Either "my mac" or "the mac".

I never thought of naming "my mac" though I do name things. Example: I have named every bic lighter I've owned since I started smoking (9 years ago) and because of this I would become emotionally attached to them. Of course, bics don't last forever, so I've lived a life of almost constant heartbreak for close to a decade.

Admitting to this in a public forum is a clear sign that I have no business being here right now. It has been a long week.

Gee anyone want to guess where I got the idea for the last three?

Evangelion. Duh. Doesn't every self respecting coder know that stuff?

BTW, good choices for your computer names, but technically the Magi system is composed of three equal machines. In this case, Melchior has the leg up on the other aspects of Dr. Akagi's mind. I can't remember specifically what part of Dr. Akagi's mind Melchior was, but I seem to recall that it was Dr. Akagi as a woman.

Cool name. Properly obscure and properly Geek. Metropolis was a great anime, so long as you understand apocalyptic literature and the themes that are common in the apocalyptic genre.

Hal is too overdone though 2001 is my favorite movie of all time.

These kinds of threads are ALWAYS successful because they help people on the forum get an idea of who other people on the forum are. The forum is actually really impersonal and because one's computer name/music selection/desktop picture are innately personal choices, knowing what these choices are helps you to get an idea of what kind of person someone else is.

I do not own a Mac.

My work has kindly given me a big balck Dell tower and a Heavy Black Dell laptop. Given that these are evil Dell machines, I have named them appropriately.

    Dell Desktop name: Melkor

    Dell laptop name: Ungolaint

Name for a future G5 Al Book: Fëanor

May Fëanor not fight it out with Gothmog.

No, I am not a Tolkien nut, I just like the story.

My Powerbook G4/400 is named Titan and when I had two partitions the start up volume was named Gaia and the other Uranos beeing the two original titans of greek mythology. Now I have just one partition.. but my LaCie pocket drive is Phoebe in memory of Gaia and Uranos.

My Power Mac G4/2x500 at work is Mercury since its heart used to sit in a Quicksilver.. the neme just stuck when I changed computers.

My future Power Mac G5/2x2 will probably be named Barad-dur. One piece of evil tower!

Good name for a dual G5. Too bad there is no single name for the two trees (Telperion and Laurelin).

Yevgeny- I haven't seen 2001: A Space Oddysey yet (my dad thinks it is so boring that I shouldn't be permitted to see it), but I'll try. Some people hate it, some people love it. I'll see soon enough.

BTW, am I seeing a quadruple post right there?

yeah, sorry about the quadruple post. \

2001 is a slow moving film. It has some of the most amazing cinematography and directing I have ever seen in a film. Its sets and effects are absolutely mind blowing given that it was made in the 60's (makes Star Wars look like junk). Kubrick's ironic point about the loss of humaninty's humanness being necessary for our survival is incredible. Yes, it is a very slow moving film, so if you suffer from ADD or ADHD, then don't watch it. You will hate it. If you like film and like film that is used to make a point, or if you can appreciate good directing, then you should watch it although it probably won't be your favorite film. At the very least, you will catch quite alot more pop culture references.
