I don't really follow those companies. And, I don't want Apple to be a normal tech company. They didn't get to where they are by being one. And, while they now have so much cash it would be hard to fail, they'll eventually pull it off if they make too many bad decisions.

Isn't the complaint that all the product lines should be able to get something like an annual refresh so you're buying current tech and keeping up with the competition?

No doubt!!! If there were anything to this AI-baloney, we certainly shouldn't be pushing people to learn coding. LOL

Apple is the only tech brand that can be trusted, quietly waiting to be surprised...
At the moment, kinda sorta. But if you're ultimately placing your trust there, I think your surprise might end up being rather disappointing.

Yeah, and that's what they said about me, too. '18 Mac mini i7 sitting on my desk with a Blackmagic eGPU.

Yep, that's the point people like Andy Ihnatko, Marco Arment, etc. (as well as so many here) have been making. It doesn't matter how 'innovative' it is if it isn't useful for a lot of the user-base. Super-slim keyboards, or even virtual ones (or foldable phones) are cool as heck from a technological innovation geek kind of perspective, but don't help much if you're a journalist, programmer, student, or someone trying to get real work done.

Ihnatko considets a Chromebook to be a worthy successor to his 2015 MBP? The shark, she is jumped. All credibility lost. But I guess it’s a decent enough option if you’re all-in on google apps/G Suite or want to run Android apps.

Huh.  My experience with Windows laptops consists of the Dell notebook I was recently assigned at work.  There is literally nothing about it that I prefer over my 2017 13" MacBook Pro (touchbar) (the one with the "defective" keyboard).  The key travel is nice, but not any better than my MacBook's.  The key layout is worse (with half-sized "PgUp" and "PgDn" keys squeezed in above the left and right arrows, for example).  The trackpad is complete garbage compared to what I'm used to on any Mac.  It has the same ports as my MacBook (well only 3 USB-C's but it includes microSD slot, so it's a wash).  The darn thing runs so inefficiently that I lost work when I took it to a two hour meeting and when I got back to my desk Windows rebooted; I haven't lost any work on my MacBook in years even if the battery completely runs out while I'm working.  I can't even open my Dell notebook with one hand, because the hinge is too tight.  If you took my MacBook away, I'd probably try to live with strictly iOS if the alternative was using this laptop full time.  So yeah, Apple could improve its products (and I miss some features of older models), but I don't see how any long-time Mac user would seriously consider switching--unless their priority is intensive gaming I suppose.

This is one the most annoying features of my new MBP. Utterly mediocre POS compared to its predecessor. I am sorry I switched to the new one.

Apple increasingly seems to be driven by cheapness as a corporate strategy.
    Tim Cook must go!

Cook's leadership in new innovative products is questionable. His relationship with Jobs worked because Jobs was the visionary and Cook did the logistics.
I have little faith in his leadership of a corporate vision, especially after the hype he built behind the "Hello Again" keynote only to introduce a silly Touch Bar keyboard.

    Expectations are low...

Apple released 2 of the biggest products in tech history in the past few years. One of them being Apples 2nd biggest product ever.

Wow. The standards for Apple are ridiculous!!
What products are you referring to?
    This should be fairly obvious.

People were asking entirely justifiable questions about an update.

One Christmas they sold the same iMacs as the year before, not even a minor spec upgrade or price adjustment. Zippo.

It's not whining, it's people getting frustrated and angry.

    Seen this rerun before.

Your recent posts are an anti-Apple bitchfest. Apple haters whine about something, then when it releases "it's too expensive" or "my 200 buck chromebook is better lol".

Why not comment on what I actually stated?

How many years should Mac users sit on their hands in silence waiting for an upgrade or even official promise of an upgrade?

And when they do voice their discontent, someone is on hand with a dymo to slap a label on them!

    'Whiner, hater, anti-Apple' ...

Turn off your labeller for a second and answer that question, please.

How about Scott Forstall? Not sure if he has CEO chops, but at least he seemed to understand UI and that kind of stuff.

Interestingly, after just reading a bit about Forstall, there is speculation over a personality shift at Apple. Apparently, Steve liked strong personalities that would battle it out, and he'd decide. Whereas, Cook likes to keep people who get along well and get rid of 'troublemakers' which I suppose could be seen as people who don't agree. If true, that explains quite a bit. Apparently, Forstall and Ive didn't see eye-to-eye much... and one can see the difference between iOS 6 (Forstall) and iOS 7 (Ive).
Why? Because he didn't have the good sense to tell Jobs "no" when he wanted Corinthian leather and torn paper on the Calendar and all sorts of other stupid visual gimmicks like the Passbook shredder and Podcast reel-to-reel player? Good fucking riddance to all that nonsense!

Scott Forstall wasn't a Leader. Fullstop. end of story. His public reaction to a public setback showed he wasn't what was needed. It really is that simple.
Not sure. I thought at one point he was being considered. But, from what I read, it was more that he and Ive didn't get along, and Ive aligned better with Cook's 'harmony' style. (And, Forstall was considered much more like Jobs.)

All I know is that after Forstall went away and Ive took over, most of iOS went to $*(#. It's recovering, but Ive did a ton of UI damage, which also affected most 3rd party apps trying to copy it.

I think you're missing a bit of context, there. The guy types for a living. It really doesn't matter how great a MBP is if you need to type and the keyboard is crap.

Yeah, I mostly agree on the machine overall, and especially the OS. But, I think his point is that since he types for a living, what good is a laptop you can't type on? I couldn't really switch either, at least not easily. So, I'm really glad the Mac mini got updated and is a pretty great machine. I just couldn't have gone with a MBP, which was my prior plan. My son has a 2016. The keyboard SUCKS! I could have used it 'docked' with an external keyboard, but it would have been useless for travel.

I'm not a huge fan of felt and leather textures in UIs, but I am a fan of UIs that makes sense and don't break nearly every UI advancement that took decades to learn. I'll take some Corinthian leather any day over all black icons on a button bar, or 'active' text that gives no indication it is active or that kind of stupid stuff.
