    No it doesn't.
depends.  IpX has a smaller physical screen than the iP8+, but a higher resolution.  So hmmm....
If Maury wanted to refer to the pixel count or pixel density he should've mentioned it, but I'm pretty sure his comment was only looking at the box form for the iPhone X on the diagonal when he mentioned real estate.

When using real estate to refer to a higher resolution display allowing smaller elements (which isn't how iOS works, at least not in that direction as far as I know, so I'll use the MBP for the example), one might make a point to say something like, "since moving to Retina displays the MBP allows for more effective real estate for those who want to make the display elements smaller."

History will record iPhone X as a breakthrough in consumer tech. It has changed the world forever. The notch alone is now a universal benefit, even for Android.
OK, I'll bite.  Why is the notch alone a universal benefit outside of being a marketing tool?  If Apple would have limited the cutouts around the FaceID module use to displaying time, signal strength, battery strength, etc. with a black background there would be no "notch" so FaceID can't be the underlying benefit.  What universal utility is gained solely by expanding the app display area to two small ears at the top of the screen?
Because it shortens the height of the phone and the phone is already on the tall side.  It allows quick orientation of the phone, otherwise it would be like the vertically symmetrical AppleTV remote which drives me crazy when I try to operate it upside down.
Just curious... Will FaceID recognize you if you hold it upside down?

Unlike millennials, my hands are often dirty working in the house and yard and I hated having to access TouchID.
That is a little condescending don't you think? I know many 'millenials' who get their hands dirty.

TouchID is perfect for many people especially those who have to wear protective headgear.
FaceID is not the solution for everyone.

My main objection, and something I didn't expect from Apple, is the buggy iOS. Crap, to be honest.
And though the build quality is fine, this doesn't feel like a $1000 gadget, holding it in your hsnd. It is something with the almost plastic feeling back (compared to some high end Androids and most previous iPhones).
But overall, best phone I have got.

Something may be wrong with your install of iOS 11. I've been running with it since it came out on my iPhone 6s, no problems at all (well, there was a bit of a battery drain issue with the initial release but that's long gone now). I have the latest public beta on my iPad, no troubles there either. I've been very pleased with the performance.
I have iOS 11 on my 6s and have found it to be incredibly buggy. 11.3.1 is finally gettign rid of most of the bugs, but 11 is by far the buggiest version of iOS they’ve put out in a long time. Given the amount of code they rewrote for it it’s not surprising, but as a consumer, I don’t care why it’s buggy, I just care that it impacts how I use my device.

I'm not against the notch, but it would seem to be neutral at best and even distracting under certain uses like watching a video.
As I’ve said before, the notch is actually saves space. Take my 6s - above the screen is the speaker grille and front camera with empty space on either side of them; a wasted black ‘forehead’ above the screen. The notch takes that wasted space and fills it with a battery indicator, clock, cellular bars, etc.-  All the miscellaneous icons that take the top ¼” of screen on my 6s. I think the problem is people think taht they are ‘loosing’ the space occupied by the notch rather than gaining the tabs on either side of the notch.

Good point, Soli. That density allowing smaller elements I find very useful in navigating magazines, such as in Readly app (and presumably Texture now or in future). With digital magazines if you have decent vision, you can race through pages much faster than with old paper mags when you call up the jumbo thumbnails (on 12.9 iPad Pro) in navigation bar. No more clutter too and easy to save what you want. I think Apple made a brilliant purchase with Texture and I hope they aggressively expand rights, domestically and internationally. I'd been a lapsed magazine reader, but I find in digital format it's usually better brain food per meal than much if not most Internet fare, and no distractions.

After using my X for more than half a year, I have mixed feelings. Cool and sleek, yes. Fine camera, yes. But I've lost data on trying to back up Music Memos to iCloud (Apple Store guy couldn't retrieve it either) and experienced irritating things that never happened with my 5s (like the "Settings" app disappearing even with latest public iOS 11, needing a restart to revive it). I don't regret getting it, but in terms of life productivity improvement I'm more of an enthusiast for the Watch and iPadPro and iMac. I'm hoping this Fall's release of phones will be flawless. The X is ahead of its time, maybe in more ways than one.

Max: Apple won't be using USB-C as the connector in iOS devices anytime soon, if ever. It's still physically larger than Lightning, and we all know Apple would never switch to something larger, taking up more precious internal space, that offers no real benefit. My 2016 MacBook has USB-C (as we wall know they do), and I truly hate plugging it in. It's cumbersome compared to plugging in a Lightning cable.
I could not agree more! Plugging in feels like you put something frail in, bound to fail in half a year. In fact, a small hair made my Macbook not charging anymore, and sending it in didn't help. Until a friend looked in the smallish hole and, with a piece of carton pried it out. Never had that with Lightning. Would love if Apple changed al the C-ports to Lightning. Will not happen though, but these USB-C ports, I don't know...

Face ID will be useless once we can edit our DNA. 20 years from now people will be using passwords or private keys again.

Considering the price I have to say I’m surprised it can be this successful (and seems like the press is too). Saw it almost everywhere. Have one & have to say I’m in love with the camera & all Portrait Lighting software. My wife is too because it enhance her normal portrait to be pretty good.

    LoL!

Anyway, I’d love to get an X one day. I’m usually about 3-5 yrs behind, so I’ve got another year or so on my 5s. Maybe upgrade to a 7 then... an X 3-5 from then? Can’t wait! Unless they do the SE-X, I’d love the X look on the 5s body. At the presumably lower cost I could probably spring for that sooner.

    This is a side comment.

From its release right up until this month's earnings announcement, analysts have said Apple will discontinue the iPhone X this year due to low sales. While the iPhone X itself might be replaced by new models and not continue for a second year, like the iPhone 7, ”

Apple just reported earnings! There are no low sales! Why keep reporting the false claims of analysts?

For the price, this should have been made from titanium and ceramic at the very least -- if Essential can do it for half the price, Apple could have done it at the premium it ended up charging for this thing. Face ID is not as reliable or as fast as Touch ID 2 was/is. The notch is poor design -- I love the idea of an all-screen device, but it intrudes on the the user experience -- something that Apple once held sacrosanct. The new navigational gestures are great, but in all honesty, I don't think it really advances the smartphone experience in any significant way. I'm happy with mine, overall, but I don't like feeling I've paid too much for something. And this is the first time that I have really thought and felt that with an Apple product.
