Kanye West changes his tune, releases a single track from new album on Apple Music

After vowing to never bring his latest creation, "The Life of Pablo," to Apple Music, Kanye West has released a single track from the hit album on streaming services, including Apple's own.

The track "Famous" from West's latest album can now be streamed from Apple Music, though it is not available to purchase on the iTunes Store. The track is also available to subscribers of Google Play Music, and can be heard by Spotify members as well.

"The Life of Pablo" debuted on streaming service Tidal last month, of which West is part owner. The outspoken rapper repeatedly said that the album will never come to Apple Music, remaining exclusive to Tidal.

That remains partially true --?"The Life of Pablo" can only be heard in its entirety via Tidal. But as of Monday, "Famous" is no longer a Tidal exclusive, as first noted by Pitchfork.

The release of "Famous" on Apple Music is an updated version of the song, as West has been tweaking his latest creation post-release. That prompted Tidal to extend some free trials to the service by 30 days, so users could hear the latest version of the album.

In attempting to compete with the likes of Apple Music and Spotify, Tidal has banked on exclusive releases from artists like West, Prince and Beyonce. The service costs $10 per month -- like Spotify or Apple Music -- but also offers a unique $20 tier with lossless audio. Another distinguishing aspect is that the service pays higher royalties than its competitors, making it more artist-friendly.

And now the quality of the Apple Music library has been diminished.

Stupid ass comments. He may constantly be acting out in the media, but TLOP is the best hip hop album of 2016 period.

The best orange colored album this year is by Joywave.  It even has the same "wide variation" in song styles that TLOP and other pop music does: https://open.spotify.com/album/1V2wNwIA0AZ9dne5B8nMV1

If it were the best, he wouldn't be so desperate. And he's desperate because he's a waste of space.

I guess Kanye wasn't making much money from his album on Tidal despite the publicity he created for it by ragging about Apple.  So obviously he has released it on iTunes without much word.

It is news, Apple is in the music business as in distributor of recorded music, Kanye love him or not is a big player in the music industry. If the article was about his wife then I would agree with you.

    Sounds like ass...   :-(

Does this mean Mark Zuckerberg didn't give him the $53 million he was begging for?

Maybe he should beg Taylor Swift instead.

Thanks for the heads-up.  I guess that means all the other hip-hop albums of 2016 sound even worse than ass...

It is not his change of heart. Stupid, it is economics that brings mighty ego down to the earth.

This is probably as good a time as I'll ever find for utterly shameless self-promotion:

He can say all the stuff about Apple he wants to say. He made a lot of noise, got the free media attention with his crazy rants (which were totally stupid but a good play for the publicity and exposure), and vowed that his music wouldn't be on iTunes. Not being on iTunes was a dumb move and didn't make good business sense hence the silent back track. He, the Kardashians and the Jenner dude are masters of using the media and their followers. I'm not condoning, just saying. I won't spend any money on his album but I'll damn sure take a free copy just to collect.
