Just hoping they fix the problems with iOS 12.4 before these new iPads come out. The update screwed up the ability to record in GarageBand with IAA and AU extensions.
The last couple of updates have resulted in persnickety issues with my iPad Pro, notably a lag — even occasional lack of responsiveness — with touch.

Hmm. I thought it was just me having bad luck with my iPad. I believe I’ve been having similar issues with responsiveness.
Amazon has the 9.7" iPad for $249. Couldn't resist. I picked up 2 yesterday to replace 4 aging iPads of various vintages going all the way back to the OG iPad - which still works btw. Giving those away to friends and family. The new ones should last just as long as the ones they're replacing. One for the fam, and one for me.
Great deal! However I’m worried, these new models could be significantly better if the next A series chip lives up to expectations. Well A series and Apple removing head from but and addressing the RAM and SSD sizes (one can hope). I can imagine Apple wanting to kick off iPadOS with really compelling hardware.
Im not sure how other people see this but iPadOS “could” be a jig thing at Apple. I say could because it takes a man with vision to move a platform forward and do it in a way that inspires the user base. I’m not even sure such a person exists at Apple right now. If he does exist I can see Apple being persuaded to really goose up the iPad to make the new OS attractive.
I don’t buy it. I think this part of that article sums up what they’re doing:
As Bloomberg reported last year, the initiative (known internally as Kalamata) is part of a larger strategy that will make all Apple hardware and devices from the Mac to the iPad work more similarly and seamlessly together.
New design iMacs likely won’t arrive until Apple can make all SSD lineup affordable, because there’s a big win In making all Macs with T2 chips. And T2 chips don’t support spinning HDDs.
I will do the same for the 2013 MBA I have, although that comes with the attendant cost of having to switch over to USB-C. Keep coming with the innovation and new stuff I don't really need, Apple!
There may be less attendant cost to "switch over" to USB-C because by that point most "things" one would attach to the MBA will also be USB-C. Your printer (if you have one) will likely have been replaced by that time, as will most other peripherals. At most, you'll want to get a cheap hub that offers one or two legacy USB-A ports and a camera card reader. So that's an extra ... $40 maybe. Damn Apple tax!!
Speaking of which ... remember when a decent hub had to have its own power supply or it was unreliable with certain peripherals? Yeah, that's no longer a thing ...

Well...as you point out, there are more to costs than a $40 hub. Note on a $800 MBA that is a 5% "tax." There is also the attendant cost of dragging the thing around, paranoia of losing it, and all the replacement cables. I do agree that the march of progress requires this change, but I will delay it until necessary.

I hope they’ve fixed the hardware issues where the screen becomes unresponsive to touch. My 12.9” was bad with iOS 12 but is much worse with the iOS 13 public beta.
Since all of these new iPads will probably have an 12X, I hope they don’t seriously leave my iPad Pro 10.5 behind when it comes to dishing out the new features. I’m not that big on augmented reality, and God knows I love my 3.5 mm headphone jack ,but I would be sorry to miss out on increased Siri capability, for instance.

Craig did concede at the The Talk Show Lve just days after the Keynote that the No. wouldn't be bigger enough to stop speculation.
Note the slide does not say "Will you ever merge iOS and macOS?"
Desperation. lol.
“Will Apple ever merge with Google?”
“Will Apple ever produce smart diapers?”
...anything’s, uh, possible. Yeah no. Craig can’t state what the indefinite future for the next century has in store, but he can say what he’s not doing in the planned future.

I still have a box of ADB cables and peripherals.
