Local CompUSA Apple employee said no on Powerbooks for next week when I visited today. He did say G5s would be arriving on Tuesday though.

I don't care how good looking it is or any other windox lap lady is. looks are looks, it's the os man it's thathe os. I won't buy another windozzzzz thing period. LET'S count the reasons:

    #1 #2 #3 it's not os x it's not apple it's not elegant

i'm tired of waisting time downloading patches it eats up my time and HD they all use windozzzzz and that sucks

give me apple osx or give me laptop death. it just doen'st matter how elegant they look. I HATE THE WINDOZ EXPERIENCE IT'S ABUSIVE AND AN INSULT TO ELEGANCE GOOD TASTE AND MY PYSYCHY (?sp)

It's hideously ugly and runs Windows.

For the eight millionth time, CompUSA employees, including the ASCs, know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about unannounced products and never will.

That said, I have to (unfortunately) agree with pscates and say no new PBs until Paris.

Clarify something, please: "unfortunate" that you're having to AGREE with me (gasp!), or "unfortunate" in that it's more waiting for this PowerBook?

    Just curious...

I understand your feelings about win stuff. I must admit, though, the XP Pro OS has been very stable and easy to use. It's no OS X, but at least it is reliable (has been for me). I was just pointing out that there are lots of fast (1.7 Pentium M), option rich (ATI Radeon 9000, DVD 2X burner, 2GB RAM, 60GB 7200RPM HD, etc), mobile solutions out there and Apple has been painfully behind in the performance game.

No doubt that OS X is tops with Apple, but it's just been a frustrating wait for me (waiting to pull the trigger on PB).

Compared to the PB 15", it's

    - 0.1 pound heavier

    - 0.7 inches thicker

    - about $400 more expensive

    - unable to run Mac OS X.

    (1.4 Pentium M, Superdrive, 512 RAM)

It is actually .17 inches thicker. (And a whole hell of a lot faster)

The CompUSA person was an Apple employee, not a CompUSA one. He said he was getting a G5 Demo on Tuesday. We'll see if it happens and I'll let everyone know.

I believe there is a promotion that one can lease a powerbook. This promotion is valid until 31 Aug. (In europe at least)

Wouldn't it be logical that they update after 31 Aug?

    The Countdown has begun...

T -48 hours until we all see if these rumors where true or not. I'm banking that Apple will pull through strong.

If they do, I swear to stop these annoying posts (for all those senior members whom are frustrated by my banter.)

If they don't... God help us all! It will be a long month until Apple Expo!

I'm not a snob or nuthin', but seriously, people like you shouldn't be allowed to own Apple hardware because you obviously don't appeciate it.

First, if Jonathon Ives produced something that looked like that, Steve would slap him. And then fire him. And then hire him again just so he could fire him a few more times.

Second, it runs Windows. Now that may come down to a matter of personal taste, but frankly I am surprised that anyone who has ever used a Powerbook could seriously consider a Wintel machine to be a "serious contender".

Third, the technical stuff - not actually much faster than a G4 powerbook (even nominally), no bluetooth, no illuminated keyboard, no aluminium chassis, no style... sorry, technical stuff, right - no firewire, no firewire 2, no instant sleep/wakeup feature, no internal speakers? can that be right? What about a built in mike? who knows?

Basically it's dump, it's not even a good PC laptop, if there is such a thing.

Heh no it won't effect PBooks. They are assembled in tawain or some asian country with cheap labor and then shipped to the west cost.

The only thing MSBlast did/does is cause annoyance for MS.

Your reply is totally inaccurate. The machine has firewire, excellent speakers, USB 2.0...and in case you haven't noticed: the current 15 PB has no bluetooth, no illuminated keyboard, no aluminum chasis, no USB 2.0 etc. The list goes on. So how about you "wake up" and get real. Don't give me a hard time for speaking the truth. I am not defending this Voodoo laptop, I was just remarking that I thought it was cool. I also think that it smokes the current PB and that I am frustrating waithing fo the new one. That's all.

Hey in case you haven't read all the news, but the Powerbook line is being updated this week. So there will be bluetooth, backlight keyboard, firewire 800 etc in the 15incher.

    Forget that silly Vodoo stuff!

    APPLE rocks!
