    Well here's the update.

I left the house to drop my sister at work. I got home just in time as my parents were hanging up the phone with Apple. It figures, doesn't it?

Any way, the news is this:

They could not get me the part. They are going to give me a, wait for it, new PowerBook.

I don't know the specs or anything, they treated my parents like they didn't know anything about technology (and to a certain extent, they don't).

So I missed the call and she left for the day so I have to call between 10:30 and 11:00 EST or 3:30 and 4:30 EST tomorrow and they will set me up with a new computer.

    I'm stunnned, I really am.

    CONGRATULATIONS

    Yours was the 500 pismo?

According to the prior examples it would give you the 1Ghz combo drive.

Though with your luck they´ll find a first gen. G4 500 mhz lying somewhere

    Thanks for the support guys.

The only thing that's killing me now is not knowing what I'm going to get!

Last time there were mass problems with a certain PB, I believe Apple offered the low end PB as a replacement (then a Pismo 400 at a reduced cost). I don't really think that a PB12 would make a fair replacement -- because of the screen I would think it belongs to a slightly different class. I also don't think they'll offer you a superdrive just because they seem to hate you. I would guess one of the Titaniums, either combo 867 or 1ghz. Though after all this they ought to give you a 17" Big Al.

Wouldn't it be funny if they decided a 14" iBook was the closest match (spec wise) to a Pismo and sent you one of those instead?

It's already been made quite clear it will be a PowerBook.

So you think it's going to happen Fran? Haven't you been by this point with Apple before?

Would you accept 10 in box Newtons for one powerbook

I wonder just how many Newtons Fran has hoarded away in case of emergency? You want mine Fran? 500 Canadian takes it, gotta finance this PB.

What if it's a refurbished Pismo they had lying around there?

It could happen. That 14" iBook's not looking so bad now, is it? haha, just busting your nads a bit there Fran, I think it'll be a combo drive Titanium.

If they had one, they would have given me the drive.

As for Newton Messagepads, I've got a 100, 120, 130, and 2100 (original) that are still working. How much is $500 Canadian nowadays, $50 or so?

I'm expecting a combo TiBook as well. I just have to see if I can buy another AppleCare warranty or 'upgrade' the machine in any way. I also have to see if I should pull my Airport card or if they will give me a new one.

I'll know what I'm getting at 10:30 and I'll keep you guys posted.

Apple and I chatted and they offered me a brand new 867 MHz PowerBook G4 (current middle laptop).

I was able to upgrade to this for $500:

    15.2-inch TFT Display

    1280x854 resolution

    1GHz PowerPC G4

    1MB L3 cache

    512MB SDRAM

    60GB Ultra ATA/66

    SuperDrive

    ATI Mobility Radeon 9000

    64MB DDR video memory

    Gigabit Ethernet

    FireWire 400

    AirPort built-in

    Bluetooth optional

    DVI & S-Video out

    Needless to say, I'm happy.

There are legal documents to be signed since I want to upgrade for $500 and since I want my new PowerBook before I send off my Pismo for the last time. They are faxing the documents but it might take a day or two to get them.

When I send them back, the machine will be sent out.

I guess the AppleCare warranty really WAS worth something!

IME with that (but not with Apple) is that the replacement fulfills the warranty for the "old" one. So I doubt they'd allow that.
