Safari 1.2 improves compatibility with websites and web applications by providing increased support for standards, adds support for personal certificate authentication, and works with Java 1.4.2 to enable websites that rely on LiveConnect for communication between JavaScript and Java applets.

This update also provides improved application stability, full keyboard access for navigating web pages, and the ability to resume interrupted downloads.

Just installed the update, can't really tell if it's fixed anything that was bugging me yet, but, lest my eyes deceive me, it does feel snappier?

Some sites that used to be very screwed up in the old Safari now work.

It does seem to be snappier. And it has resume download in the download window!

It still doesn't tab to form elements. I want to be able to tab to drop down lists, radio buttons, and check boxes. Shoot. Maybe next time.

OT: Yeah, Whedon's best work, hands down. Fox sucks. Just got the set last weekend, had a Firefly orgy for two days.

I downloaded it and the Java update. Can't exactly put my finger on it, but it feels a little bouncier. It was already MUCH more responsive than Explorer of course, but now it feels even more so. Been using it for about 45 minutes, hitting lots of sites, downloading this, tabbing that, etc.

I think I dig it quite a bit.

Here's something funny: I am only aware of ONE site I can't access (out of all the ones in my bookmarks and that I would like to). It's the site of an illustrator named Felix Sockwell (you might recognize his work from Macworld magazine over the years. Whenever I want to go to his site, I have to launch Explorer (the ONLY reason I haven't flung that piece of shit from my Mac). It's been this way since Safari was released last January.

Can some of you try the link above in Safari and confirm this? I can go to all sorts of funkier, Flash-based sites, but this one doesn't let me past his main, home page.

That's the ONLY gripe I have regarding Safari. The only one!

It seems to pause a bit more before starting to render a page, but then *fwoomp*, there it is.

Just installed it myself... Seems much faster EXCEPT entering text has slowed to a crawl! And I don't mean it sometimes hitches, it is just VERY unresponsive like right here....

It works just fine for me. NOt to sound like an ass but have you disabled pop-up blocking and reloaded the site? It has a automatic popup. It might just be something you overlooked. If you have then I have no other idea why it doesn't work for you.

Now all I need is for Pith Helmet to be updated for 1.2 and I'll be set... for now.

As for my impressions...this new version is great! A bunch of sites that would not work right before work just right now.

One site was SprintPCS.com, a site that DAve Hyatt mentioned in one of his blogs. It works right without any caching issues. There are the obvious other little things here and there.

REsumable downloads(nice implementation with the temporary icon showing how far along in the download it actually is), LiveConnect support, and all the other little things.

    Nice work guys!

I haven't tried this so I am not sure if it works but I saw this on the MacNN forums. Hopefully it works out for you.

Pith Helmet Fix For Safari 1.2:

    open /Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins/

Right click (control+click) PithHelmet.bundle and select show package contents

Open the Contents folder and from there open the info.plist file in either textedit or Property List Editor if you have the dev tools installed

Find where it says MaxSafariBundleVersion and change the value to 125

Save and restart safari. thats it, now it works.
