I'm speechless. I just woke up, and checked Apples' site for the day's slogan, and it totaly made my jaw drop. What are the big rumors now anyway? I've been doubting mostly everything I've seen so far because it's ludicris &lt;-(spelling). The only thing I believe is The Flat iMac, and that Newton could come back, Right Fran?   <img src="graemlins/smokin.gif" border="0" alt="[Chilling]" />

Ok so we can imagine any dreams... mmh.

    First : GigaWire

Second : 3G Mobile Phone (High Speed Internet Wireless) - Remember rumours about Apple / Nokia / Ericsson ?

Third : the Red Box of Rhapsody

Four: Raycer Chip for 3D and Aqua

    Five: Apollo and G5

    Six: MPEG 4 and Quicktime

    First & Two & Six

for the consumer: Maybe we'll see all product upgrade with an iCom / iTV apps. All Mac with Mobile Phone & TV Function (SMS, WAP, Phone, Fax, 3G Wireless Internet, Video Conf, Video on demand, Streaming). *** the true Mobile Solution***

for the pro: all of the above + clustering solutions

Third: the Red Box... Maybe it's time to attack MS on his territory

Four: True 3D on the Mac like SGI product and better

Five: this one everybody knows ...

    What do u think ?

[quote]And if it's FireWire2, Apple would be INCREDIBLY stupid to change the connector! What are you gonna do with all your FireWire harddisks and CD burners? FireWire2 would have the same connector as FireWire1, just as it is with USB1 and 2.<hr></blockquote>

no. there is a new connector. wake up, dude.

RedBox? Isn't , or, wasn't that to run windows on your mac? I don't wan't it. Lets come up with something better. Oops... They already did: OS X. 10.1.2

I remember the old AI when we all specilated about the iTab, X-Newton, or the iBook/iTab rolled into one, similar to the old Clio' . What happened? <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

...all right, a Mac OS X driven webcast QT video set top box, that bumped by RedBox will run on 2GHz Itanium embedded, handwriting controlled wireless GigaFireWire and it will wear a mini skirt and a blonde wig. :o

My best guess is the start of AppleTV, sort of video-on-demand-webcast. That way we could watch Steve the whole day breeding new Apples and easter eggs.

Consumers will be bound to the BlueBox running on embedded 604 chips for sure.

I bet my name is Christina Aguilera and I'll sing "What a girl wants (AI Edit Remix)" the 7th , but they will not deliver.......

Really a nice iMac is all that needs to get out in the first place and some more hardware when Moto/IBM get it done.

Let me just point out I'm trying to add more fuel to the fire here. I'm not expecting to buy anything that shows up at MWSF. If there is something that I absolutely need to buy, then that's how I'll be 'wowed'.

Apple is talking about something that is "big, even for us." just take a good look at what apple considers to be big: their resume includes the invention of the PC, the re-invention of the PC with the Macintosh, the iMac is the revisiting and revamping of the PC patadigm.

These are the things that apple considers to be big. Imac and digital hub (OS X / iPod) are the latest that we have be shown regarding this new approach.

It will probably be something that (once again) changes the way that we think about and use computers.

This may include a new imac, but Im tempted to think that there is much more to it.

As good as that sounds on the surface, wouldn't that detract from Mac spacific programming? We are gaining a great # of developers right now with X and unix. just go to <a href="http://www.sourceforge.com/"; target="_blank">SourceForge</a>, and see fore your self. I think at this juncture it could undermine efforts to gain developers. If that were the case I disapprove of a RedBox right now. I'm sure Gamers would hang me, but they would probably thank me in the long run. <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />

But if the Mac can run the Windows apps without skipping a beat, what's the problem?

Doesn't Apple currently have lawsuits pending against them from stockholders who claimed they over-hyped the last (don't know when) event when they promised great new products and didn't deliver and it harmed shareholders stock prices????

If I remember correctly and that's true, then I would expect they MUST have some truly awesome announcements coming or they really jeopardize losing those pending suits and will have more coming.

So I for one expect some big announcements.

My bet is they are overhyping the reinvention of the iMac. You remember how it saved Apple a while back. With decent pricing, and a serious price drop on CRT models Apple could spark Nasdaq into an uproar, and save the economy!

It's from a firm who said that Apple 'hyped' its products to sell them, which drove up the stock price. It was the products they hyped, not the event. Apple's stock goes up and down like most companies do, and this past year has been poor for the stock market (I know, its an understatement).

This is just some short term investors whining about how they invested in Apple and the stock went down. The price of the stock now, however, is higher than when they purchased it. (It's done well in the past few weeks).

This won't make an impact one way or another.

Yes, but wouldn't you say they are hyping upcoming product releases with this little countdown, not just the event. That is what I read out of it.

We will all be looking to MS, and Winblows for our programming, and programs, and you know where they wan't that to go. .Net. All Java, Objective C, C, and BSD Unix, will be lost to us, and extinct if they have their way, and Apple will die with it. Still sound good? <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

My memory must be a little shaky, here is an article from the register on "one" of these lawsuits.

    ..................................................

A fourth set of lawyers seeking irate shareholders has crept out the woodwork to sue Apple for allegedly misleading investors.

Law firm Cauley Geller Bowman & Coates this week filed a financial misrepresentation suit against Apple in Washington, following similar suits from Schiffrin & Barroway, Charles Piven and Milberg Weiss.

All four class-actions accuse Apple of over-egging its Power Mac G4, Cube and iMac puddings by over-optimistic claims on sales and performance.

As evidence of Apple's alleged misrepresentation, the suits cite the example of four company executives who sold a shedload of AAPL shares soon after said machines were announced in July 2000 and Apple's stock was changing hands for up to $64 a pop. They made a total of $22 million on the sale.

However, after Apple announced that Q3 2000 sales were well below expectations, its share-price fell to around $13, leaving investors who had bought stock on or after 19 July with significant losses.

Apple - like all other publicly listed companies - issues caveats to cover itself against such accusations, though this time it won't be helped by the apparently advantageous executive share sales. The implication made by the lawsuits is clear: that the executives knew that sales wouldn't meet expectations, a fact that would harm the company's share price, and were selling shares while they could.

    ..................................................

While it isn't the main part of the suit, over-hyping performance is mentioned. Sorry if I was slighyly askew with my brain functions (hey you should've seen how many brain cells i killed on new year's eve).

Most programs are written in Microsoft compilers. That's not going to change, unfortunately. But it's better to run the Windows apps then to continue to have arguments of 'no software' destroy the platform. Imagine if all Windows apps could run in Mac OS X. Add in the Mac apps, and you have more apps for the Mac than you do for PCs!
