Admit it. Most of you complainers wouldn't settle for 32GB. You would all buy more. This isn't about what YOU want to buy. Telling Apple what it should sell is about enjoying the smell of your own farts. Welcome to the fart party. Now. Deep breaths....
What does storage space have to do with quality? You're getting the exact same phone, with the same materials, same camera, SOC, screen, OS etc. you're just getting less storage. This isn't about quality this is about Apple getting people to spend $100 more, or thinking someone who spends $649 on a phone is somehow cheap.
Jumping in here without reading all of the comments yet... but I really need to ask why you think Apple would lower the price of the 32gb version?
What if they just dropped the 16gb and keep prices the same, would that be OK?
It is at this point the best smartphone on the planet at any storage capacity and well worth the legitimate premium, don't you agree?
My wife gets along fine with a 16 Gig iPhone 6 and really has no problems with it, no nasty surprises for her, she loves her iPhone too. I think Apple should make the base iPhone 32 Gig too but there are a lot of people out there that do just fine with 16, also a lot of business phones the companies don't want more than 16 on there phones and order them low on memory just to keep employees from putting a lot of extra garbage on them.
There are plenty of people who could get by on 8 GB, no doubt ,but people who can get by on so little could likely manage with a far cheaper and less capable phone. You don't need an A8 or 9 processor to do Facebook, Twitter and check a few emails and websites. I bet my daughter does more with her 32 GB iPhone 5 than all these people who get by fine with a 16 GB iP6/s
A 16 GB iP6s can only take 34 min of 4k video, and that is with nothing else on the phone - no apps, music, photos - nothing else. Realistically for a phone that is actually used, 15 min of 4k would probably be the limit, if that. Live photos, which is on by default, are going to gobble storage pretty ferociously compared to normal stills too.
That has to be dumbest thing I've ever heard. Not only is that not going to happen, analytics suggest iPhone 6 Plus is barely as popular as the iPhone 5c, and the iPhone 6 at its 4.7" size is what the overwhelming majority actually use.
Completely agree. As someone who owns a 6 Plus, I'm selling it to Gazelle and getting the new 4.7" model. While the Plus has plenty of screen real estate, it is cumbersome and barely fits in some pants pockets. And the new 6s Plus will be noticeably heavier even without a case.
Don't get all "small, medium, large, super-size, king-size" on us. I am not stuck on nomenclature, just the miserly level of storage Apple is continuing to offer at the first price point.
The phones are the same except for the storage capacity, and 16 GB of storage runs me $4.97 at Walmart. Joe Six-pack knows that.
I have 25+ 16 GB iPads at work, and they do work well. But, just like the Edu iMacs used to be, the 16 GB iOS devices should be the Business/Edu exception, not the standard size. Normal users dont like to have to delete their data just to clear enough space to install an iOS update...
My iPad mini 1 updated to iOS 9 with just 600mb free over wi-fi. You don't need space for updates now - the upgrade process removes then reinstalls apps as it needs. What I'd like apple to work on is how quickly the iPhone clears space - I can sync or delete stuff and it takes several hours for the space to register as free, also more apps to have "clear cache" option would be nice. Saying that, I rarely ran out of space on my 16GB iP5 - only when I took hundreds of photos/vids in a short space of time and didn't have connection to iCloud to upload; on holiday for example.

What is a legitimate premium? 32GB at $649 seems like a legitimate premium to me. 16GB for $649 is just a big middle finger to people. And for everyone that says a lot of people or businesses don't need more than that..ok then do teens who spend all their time on Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat need a desktop class SOC? Do they need a world class camera to post shit on Instagram? Perhaps Apple should make a bare bones phone for all these alleged people that don't do much on their phone and thus don't need much storage space. Let the flagship really be premium then.

Agreed. I don't get what makes the 16GB model a 'entry level' phone when the only difference is the memory. Every other entry level product Apple has is less powerful. The 5s should be considered entry level, not a 16GB 6s.

the 5s IS the entry level (entry to iPhone ecosystem, there are even cheaper options to iOS ecosystem), it's why it's still for sale. there is also the iPhone 6 16GB option below the 6s 16GB price point.

Against popular opinion, I've always said that the iPhone isn't expensive enough to match it's quality proposition against it's rivals. Fanboy and media rage be damned!
A free-market determines the price that a company sells their products for. If Apple at any time sees their sales in free-fall, I suspect that the very first correction will be to lower the price of "true flagship" 32gb iPhone version.
But again... *IF* they decide to keep the 16gb version, expect that also to drop to....? Make a bet $100 cheaper than the flagship?
I have so many clients with the 16gb version of both iPhones and iPads (big-small businesses, as well as the families of the owners/workers from age 3 - 89), that I can categorically say that taking the 16gb out of Apple's matrix completely, and leaving the 32gb at the same price... wouldn't change a whole lot other than the clients ponying up €100 more. In fact I doubt I would hear too many grumbles about the price at all. Disclaimer: this is in Germany where quality is held higher than cheap for many items like cars, machines... and smartphones after the colective failure of Android and Windows phones. Just the cost of doing business as they say where it's rare if I ever see anything other than an Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Porsche or VW in the parking lots or driveways.
With that said you might ask why they don't buy the 32gb in the first place? Answer: they don't need the capacity. Nice to have it... but it's rare that I see folks attempting to carry their entire music, video, or photo collections with them. Most just want there iPhones to be lean, mean and fast with the built in apps, and also vet their other Apps, which I've stated often enough here are the basics (Dropbox, WhatsApp, Facebook, GoodReader, FileBrowser)... in most cases less than 30 total.
In the end... I can see Apple dropping the 16gb completely and leaving the prices of the remaining capacities the same. That's only to protect themselves from unnecessary Genius bar visits and support calls (efficiency savings) from people that try to carry a winters worth of nuts in their iDevices like chipmunks.
For those like my clients, not a big deal in the end. They'll still be buying iPhones/iPads and installing only what they need.

I love the people that have to harp on 16 GB entry level model. Its the ENTRY LEVEL model. There are two more models, with lots more storage.
If you think 16 GB isn't enough...buy the other ones. Oh, you'd rather save a few bucks than get what you actually need? Not Apple's problem. Or anyone else's.
I can't afford a new BMW 3 or 5 series either. That's why I have 25 & 10 year old ones. Could I technically pay for a new 6s 128Gig? Sure, but it's sort of out of my budget currently. So I got a 64GB iPhone 5. It would be nice to be able to get the latest and greatest, but right now it's not an option. Am I upset about it? Will you catch me bitching about Apple making something that's out of my price range? Hell no. Will you catch me bitching about the company that makes some of the best products on earth making something that seems slightly irrational to me? You have to be kidding me.

So there's 3 'entry level' models now?
These numbers are incredible! Can't wait for mine to arrive on Friday.
I tried to upload those pictures yesterday. The new 6s is a beast!
