record), that's a lot (350K) of paying fans in a few weeks. Even though her concerts do skew young and female (tweens, teens, young adults and their mother); those that buy her music though are a much more varied bunch.

Only Rihanna's in the same league as her in that period. Rihanna has sold 190M records in the 10 years since she's started her career.

#3 during that period is Katy Perry (90M), 100M records away from Rihanna and 80M away from Swift.

And yet I still have no idea who she is nor would I be able to recognise any of her songs.

However I like that she publicly told Apple off and put the Tim Cook and Phil Schiller in their place. That was funny to watch.

I hope Apple limits the number of on stage demos at this event. Nothing more boring than seeing a bunch of lame game demos from 3rd party developers. Cook's Apple has been pretty good about limiting those but the rumors all point to games being a the big focus of the new ?TV so I think we might get that. But maybe it won't be as bad as too much Eddy on stage.

There's a good chance they'll show off some serious games to try to position the AppleTV as a semi-console. With all the work put into Metal and SceneKit over the past 2 years, and now with an A8 (maybe A9) running at full power, possibly with additional GPU help, you could see some pretty impressive capabilities on display.

Showing off the car now would be a very un-Apple thing to do, but that doesn't mean they wouldn't do it just to keep people on their toes. There's no way it's production-ready, considering all the accelerated hiring they've been doing recently, but... it really would be fun for Apple to get some credit for it's R&D way before the product is ready for primetime. Something to the effect of -- "our one last thing isn't a product, but a reminder of constant innovation happening behind the walls of Apple HQ every day. Here's a quick glimpse into the things we're working on..." and then a tightly controlled video montage showing a crazy array of possibly future products, all while not giving any details away... ending with a flash of a car with an Apple on the hood ornament.

I like some of Mercer's early songs like Goody, Goody, Skylark, Dreams, Accentuate the positive (though the preambule is way too long) but his later songs are often overwrought... Like Laura, days of wine... Ugh... Or insipid like Moon River or Charade (man I hate that song).

Give me Gershwin, and I'm happy; wonder how far he would have gone if he hadn't die from a brain tumor in 1937.

Must be staying away from the radio, youtube or any news site with any entertainement news then.

Actually, the only one that appears to be relaxed and I enjoy watching on stage is Craig. Phil is hectic in comparison. Tim spreads energy like a cold decaf. And I won't even mention the cringeworthy appearances of our former Beats friends on stage.

    Darn. I just did.

Could it be that Apple's usual haunts are all tied up so they are using this 7000 seater?

Looks like someone at Apple is having a private event afterwards.

The food and beverage minimum for a private party at this place is $2000.

Good find. But maybe they do this always after a keynote?

Maybe its not Taylor Swift at all...maybe one of the big announcements is that The BEATES are finally coming to Apple Music, some sort of one month exclusive deal and Paul McCartney is going to play a few songs to close out the event!

Maybe. The website says the private dining room holds around 20 people so it must be a small team inside Apple that reserved it.

It's a party for an eccentric millionaire and their 19 cats.

A Beatles streaming exclusive, plus maybe a more contemporary artist doing exclusive, then a concert by them in front of bay area Apple employees would require a large venue and truly be a high profile exposure of Apple music; the PR value would be huge and the competition would be in a bad way... The Beatles have sold a crapload of records and keep selling them.

It seems to me the dead ones have slacked off a bit though....
