Yeh, China haters are becoming as common as the Corona Virus -- and they are equally as infectious and deadly.
They rely on modern Republican political strategies exploiting smear campaigns based mostly on half-truths spun into lies.
One has to wonder why this political campaign got started and continues to run? Certainly Trump kicked it off with his failed Trade War and fear mongering of National Security concerns...
Obama to China: Stop hacking U.S. companies, or else
So, what this really means that in the 1980s, the republicans who were in power, willfully refused to build out modern manufacturing, and that that thinking permeated all decisions since?
Nope. They all share blame, Bill Clinton having a special place in it.
The epic mistake about manufacturing that’s cost Americans millions of jobs
Playing a blame game doesn't work, we all share some of it. It's not those evil ol' 'publicans behind it all. You should read more and include more sources.
'publicons specialize in turning half truths into untruths in order to sell their narrative to the stupid and gullible.
"Playing the blame game" is simply another version of the "They all do it" excuse they use when they get caught.
I think it's hard to argue with the following points:
1. Manufacturing the iPhone at its current scale takes a huge number of workers. 2. China has those workers, along with needed infrastructure to support manufacturing 3. Only India has the number of workers, but their infrastructure sucks 4. There is a hard limit on the extent to which humans can be replaced by machines. GM and Apple learned this in the 80s, Tesla learned it with the Model 3; Darth Sidious learned it with the droid invasion of Naboo.
So, yeah, Apple can't really avoid manufacturing in china.
So, no, Apple doesn’t have to at all. The examples you mention are all invalid, since the 80’s automation capabilities changed completely, Tesla does automate in a new innovative way, it took a bit longer to ramp that up ... It would be a big challenge which Apple as a computer company has the capabilities for. Think out of the box instead of status quo.
No, they don't have to.
But they go with the best, the fastest, the most efficient, the most reliable available: That's mostly China.

I'm a Liberal Democrat, and both parties have a history of bending over backwards to offshore manufacturing, and even services. Fortunately, Xi Jinping's, and Putin's recent actions are making it much easier for the West to justify disengagement, but it won't happen overnight.
Given the Human Rights violations continuing in China, especially the forced labor of minorities in manufacturing, Apple needs to implement a plan to exit China, even at the potential loss of China's consumers. China has become significantly more Authoritarian with Xi Jinping in power, much more so than when Apple began using China's supply chain, manufacturing, and assembly for the bulk of its consumer products. It's a bad look for Apple, and as well, for all of the other Western companies in China.
China is a recognized and growing National Security threat to the West, and the West should not be sharing dual purpose technologies that are, and will be, used against the West in the future. The West should also enhance its own available 5G sources, technologies, and production, avoiding use of Huawei and ZTE for buildout.

.... Congratulations on learning how to use Google search to blame right wing lies on Obama though. Good thing he's not U.S. citizens though huh?
The South China Morning Post (4th link) is not a right-wing media outlet. Neither is Foreignpolicy.com or Reuters. More evidence that you're a dishonest debater because you know that. Hopefully all the regulars and many of our casual visitors are beginning to recognize that if they did not already.
Back to ignore...

By the way, there are things in some of your posts that seem to indicate you are Chinese, or at least not native to the west? I realize the forum name is Western, but certain bits imply otherwise. Nothing wrong with that of course.
Sorry, but one of the techniques of right wing trolls and jihadists is to find an article from a main stream new source that reports on the possibility of something and then either takes it out of context or blows it out of proportion in order to "prove" some crazy right wing claim or justify one of their ongoing and never ending agendas.
The formula is a simple one: Start with the one of their agendas, claims or ideologies and then do Google searches to prove it or justify it with "FACTS"!. Frankly, you could "prove" that the world is flat with that kind of "logic".
The simple fact is, cherry picking out of context or speculative 'facts' doesn't change bullshit into truth.
The truth is: China outcompeted us. They did it better, faster and cheaper and so, U.S. manufacturers moved their manufacturing there. Yes. we've had some disputes with them -- but that's normal. It wasn't till Trump started his foolish protectionist Trade Wars that it became a so called "national security issue". And then, even he admitted that the main issue was that China will soon pass us as the world's #1 economy -- which doesn't work well on a MAGA hat.
So try this one on for size: These right wing zealots are all claiming that China is the national security threat. Yet, they ignore Russia that every U.S. intelligence agency has conclusively stated multiple times has attacked our country and undermined our election now for the third consecutive election. But they don't say word about Russia. Why is that?
To me it all adds up to one of the many right wing smear campaigns -- that we will be seeing a LOT more of over the next 8 months.
Am I on China's side? No. I am a loyal American and I know that basing foreign policy on lies and corruption seldom benefits this country or its people.
