And, do start that thread on advice on what to buy for Macs. It'll probably be good, lengthy, and heated.
How do we know this, though? A lot of people complain about battery life, and the camera bump can't be seen as a good thing by anyone, as far as I can see. So, if given the choice between 1) an iPhone a bit thicker with more battery life and no camera bump, or 2) the current iPhone... You're saying most people would chose 2? I don't think I believe that.
re: thread - I need to get my thoughts together, and I'll have to do that.
I think thicker is the deal-breaker. Regardless of how long or short battery life is, people will complain. But, like I've said, I use the SE as my prime mover, so I don't care that much about it.
While I'm not saying you're going to hear anybody praise the camera bump, it is a nonissue if you're casing the phone.

80% of the smartphone market is Android OS.
Why isn't there a wide selection of devices a "bit thicker with more battery life and no camera bump"? Are Android OS users and iPhone users all that different tin tastes?
Consider that your belief is wrong; people, for the most part, don't care about either more battery life or the camera bump. They are happy as is.
I don't buy that percentage, but I suppose it's rather irrelevant to the debate. I guess I'll have to pay attention next time I'm at the store, but I don't think most Android phones I've ever seen are as thin as the iPhone 7.... maybe a few high-end Samsungs or other models. Heck, aren't there even Android flip-phones and such?
I suppose I could be wrong, but why do I constantly hear people complaining about battery life then? Maybe they don't understand the relationship between thickness and battery capacity, and that given the choice, they'd still pick thin. That I don't know.

I suppose you're right that once a case is added, the camera bump, or things like how slippery it is, is kind of irrelevant. I'm just not hearing people saying, 'gosh, I wish my phone was thinner' either. My wife's iPhone 7, even with a thin case on it, is almost uncomfortably thin to hold. I get small and light as possible with maximum screen, but not thin as a metric on it's own. Maybe I'm just odd.
