Wait a minute...ALL I said in this thread was that DESPITE Jobs' probable left-leanings and all, I think he's the cat's meow and have dug EVERYTHING he's done since returning to Apple.
I haven't slammed anyone...only praised. Again and again.
Ain't no "AppleOutsider" angle to it, fellas.
Limbaugh being a hardcore rightwinger and digging Macs has no more impact on me than Jobs being a bit of a leftie and running my favorite company of all time. I look beyond the man, on both accounts.
[Powers]It's all about the SEXY gear, baby. Yeah! And the grooooovy OS.[/Powers]
Rush didn't mention any of that though. He sounded more like a Mac fanboy than a political pundit as BRussell already said. He even sidestepped the caller's Al Gore attack.
But yes, Apple should try to get in touch with the stereotypical Rush listeners...the NASCAR crowd basically. I wonder how many of them eat Kellogg's cereal, prefer UPS to FedEx, shop at Home Depot, use Dupont paint, drink Bud, and use Cingular just because they saw the logos on a 'stock' car.

How come when I said the very same not one year ago, you were one of the first - and most vocal - parties to jump all over me and inform me how wrong and off-base my idea was?
SMACK!!!
The sooner Apple is seen less as an "oh, THAT computer..." and, in some cases, taken out of the hands of the hipper-than-thou, elitist pricks that often gum up the works, the better it'll be for everyone involved. Only really closed-minded, snobbish types (here and elsewhere) hate the notion of Apple "appealing to the masses".
I submit that its their failure to do so that has left them with such stellar marketshare numbers.
Would it hurt ANY of you if a Dale Earnhardt, Jr. fan bought a G5? Would it "dilute the pool" in any way?
No. Bring 'em on.
But I've certainly seen posts and threads by some here that certainly seem to lean that way...
The WORST that can happen is that he'll stick a number 8 decal on the side of it.
ALL I said in this thread was that DESPITE Jobs' probable left-leanings and all, I think he's the cat's meow and have dug EVERYTHING he's done since returning to Apple.
Without kidding, I believe that Steve Jobs was able to make Apple the ultra-progressive company it is today, THANKS TO his left-leanings. Think about it. All I expect from conservatives is their conservativeness. All I expect from progressives is the entire world and all that's not yet in it.
As you can see, I was all over Apple sponsoring NASCAR like a hobo on a hot dog.
It's been brought up several times, actually. I just know it hasn't been the a while. Sorry, I got your "dinging NASCAR in general" confused with "thinking any Apple/NASCAR connection was a horrible idea".
My mistake then. We've had this type of thing before, so it all blends together.
So have a hot dog, realize that I'm right, you're right and Apple - and others - are wrong.
In any case, you know they'd have the coolest-looking car! The possibilities...just think!
White car with blue accents/swoops and big blue aqua Apple on the hood. And special paint schemes a couple of times a year (when Panther or whatever came out, feature that logo/color scheme).
A PowerBook paint scheme: silver/aluminum-colored car with white, dimensional Apple logo on hood.
It would be cool to see a car that had a primary and associate sponsors all in one field. I mean, Tony Stewart has Home Depot, Old Spice, Coca-Cola, etc. Gordon has DuPont, Pepsi, Fritos, Quaker State, etc. Kinda a mish-mash of companies and products.
But on an Apple car, it would be cool to see Apple as the primary, then smaller/associate sponsorship from: Adobe, Harman Multimedia, Canon and/or HP, Pixar (ha!), Kensington, Macworld, AppleInsider, etc.

But yes, Apple should try to get in touch with the stereotypical Rush listeners...the NASCAR crowd basically.
It's not just the NASCAR crowd who listen to him. I worked as a Product Engineer in one of the world's largest semiconductor companies for years and many professional people who I worked with listened to Rush. (And on the flip side, many other professional people I worked at this company hated him.)
Of course more than the "NASCAR crowd" listen to him. You don't get his ratings/numbers/success if that's the only type (and you can define that however you want, but be nice) of people who listen.
It's a cliche and a stereotype to think it's one type of crowd. That would be like me saying everyone who listens to NPR is tw...well, let me think of another example...
i don't listen to any radio...that is why i have my iPod ...npr frightens me, rush bores me to no end and mainstream radio is way too many commercials and the same 8 songs played over and over (sort of like watching a car go round and round)
you know, i just thought of this. i think it was either on Sat. or Sun afternoons in NM, there's a local gal who has a show that's on npr (NMpr, local programming).
anyway, my dad and i were listening to her and the show was just awful, worst dialogue i'd ever heard in my entire life. i couldn't believe she was on the air ever, let alone a recurring program. then the talking part ended and she started queing up the music.
AMAZING! she had extremely diverse taste in music, and pulled out wonderful pieces from almost every genre i've ever heard in my entire life. it was the first time ever i'd listened to an hour of music and liked every single song. she had blue grass, classical, rap, rock, irish folk, you name it. (except country ) anyway, some time if you're bored and flip on the radio and here some girl stammering over the simplest of annoucements, don't touch a dial.
you may be about to be transported into a world where radio actually lived up to its potential.
I actually listen to those streaming stations a lot in iTunes, when I feel like something different and "not in my playlist".
Yes, commercial radio...sigh.
I only listen to Rush if somethng big is going on in the world because he's usually pretty funny about how he says things and I get a good chuckle. But I don't/can't listen to him 3 hours a day, 5 days a week.
No way.
I'm no "dittohead", but I can enjoy his show in small doses, depending on what's going on in the world. He's funnier than the legion of copycats he helped spawn, that's for sure!
I bet an Apple commercial with Gore and Limbaugh in it would be one heck of an attention getter.
In fact, I think a commercial like this would be ideal to show during the superbowl. Since it wouldn?t have to rely on any heavy special effects, it wouldn?t cost too much to make. All it needs to do is to create a lot of humor with the differences these two men have with each other?s politics and/or feelings towards each other while showing the Mac?s features in some way.
