You may very well be correct, Trump might be placed into the White House again, but it will be via voter suppression (such as the recent, potentially lethal Wisconsin primary) or with the help of Putin & Friends (TM). Either way, the Wisconsin Foxconn con or the 2017 tax deform are more examples of the right-wing five-fingered grab of our treasury money and community resources. The fact that the WI Foxconn facility sits empty is a massive symbol of the emptiness of the orange WH squatter’s policies.
Sure, voter suppression, Putin, Russia, lol.

And I'm actually a KGB agent in disguise.

The crazies still haven't gotten over the last loss, I don't expect those same people to get over the next loss anytime soon. They already have their excuses and blame planned out in advance. The lunatics should probably book their scream at the sky sessions in advance, because they're going to need it.
Voter suppression is a fact. Voter fraud is a hoax. Putin is a commie and it’s a fact that Putin is Trump’s friend. That makes you a commie-lover.

This was corporate welfare. Aka socialism. Sounds like you’re a fan of both now.

Sorry AppleIi, most of the time I really look forward to your posts.  But I am just not feeling it right now.

I remember Trump shutting down travel from China pretty early on, and some batshit insane dems and the garbage leftist media started attacking him claiming it was racist, while he was taking the appropriate actions. His ban on travel from Europe was also criticized. Trump has handled the current situation just fine, much better than the previous guy who came before him, who never bothered to replenish the nationwide stockpile of N95 masks, even though he was made aware of the shortage.

Fake innovation centers from a fake president. Designed to swing votes in the swing state.
He's very real and no matter how hard certain people who can't handle facts and reality insist, he's also the legitimate President, regardless if some people like it or not.

Verge is leftist? lol what fantasy nonsense. Just because someone criticizes the president doesn’t make them leftist. Just admit it — you joined a cult. You’re compelled to defend him like he’s your dad. That’s whack.
They most definitely are leftist. They're a political site with an agenda disguised as a "tech site". They've been running numerous Trump hit pieces for a very long time now. Those articles show up every once in a while.  I remember one from not too long ago where their solution to the corona virus was for Trump to resign. Delusional, fanatical libs who suffer from TDS are looking for any opportunity they can to show the world just how deranged they are. The only problem for them is that their idiotic wishes and fantasies wont be coming true for them this time either. After hundreds of failed attempts, you'd figure that they would get the message, but apparently not. They are sick in the head after all.

I’m not convinced that FoxConn has the kind of jobs at US based plants that will produce long term, sustainable jobs for Americans. Try to put all the politics aside just for a minute and think about the economics of the scenario that FoxConn is supposedly going to deliver to Wisconsin. I’ve spent many years working on highly distributed projects with worldwide contributors across a variety of high-cost and low-cost development centers. In general, companies don’t move from lower-cost development centers to higher-cost development centers. FoxConn certainly doesn’t, unless someone else is footing the bill. Without guaranteed, permanent subsidies to offset their increased costs, which also means subsidies that survive regime changes and political uncertainty in the target country, FoxConn will leave town as soon as the subsidies evaporate.

The other problem I have is more nuanced. Countries that outsource manufacturing tend to be more prosperous than countries that are the target of outsourcing. Do Americans really want to be an outsourcing target and be forced to be in direct competition with lower-cost manufacturing centers like Mexico, China, Vietnam, the Philippines, etc? This isn’t a knock on those locations, it’s simply a warning that the US could never compete against those locations due to its high labor costs, substandard primary education, and insufficient skill-based training programs for critical manufacturing competencies.  Massive increases in automation won’t make a difference because automation can move along with the jobs.

I think he could have handled it more responsibly. Why did he say it was a democratic hoax early on?

Funny, I remember him doing nothing in December while ignoring his intelligence people's dire warnings, and then finally banning some travelers from China in late January, but it was too late, and there wasn't a complete ban or any testing of travelers.  And for weeks afterwards, entirely a PR effort with no one at the top making sure that any testing was going on.  It was almost zero.  And finally, with the worst outbreak in the world here, we're now spending trillions of dollars and expecting one or two hundred thousand deaths.  Meanwhile, South Korea, which had its first case the same day as us, did tens of thousands of tests a day right from the start and got the virus under control without shutting down their economy and have had only 217 deaths so far (3 yesterday, 3 today).  Trump as usual gives himself a 10 out of 10.

Oh, and I'm surprised that it's still Obama's fault, four years later, that essentially none of the recommendations of the pandemic simulations and studies his people and Trump's did jointly during the transition, and that the new administration did subsequently, were ever implemented.

I’ve found an error in the English language.

The following sentence should be true:  You can’t spell “politics” without BS.

So, I’ve created a new word to replace politics: Bullisht

Someone else will need to create a replacement for “politicians”... maybe an anagram of wasteofair

If this is behind schedule, then that clearly has to do with Foxconn. Foxconn still says that they remain committed even though it is behind schedule. 2032 which is mentioned in the article is 12 years away. Get some perspective.

Trump has nothing to do with the actual operations or the building of the factory, obviously. He enabled the deal, it's up to Foxconn to do their part.

Agreed. It's amazing and sad how many Americans want America to fail just to spite Trump. I fear for our future.

That's one way to look at it.

Another way to look at it is so many Americans don't want to see America burn in a house fire, so they constantly criticise Trump. They fear for the country's future.

    Absolutely!

If the Russians were involved then they did a shockingly poor job.

I mean, he lost the actual voter tally by 3 million.

So, even with Russian involvement, the majority of Americans wanted Hilary Clinton in the Whitehouse, rather than him?

Sorry, if the Russians were involved then Donny needs to get a refund.

Colour me unsurprised. This had "scam" written all over it. They will pretend to do something for a few more years, and then declare that "the market has changed" and will abandon it. In the end they will pocket a pile of taxpayer money and WI will be stuck with these facilities that it will have to unload.

You get that tax breaks don't actually cost a state anything if there otherwise wouldn't have been any income to tax, right?

Let's do the math.  Suppose a company has no footprint in Wisconsin.  Wisconsin earns $0 in tax revenue.  Now suppose WI tells the company that they will give a $10 million tax break if that company builds a factory there and employs a bunch of people.  Yet the company builds a factory and doesn't employ anyone.  Tax revenue for WI: $0.  Net cost to WI taxpayers: $0.

    Oh well.

Good old Andrew Cuomo spent 750 million on our Tesla Gigafactory, and it is doing the same thing. It’s just sitting there, not producing anything.
Wrong.  Factory is operating, employs over 1,500 people, and does in fact produce parts for the supercharger network and Tesla’s solar cell business.
No, it doesn’t employ that many people. I drive by it every day, and live in the area. They have not met the hiring quota. They were splitting the building with Panasonic, and Panasonic just left. The factory capacity is severely underused.

Trump's ban on travel was not only weeks late in coming -- by which time the virus was already here.   But it was not travel "from China", it was travel by Chinese while thousands continued to stream into the country.   It was just another of Trump's racist scam's.

No president who colludes with an enemy to get himself elected can be called legitimate -- especially one who most Americans voted against.

FWIW they had some unique advantages, and their best weapon is still social distancing assisted by testing/contact tracking to identify those specific areas to lock-down more securely. They've recently run up against a small resurgence of their own.

So can we now get back on topic, Foxconn scamming Wisconsin and others (IMO)?

Well of course nothing is going to happen while this virus is happening for sure. I'm in this Industrial area here and there was another LARGE building going up, mostly done now on the outside, other than some things left on the building and landscaping. I'm sure there is still a ton of work on the inside. I seen very few people there doing much of anything. All the work has ground down also to nothing. 1 or 2 trucks, a couple people. I guess building a new building is not Essential.

You can't really use this Virus for Foxconn excuse. You can NOW, but really, they weren't doing a whole lot of anything already.
