I WILL NEVER BUY AN APPLE PRODUCT AGAIN...read why.

I purchased a wonderful working iBook G3 on December 30, 2002 from MacWarehouse, computer arrives on January 2, 2003. It has a broken keyboard, oh well no biggie called Apple and got a new one. Hard drive makes a funny noise, called Apple, and they said that this is normal for laptops (I never thought it would be, but hey...), power adapter failed and cause a short circuit in the home, and I got a new one (had to pay shipping). My iBook screen starts acting up a couple of days ago, and I come down with strep and can't call. I call yesterday and talk, they won't fix it because I am 4 days out of warranty. They said it will cost me $544-$1400 to fix the problem. Guess what, I am a student, and don't have that kind of cash. I don't care, I will never buy Apple, and my school is not purchasing any G5s this summer as we had told Apple, they just lost a $400k account because of $500. Bye Apple. Can't wait to sue their arses off.

I often wonder what the point of threads like this are. I think most people just don't know how to deal with the world. Oh well...

Jacob. It's cool to make your point and if you never purchase Apple again then that is your choice but throwing in worthless information about your school and Apple is facetious. This is not the forum for that garbage. While 400k is alot of dough do you really think Apple would let you push them around like that over an iBook repair? Not going to happen

Well thank you for your whole hearted opinions, they make a 15 year old Mac lover feel great. I don't care if you think I am a whiner, but how in a world where you are not cool if you use a Mac (at my school), and I tough it out and use a Mac, simply becauase I love it, am I supposed to recommend or defend my position when they treat their customers like this. Yes, maybe the first post and topic title was a little huffy, but it was my only way of venting, and with all the problems happending lately with the iBook and people knowing about them you guys are really understanding.

look dude you just had bad luck with your ibook. Sometimes you just get a bad one. It happens. As of being 4 days out of warrenty you should have told them that you are a loyal apple customer and you demand to speak to some one higher up. I bet if you refused to take no for an answer they would fix it. If nothing else you could tell them that you want to buy the extended warrenty which is only 150 or something and then have them fix it. If they say well you are 4 days out give them hell. You will get it fixed.

I all honesty if you are out of warrenty they don't have to fix it. Go by a dell if that is what you want but really...?

Dude it's cool to vent. The way you handle this will define how you handle future events. Trust me you'll walk down this road again(avoid high mileage cars).

I don't think you're a whiner. There are issues with the iBook and you must remain vigilant. Good luck to you hopefully the end of this ordeal is much better than the begininning.

of course, if there are known issues with the iBook, wouldn't it have been a good idea to pick up AppleCare on it for $250?

you could have done that too up until a few days ago.

If you're a student, don't you automatically get the AppleCare extended warranty, in which case it's three years long, not one (in your case Dec 2005)?

This is how it works in Australia. The only way this story works is if you didn't get the educational discount on purchase for whatever reason. Perhaps because it was from MacWarehouse, not Apple, or you forgot to tell them you were a student. Or maybe the automatic AppleCare isn't how its done in the US?

Kickaha and Amorph couldn't moderate themselves out of a paper bag. Abdicate responsibility and succumb to idiocy. Two years of letting a member make personal attacks against others, then stepping aside when someone won't put up with it. Not only that but go ahead and shut down my posting priviledges but not the one making the attacks. Not even the common decency to abide by their warning (afer three days of absorbing personal attacks with no mods in sight), just shut my posting down and then say it might happen later if a certian line is crossed. Bullshit flag is flying, I won't abide by lying and coddling of liars who go off-site, create accounts differing in a single letter from my handle with the express purpose to decieve and then claim here that I did it. Everyone be warned, kim kap sol is a lying, deceitful poster.

Now I guess they should have banned me rather than just shut off posting priviledges, because kickaha and Amorph definitely aren't going to like being called to task when they thought they had it all ignored *cough* *cough* I mean under control. Just a couple o' tools.

Don't worry, as soon as my work resetting my posts is done I'll disappear forever.

Well I finally convinced them to take it in repair, thank God for asking for someone higher up enough. Sorry for venting, and yes I do have somewhat of authority over a $400k order as I go to a Catholic school, and the person that makes the decision is a very good friend of the families, and last year when we replaced everything I was in charge of the order (we ordered 200 eMacs). So, I guess this summer when desktop purchase time comes, I will buy an Apple product. Sorry for venting.

Great news Jacob. As always when dealing with companies find the "decision maker" and apply respectfull but firm pressure.

Also, keep it in the family. Come talk to us first and we'll help you take care of the problem. Here at AppleInsider there's an abundance of knowledge and helpful people to go alone with it. But if you get all huffy and puffy before talking with us, it's already too late for us to help.

Sorry everyone, been watching too much Sopranos lately.

You also get a fair share of people that will point out things you've done wrong and how overacting never helps.

I'm curious about your power adapter failing and causing a short. You know you can't pour water on the things
