The only hard part for me about the 24th release is that its a saturday. I know this has been pointed out in other posts and in other boards, but its still true, and I think a necessary point to analyze. I'm not going to pretend I know every release day that I have been around for, but off the top of my head I can't think of on on a saturday, or for that matter on a weekeend. It just seems like they would get much better press during the week.

    my 2 cents

The 13th is a tuesday almost all of apple's announcements have been on tuesdays. I don't know if it will be on the 13th or not but it makes more sense than the 24th. Apple would not release new products on a saturday. Plus it is important to realize that apple all ready has 10.2 done the GM is done and there is nothing to stop them from including it on the new powermacs if they come out before the 24th. Apple just can't sell it individually yet because they don't have enough copies for that yet. Duplication takes time...just think about how long it takes to burn a CD (yes the duplication machines are much faster but it still takes time) I am betting that these new PowerMacs will be a nice surprise! In time.

I agree... I could see Steve releasing updated PM's on the 13th and saying they will all come with Jag pre-installed, and that they will be in stores in two weeks... (2 weeks is the same as he claimed for the iMac-17 and also ends up being the Aug 27th)...

    That is my prediction anyway...

Has there been actual public confirmation of Apple Events in the past?

If so - when did Apple announce their events?

When did Apple announce the iPod Event?

I seem to think it was a Monday - but I could be mistaken.

Hmm, interesting. But if you were Apple, would release machines on a 13th of any month? Seriously, they will all be full of bugs!

Commercial Software upgrades often take place on saturdays. Mac OS X 10.0 was released on saturday, march 24th. So 08/24 is quite ok to me.

Hardware is mostly announced tuesdays or wednesdays.

Special events usually get published a week and a half in advance. This results in wither 13/14th(and we have slipped an invitation) or 20th/21st of August.

Basically any date between monday 12th and saturday 24th is more or less likely for an introduction. The question is, is the upgrade that small to allow for a silent upgrade? i don't think 1.4 GHz duals and DDR333 would let Apple do a silent upgrade. A simple speedbump would. A new enclosure usually sports significantly updated innards. Are the pics (which we are not allowed to link to or post :-) we've seen recently likely to arrive within next 15 days? Are they real, or just case samples? Or a good mockup? That case would suggest a more significant update and thus not a silent upgrade. But Apple is hyping Jaguar and not the PowerMacs or any other "mysterious" or "shakeing" (pun semi intended) introduction.

Maybe it's just the end of a G4/display promo... :-P Basically most rumour sites say that they don't have any evidence of when/if at all/or what the next generation will be. Some do that in a more disguising way than others.

Let's hope that Apple is in for a positive surprise in the not so distant future. I know Jaguar shines bright but I hope that other people will be able to see the light through their windows.

    ----

Jaguar shines, but that does not necessarily mean oxidative photophosphorelation.

Apple's ship dates for the current PowerMacs have just jumped to 8 days - which is as good an indicator as any that they're discontinuing the line soon.

As for invitations and special announcements, I got my invitation in the mail yesterday - didn't you?

The last time new PowerMacs were announced there was no Apple Event but, instead, the information was just posted in an update to the website and a Press Release

So, It will be something good, it will be good,

Maybe the lack of change from current powermac's case to the new "unpostable" one signifies a speed bump and not an overhaul.

So, if they ship the new machines and Jugar then, wouldn't they do it at a Special Event? A DDR Powermac with a 20-40% increaase in speed would be a nice thing to get some press coverage over.

The 13th.. that's only g days away, they for sure would have announced the event by now.

Everything that points to the 13th sounds convencing, and everything that doesnt point there sounds convencing. What to believe?!

Do not point this on Apple. Apple never stated that they were going to release hardware or software on August 13th. For you to say that is just wrong

Acctually I wasn't teasing, I was being a smartass. Either way, the effect is the same, I have NOT gotten an invitation, i thought that was implied by the fact that I am a complete chain yanker.

keep some salt in your pockets folks.

And, Speaking of disreputable, SpyMac had this to say:

"Finally, one anonymous reader claiming to have a source at an Apple Retail outlet alleges a new shipment of Power Macs.

?They were packed in a plain brown box and had tamper-proof tape on them.

?[The store manager] pulled out a black tarp-like cover and a padlock and covered all the boxes with it.? "

So.. SpyMac is slightly less believable than I, but I'd like to think this may be true... Here's hoping!

Yeah, I'd thought so, just had a bit much IBM induced euphoria. Sorry. As for the salt, I don't need to keep it in my pocket, that's what this huge honkin' salt lick in the corner if for.
