I have to take it on holidays for Easter... but it's gone after that, just in time for the new ones. I'll have my data on the PowerBook by then...

Yay, another fun peak in the murbot cycle.

    I hope you're wrong too

Let's quote that link you posted:

ThinkSecret is also chiming in on the August PowerBooks:

The hardware projects, known internally as Q16 and Q41, consist of upgrades to the 15-inch and 17-inch PowerBook G4. The projects were scheduled to complete in the first part of August.

Q16 and Q41 will run a Jaguar OS variant code-named Blackrider. Like Smeagol, the build train for the Power Mac G5, Blackrider is a special version of Mac OS X 10.2.7 with hardware support for the new models.

Think Secret has not chimed in yet in the here and now. More doubt is cast on the Powerpage's validity. If Powerpage is indeed right, they've increased their credibility.

I believe that whole white spot problem is all but rectified. But should this be just a "speed bump" type rev., my guess is that not much will change.

I may be wrong (perhaps someone has a better memory), but don't revisions rarely see major component changes. I mean, yes a larger or faster drive, but nothing like a new display technology.

I can see going to a brighter and slicker display and additional goodies for the new G5 model when and if it ever surfaces.

    .

White spot problem is all but rectified. The issue with half the screen being dim at anything but the highest brightness levels has not. I am hoping for a speed bump plus fixing some minor details.. essentially a Rev B type upgrade.

    Yeah,

But now it's "as soon as this week." I'm sorry, but someone who runs a "news" site should have the capacity for proofreading, and stop waffling around the subject. As well, I can't wait for a "table Mac" either.

Maybe he's a leak patsy for Apple these days.

    *sigh*

    Yeah, no doubt.

Yesterday: Apple will be releasing new PowerBook G4s this week.

Today: In addition to the forthcoming PowerBook G4 update, due as soon as this week, ...

Hit generating mofos. Tomorrow it will be "In addition to the forthcoming April PowerBook G4 update..."

Subscribers to the "any hit is a good hit" line of thinking maybe?

Well, the PowerPage has posted a follow-up story, PowerBook Speed Bumps Delayed today.

    Quote:

Despite our best efforts to bring you accurate information about PowerBook announcements, our piece last week on the expected PowerBook revisions due last week was a tad premature. Although the expected PowerBook G4 speed bumps did not get announced last week a reliable PowerPage source has informed me that the speed bumped PowerBook G4s (note: they are not going to be G5s) should be announced within the next week or two - give or take a few days. Stay tuned to the PowerPage for updates as the week progresses...

I guess another "week or two" is not going to hurt me.

    Hope springs eternal.

Remember, kids: Nothing is harder to predict than a release date. They're completely arbitrary.

Yeah, but I'm betting this guy is wading in Meader territory (ie, no "sources", no true info, etc.). Now it's "cya" damage control.

"Uh, well they were SUPPOSED to be here last week - heaven knows I talked it up enough on my site - but that didn't pan out. Now my sources say that there was a shortage of screens, processors, FireWire ports, little round power buttons, the bitchin' styrofoam box inserts and 'Option' and the letter "R" keys...so we're DEFINITELY looking a 1-2 week delay, give or take a month...stay tuned for the latest!"

    Thanks. I guess...

I don't think that's anything you'll have to worry about. Believe it or not, Apple has been known to go quite a while between product updates and announcements. SHOCKING, but true!

Ahem...just ask, oh, the G5. Or the displays. Or maybe an iMac? They'll tell ya...

Yeah, that's why it pays to be smart and pay attention to release dates/cycles, keep an ear pointed toward some of the more serious and historically accurate rumor sites (ThinkSecret and AppleInsider are two of the best, IMO) and listen to what's being talked about here and other forums. Note which items have being included in special promotions and rebates, or being given nice price cuts.

You wouldn't go buy a car or major appliance blindly or without getting your background and facts all together first.

    Same here.

I don't think ANYONE is buying anything right now because it's been so dry and quiet for three months!

Good point. But with these new G4's coming out, which I hope is not just a false rumor, I will definately be buying an upgraded 15" superdrive powerbook.

    One month.....

15" Superdrive eh? Is that like a resurgance in the Laserdisc format? "Now we can hold 15 gigs on one dvd! It may be bigger than my desk, but hey, 15 gigs!" Naw, that is what I plan to buy as well.

With the exception of additions to an existing line. See the case of 12" and 17" Powerbooks. I am not sure if a Powerbook G5 could be an addition though.
