Which parallel universe? Trump did not win the nationwide popular vote in this one.

This is another failure by Cook.

Instead of hedging his bets he went 100% with Clinton. Stupid, Stupid, Stupid move by Cook. He should have played both sides. Instead he went all in with Clinton and has egg on his face now.

This is what I absolutely DETEST about Cook. He allows his PERSONAL VALUES and POLITICAL VALUES to pollute the Apple brand. This election should have not had any effect on Apple. Yet the stock lost $60 billion in value the last week because of Cook spreading his political agenda.

The CEO of a multi-national corporation should be playing both sides. Another absolute failure by the fool Cook. He thinks he's running a charity and social non-profit.
Bezos went in worse.  Tim never made personal attacks against Trump, but Bezos said he'd like to shoot him into outer space, used his Washington ComPost as a main outlet for never ending personal attacks, etc.  Tim made it obvious who he backed as he contributed personally (a cool mil) to the Hill campaign and so on.  I personally don't feel CEOs should connect themselves so closely to candidates.  It can back fire too easily, which is the case here and elsewhere.
    Ahh, yes...

Those who voted Trump say they are sick of politicians who say they will do things to get elected, then fail to follow through. Now, they tell us not to wet the bed because Trump didn't mean the things he said literally. So much for consistency.
Not to mention he said he wanted to get rid of all the capital hill insiders and has just appointed half of them.  So much for 'draining the swamp'.  The dude is a joke.

I'd gladly pay a few hundred dollars more to buy an American made iPhone. We are too dependent on China for things we use daily. And fewer Chinese student at our universities? That's a reward, not a threat.
It's a fantasy to think the US Govt is going to force Apple to start manufacturing and furthermore locate its first and only factory in the USA.

Same kind of fantasy as, coal is coming back. Same fantasy as, Detroit factories that employ tens of thousands of people are coming back.

But I digress. As usual lol.

There is a growing trend around the world to have products sold in a country, made in that country.  China, India, Brazil are examples I know of off the top of my head.  Reciprocating (to a degree) makes sense.  All this means is IPhones etc. sold in America will be made in America.  Will this increase jobs?  Maybe...  But they will be jobs for robotics, and robotic maintenance/programming rather than unskilled assembly work.  If a robot can refurbish and IPhone a robot can certainly assemble one.

My concern is that Trump doesn't really understand what he's talking about (he's often incoherent) and will damage relationships and help no one.  I'd rather he start by insisting on IP enforcement (in which China has been lax).  It wouldn't really hurt China to do so, because going forward considerable IP will created in China, or owned by Chinese companies through acquisitions.  It makes sense to have a strong and binding agreement in place.

Trump would be a major idiot to have a trade war with China. It would be economic suicide for the world. It'd be like going to war with yourself. Not a playground to test out your hair-brained ideas hairdo.

Let's just hope it's bullshit he spouted—as he does—merely to fool Americans into electing him. I get that Americans didn't want Hilary, but boy that's little choice there. One big fat big liar and another little skinny big fat liar. Like Pepsi or Pepsi with extra sugar thrown in.
The thing is... the american people DID want Hilary... she won the popular vote over trump... the electoral system is just broken if you ask me...

I didn't vote for another entity to place their vote... I voted for the president... oh well...
Choosing a President by winning a popular vote contest was never the intention of the Founders, and for good reasons. I think some here would benefit from doing at least a tad bit of history study. We have so much emphasis on and power held by a two-party Democrat/Republican system now because of changes forced upon the Electoral College by Andrew Jackson supporters insistent on "democratic elections".  Hint: There's a reason that the two principal parties are named as they are.

That America is a republic instead of a true democracy is likely one major (if not THE major) reason that it still endures IMO.

The market tanked, after the Trump victory was announced -- then rebounded to record highs.

It appeared that the Money People saw potential in the proposed new tax policies.

    As I understand it:
    1. US business tax rates will be reduced from 35% to 15%
    2. there will be the ability to repatriate earnings now held overseas at 10%
    3. future taxes paid for foreign earnings will be deducted from the 15% tax

    1) affects both corporations and small businesses (where most US jobs are created).

    2) is the Tax Holiday that AAPL, FB, GOOG, AMZN, MSFT, et al have been lobbying for.

    3) is icing on the cake for multinational corporations

Unfortunately for you (and many other occupiers), you can't change the rules of the game while it's being played.  Founding father's implemented this to avoid mob rule and allow small states to have a voice.  Had Hill won the electoral and Trump the pop you would have been just fine with the electoral college.

The Congressional Budget Office has decades of statistics on the effectiveness of various types of economic stimulus, and corporate tax cuts are one of the least efficient per dollar (even lower than income tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans). That's because the vast majority of corporations will simply move that money into the profit column and call it a day. It's not spent back into the economy for more jobs, higher wages, or business infrastructure. It's just another giveaway to people that don't need it, which is (from what I've seen) supposedly NOT what the angry middle class voters for Trump wanted.

Yeah but AAPL has some semblance of support around 103.  If it falls through look out.  The others are in free fall mode.  AAPL p/e can be justified.  The others cannot.  In this kind of uncertain environment those high p/e stocks tend to get slammed and brought back down to earth.  People rotating money toward infrastructure and defense plays as well which is accounting for this.  I still say Cook, Apple, and the investors will come out on top here in the long term but imo Cook needs to start looking out for the investors in terms of a special divi or something along those lines.  The buy backs didn't cut it and the stock has moved sideways for 2 years basically.

    electoral system is not broken.

Doing a pure popular vote would give states with large populations too much power. Small states would be powerless and voiceless.
Yes, good thing we do NOT live in a democracy in the U.S., it is a Constitutional Republic!  Democracy is two wolves and a sheep deciding what's for dinner, i.e. mob rule, that is a foolish system!

To be honest I think the press was making up their own short lists, with an emphasis on imagination and controversy.

There must be an alt-right website someplace making this claim because I've seen postings on FB saying the same thing. But when I asked the person if they could share a link so we can all have the best available info they were unable (or unwilling) to produce one. To be fair, I've also seen postings claiming that Clinton was up by 1.6 million votes. Both claims are false (lies) as best as I can tell...probably from stories posted on line that are as much for click-bait as for political agendas.

News flash - don't believe everything you read online!

IMO you're buying into a myth propagated by the far left arm of some media outlets. I can't find any evidence whatsoever that Pence even referred to sexual persuasion as a choice, much less that it could be "cured" by hypnotherapy. Your statement of fact isn't. Pence hasn't even denied evolution exists AFAIK tho you wish to claim he did. Instead he believes God is involved (feel free to disprove it), not that evolution hasn't taken place since then. If you are so intolerant of those whose beliefs differ from yours fair enough, but don't invent reasons to attack those same people by making them appear somehow less worthy than you by using half truths or someone's imagination.

EDIT: Here's your quote upon which some press elements have built its intentionally misleading story that you've chosen to accept as the truth....
“This debate today is not about discrimination. I believe that if someone chooses another lifestyle than I have chosen, that is their right in a free society.”
As for Trump himself who is demonized as being an enemy of the LGBT community I've no idea where they (you?) get that from. Based on what?

    Link?

And what about SMBs -- where most are taxed at 30% and higher.  These are the largest job creators in the US.
