Bullshit. The whiny minority that actually post online claim that. It's asinine to think the few who complain are representative of the entire iOS user base.
The fact 16GB models have, and still continue to sell, shows that consumers are happy with them. With a large chunk of the iPhone user base being those who upgraded from previous iPhones, if there was a problem with many of them running out of storage, then we should see a sharp decline of 16GB models and a sharp rise of 64GB models.
it's because most iOS users are avarage joe's who are ok with stock apps + 12GB space for camera functions and media.
The storage is an absolute joke at this point. And it's not 16GB, it's 12 if you're lucky. Somehow Apple can sell a TV unit for $149 with 32GB but can't sell an iPhone with that much for $649.
Would be quite a scandal...
...if this wasn't how every computing device sold in decades has operated. No one subtracts out the space used by the OS and installed apps.
I completely get a reasoned argument. 64gb was the high-end at some point (at a $200 premium), then "trickled down " to become the mid-range. So on the face of it, it seems perfectly logical to expect the formerly-high-end-then-midrange 32gb to "trickle down" to the low end.
But as a shareholder, I trust Apple to know what they are doing here. I don't actually know, but I would guess that market research and chip availability have all conspired to maintain the status quo; that there's more downside for Apple to move to 32 than staying where they are... for now. At some point, that balance will surely tip, but we're not there yet.
What Apple is doing is pretty simple: increasing average selling price. Phil Schiller can say you get 4x the storage for only $100 more and once enough people bite and Apple is quite confident they won't ever go back down then they might think about increasing storage at the low end. But I wouldn't be surprised if they never did. Apparently Cook and Schiller think $649 for a phone is cheap.
Why has Apple doubled the value of iCloud storage, but decreased the value of iPhone storage?
ie the principle, not the $$
Why? The relative strength of the respective offerings.
With iPhone, this current pricing regimen has show no sign of hurting sales. Indeed, units up by more than a third during the same time this pattern was launched. They know they will make more profit, so why not? That's called pricing power, and is one of the core attributes which demonstrates Apple's wide moat.
iCloud, on the other hand, is so far kind of meh. Most people aren't going to pony up a bunch more cash for it....though if they get more for the same money, they can appreciate that.
So why not just leave it at 16, 32, 64GB if profit margins are so important? Before the 64GB model was $200 more than the 16GB, now it's only $100. They lost $100 for every user that stayed with 64GB.
Because Schiller isn't an idiot. This is all about the upsell. He can say you get 4x the storage for only $100 more. It's all about getting more people into the $299/$749 price point. Obviously the pcentage of the install base still rocking 16GB is very high so until Schiller can get them to spend $100 more that 16GB isn't going anywhere.
At least you're admitting it's a blatant money grab.
Yes, it's a blatant money grab. Also happens to be completely transparent. And it's successful...that's what counts! A commercial transaction between to willing parties. And do keep in mind they're free to take their money to some Android OEM who would love to give them a phone will a hole in the side to put some third-party memory card.
I suspect you're voting for Bernie Sanders of the socialist party. Damn corporations, trying to enhance profits! Oh, the shame!
the post I was responding to was complaining about file size and installs. The post you're referring to is about the principle of having an entry level model. non sequitur.
your complaint about install size has been defeated.
silly NoLamACGuy, *you* asked "what else ya got?"
I'm just saying Walmart has 16 GB for $4.97
this is also why I still use my 5s, and don't see an upgrade worth making.

Those same people would've gotten the 32GB for $100, and now you also have the people getting the same 64GB they've always gotten for $100 less, or getting the 64GB plus for the same price.

why not work your way onto the board, or upper management, and present your well researched ideas on why that should be the case? because I know for certain they've researched and discussed why it should be this way.
you being ignorant to why that is means little.
You would've said the same thing had they stayed 16/32/64, and me or someone else had suggested that the should've gone 16/64/128.
Apparently Cook and Schiller think $649 for a phone is cheap.
They're not the only ones.
Accounting for inflation, the original iPhone would set you back about $920, were it sold as new today. Conversely, the 6S ($650) would have been $565 back in 2007.
Relative to the value of the US dollar, iPhones HAVE gotten cheaper.
About Live Photos, does the video look better with 6S Plus than 6S if the target is moving?
It is better if the video starts three seconds before the photo is taken than the photo is mid point between the video.
In most real situations, you press the button when you see an interesting motion or sound. You can not predict the motion and sound 1.5 seconds after is interesting.
I think Apple engineers played a gimmick here. The phone may need to use more memory in the former case.
I would guess it would look better on the 6s Plus just because the Plus has the optical stabilizer.
When you enable Live Photo, the phone records 1.5 seconds before and 1.5 seconds after a photo is taken. In layman terms, it's basically shooting in burst mode and then combines the files into a .mov file for playback. I could be wrong, but I thought I read somewhere the phone is actually capturing 45 frames when you have Live Photo enabled.
Then they are in for a nasty surprise then, aren't they? Which in large part is the point. 16Gb is no longer sufficient for even minimal use and should no longer be the starting point. 32 GB is the starting point for the Samsung S6 and the same should be the case for the iPhone 6S. It would be fine if the storage was expandable via micro SD card.
My wife gets along fine with a 16 Gig iPhone 6 and really has no problems with it, no nasty surprises for her, she loves her iPhone too. I think Apple should make the base iPhone 32 Gig too but there are a lot of people out there that do just fine with 16, also a lot of business phones the companies don't want more than 16 on there phones and order them low on memory just to keep employees from putting a lot of extra garbage on them.

OIS would have no direct effect on a moving subject, OIS only affects movement of the camera. Only one thing affects motion and that is shutter speed.
That has to be dumbest thing I've ever heard. Not only is that not going to happen, analytics suggest iPhone 6 Plus is barely as popular as the iPhone 5c, and the iPhone 6 at its 4.7" size is what the overwhelming majority actually use.
Indeed. I'd rather have a phone that fits in a pocket and is light. My point of reference for "too big" is the 3DS, as that IS actually too heavy and large to put in a pocket, I couldn't believe they made a "XL" version. The 3DS is 8oz, the XL is almost 12. That's like carrying around a can of soda. The iPhone 6S is 5.04 oz and the 6S+ is 6.77. And the iPhone's battery life is much better than that of a 3DS.
The 3DS is fine when it's not in a pocket, but when you throw it in a pocket... it's thicker and larger than a wallet and heavier than a soda, so you really need a handbag. A smartphone should not require it's own handbag, it should fit into a breast or pants pocket and not feel like you're wearing a can.

It's saving the last 1.5 seconds before the actual frame at 1080p and 12.77 frames per second, IIRC. So yep, three seconds is about forty frames of video per image, saved as a separate .mov file.
I love the people that have to harp on 16 GB entry level model. Its the ENTRY LEVEL model. There are two more models, with lots more storage.
If you think 16 GB isn't enough...buy the other ones. Oh, you'd rather save a few bucks than get what you actually need? Not Apple's problem. Or anyone else's.
"No no no! Don't you understand? The Toyota Yaris is too small for me means so it's too small for everyone, and Toyota should stop making them. Also, Apple should stop making phones smaller than 5.5 inches because I personally think its the right size."

i completely agree.
16 GB as standard is ridiculous.
Imagine if the MacBook started at 60 GB..
Actually your pretty close, the original MacBook Air in its standard configuration started with a 64 Gig flash drive.

RED ALERT!
Raise the FRET LEVEL to: handwringing
Be more like Samsung! Bad Apple. Very bad Apple!
