Great. Now why were you bothering me with this then?
I wasn't bothering you about this personal opinion, but about a factual statement which, which, while not essentially untrue, was imprecise and misleading, as explained previously.
There is clear precedent that no treaty can override the US Constitution, or (I think) even exisiting law.
No, a treaty can't override the Constitution. Only treaties that cover something that isn't covered by the Constitution hold any weight. So if some president signs a treaty that takes away freedom of speech, it's irrelevant until a new amendment to the constitution takes it out of the constitution first.

No, you were bothering me about something you believe I implied in my statement. It was 'the other guy' that made a 'factual' error. Go reread the thread.

pyr3 declared not to care about the UN Charter, that's not factual, but personal.
You replied: ?The UN Charter is US law?, in a thread on the topic of torture, that's not a personal opinion, but a factual statement, which I addressed.

Go reread the thread.
It might do you good to follow your own advice here.
Now, old woman - you are accused of heresy on three counts - heresy by thought, heresy by word, heresy by deed, and heresy by action - four counts. Do you confess?
Wilde:
I don't understand what I'm accused of.
Ximinez:
Ha! Then we shall make you understand! Biggles! Fetch...THE SOFT CUSHIONS!
(JARRING CHORD)
(Biggles holds out two ordinary modern household cushions)
Biggles:
Here they are, lord.
Ximinez:
Now, old lady - you have one last chance.
Confess the heinous sin of heresy, reject the works of the ungodly - two last chances.
And you shall be free - three last chances.
You have three last chances, the nature of which I have divulged in my previous utterance.
Wilde:
I don't know what you're talking about.
Ximinez:
Right! If that's the way you want it - Cardinal! Poke her with the soft cushions!
(Biggles carries out this rather pathetic torture)
Ximinez:
Confess! Confess! Confess!
Biggles:
It doesn't seem to be hurting her, lord.
Ximinez:
Have you got all the stuffing up one end?
Biggles:
Yes, lord.
Ximinez:
(angrily hurling away the cushions)
Hm! She is made of harder stuff! Cardinal Fang! Fetch...THE COMFY CHAIR!
(JARRING CHORD)
(Zoom into Fang's horrified face)
Fang:
(terrified)
The...Comfy Chair?
(Biggles pushes in a really plush comfy chair)
Ximinez:
So you think you are strong because you can survive the soft cushions. Well, we shall see. Biggles! Put her in the Comfy Chair!
(They roughly push her into the Comfy Chair)
Ximinez:
(with a cruel leer)
Now - you will stay in the Comfy Chair until lunch time, with only a cup of coffee at eleven.
(aside, to Biggles)
Is that really all it is?
Biggles:
Yes, lord.
Ximinez:
I see. I suppose we make it worse by shouting a lot, do we? Confess, woman. Confess! Confess! Confess! Confess!

No, you addressed some crap about the anti-torture treaty and attributed it to me.

No, you addressed some crap about the anti-torture treaty and attributed it to me.
As can be read upthread, I addressed your ?The UN Charter is US law? statement, by precising which legal document is actually relevant to this thread's topic: torture, and also briefly addressed the nature of the relationship, and of the difference, between international law and the law of the land.
No, you addressed some crap about the anti-torture treaty and attributed it to me.
Do you really have nothing else to do but argue over whether or not he should have told you that the UN Charter is different from the anti-torture treaty? Get over yourself.
"These people haven't heard heavy metal before. They can't take it. If you play it for 24 hours, your brain and body functions start to slide, your train of thought slows down and your will is broken."
That would explain a lot.
if they used britney spears instead, the iraqis won't have survived even 15 minutes.

Cute? I´m dead serious. THIS IS TORTURE and makes all talk about the spread of western democratic values sound hollow I just refuse to put the faces up everytime there is something out there that is wrong.
Are you absolutely insane? Really, are you joking here? You are attempting to compare playing heavy metal music to torture? Excuse me, sir, I don't believe you know what torture is. Some of us think that cutting tongues out of people's mouths and leaving them to bleed to death for speaking against a government is torture. Or maybe the slow cutting off of one's fingers and/or fingernails. Or maybe the raping and murder of a man's daughter and wife in front of him to get him to talk. What about pouring burning acid on a person's eyes? Or beating, molesting, and killing little children in front of their mothers? Or hanging someone upside down with rope from the ceiling and beating him blindfolded with stun guns and baseball bats? Some of us, at least here in America, believe that this is what torture is. Not playing music too loudly. The fact that this is all you can come up with against the American government shows just how humanely they do treat international terrorist prisoners.
I would trust the United States of America any day over the joke called the UN Human Rights Commission led by Libya.
Do you really, honestly, believe that playing Barney songs and Metallica is torture?

Whatever. I think the extremists are those who stand by trying to bash everything about America while ignoring the aforementioned human rights absues going on in a large part of the world. When are you going to stand up for those people? When is the United Nations going to stand up for those people?
