Perhapps the Ti book will go Ai when they have enough of the 7447 chips. I would think it all depends on sales, if sales of the Ti collapse they will be forced to update it sooner. Personally, I think the 15" is the best PB around, the 17" is just a step too far.

I'm currently on one of the old TiPBs with 1152x768 rez. So a bump to 1280x800 sounds good to me

I'm hoping for a new iPod or PowerBook tomorrow. Let's hope they did the Xserve today so that it wouldn't distract anyone from tomorrow's announcement!

Check this reader report over at MacInTouch before getting too excited about any of the above (PowerJack references this fiasco when he mentions that he still has eleven of those "damn tables" left):

I notice the shipping time for the iPod's ac adapter is 7-10 days and there are only 5 left on Amazon. Could this mean Apple is getting ready to ship FireWire 800 iPods that would obviously require new shapes for the ac/firewire port? Just speculation... or did I miss an announcement about ac adapter shortages?

consumer macs do not have firewire 800.... all previous consumer macs dont either and cant have it added

the iPod can not come anywhere near fw400 transfer speeds

    why causes unneccessary problems?

I thought that it would work with FW400 too, but just throttle down to 400 instead of 800. I could be wrong... O, and the iMacs don't have FW800 I believe...

Considering that no PCs have Firewire 800 (that I'm aware of) and that even some Pro Macs don't have Firewire 800 (no PowerBook currently shipping have it), I doubt we'll see Firewire 800 on the iPod.

People will probably get confused about the whole 'step down' thing or might consider the difference as bad as USB 2 to USB. The last thing Apple wants to do is make people think they can't use the iPod on their Macs or PCs.

It will probably be another year before we see an iPod with Firewire 800.

What about an included FW800-FW400 cable? I'd be all for that.

EDIT: But, ya, I agree: I don't think it's necessary to use FW800 now... after all the only thing that takes long between my cds and my ipod is the mp3 encoding...

I doubt anything else will be updated as tomorrow is midway through the week...which feels like it is flying by.

Here's a question for anyone that has ordered a Mac online and not been to the store to scope it out first. How many of you these days have dead pixel issues with a new laptop screen when you first open it up? I'm very curious about this because I'm not going to drop over $3000 on a new Power Book only to open it up the first time and see a dead pixel on the screen, or god forbid, more than one. The whole thing terrifies me because that's a lot of cash to waste on a computer that has a screen that is completely unsatisfactory. So I'm curious what you've all found in your purchasing experiences. Hopefully there won't be too many horror stories. Also, what's the word on the 15.4 having backlit keys? Thanks for your time.

My PowerBook G3 had no dead pixels at all.

My PowerBook G4 has one 'stuck' pixel. I think if I really wanted to work it out, I could. But it really doesn't bother me that much.

I guess it's important to keep dead/stuck pixels in perspective. If you're terrified of them and consider they make the screen completely unsatisfactory, I suggest you don't buy a PowerBook! I shouldn't think any store would open up box after box just to find you one with no dead/stuck pixels at all. I guess it's just the luck of the draw...
