It is crap-tacular. A combination of crappy and spectacular. Tasticular is just a bad spelling of an adjective describing.. well I really don't want my first post on the boards to be pornographic.
That's testicular, not tasticular. Gotta keep the nardology correct.
Do you get Apple at all? When the PowerMac G5s came out they had some of the fastest video available, the fastest processor (arguably) in a desktop, one of the fastest buses in all the world, but because they aren't Dull with 8000 different configurations and drivers that f*** up other things in the system or flat out do not work, you are upset. Then go buy a $499 Dull and deal with the issues and viri and the like.
Apple probably will never be on the bleeding edge of (video mostly) support, but the reasons are obvious and understandable.
Jeez.
Haha, yeah most people who are in the price-range of upgrading to a Power Mac G5 will instead look into a $500 Dell. From what I understand onlooker would be going Pro workstation either way, probably BOXX or the like. Driver issues vary from company to company, and yes I've had "driver issues" on Macs. Less often but it happens.
As far as viruses, any former Mac users should continue using their machines for internet and mail and leave a (Windows) workstation to doing work. That leaves the chance of catching a virus very low.
But anyway, yeah onlooker. You are setting yourself up for a big disappointment. Seems in other threads you are expecting from Apple thing they have never delivered. Seriously, if you need high-end 3D (?) why not just buy a x86 workstation instead of yelling at Apple?
Oh and its 1:45 Central, where those speed bumps at?

If you bought those demo's they were doing sure go ahead, and believe that, but when I read what the independent tests were comparing them to I realized that #1 they didn't have fastest processor (arguably) in a desktop. It was all for show, and it wasn't a very good one either.

That statement should read as follows: Apple probably will never be on the bleeding edge of ANYTHING at the rate they are going. And I say that is not understandable. Why do anything if you can't do it as well as what is expected of you.
If it is Apples position to lag behind their competitors throughout history they can keep the Macs they build for themselves. But some of us are wiling to help them through to the next evolutionary step, by doing our work on Macs and letting it be known that it wouldn't be as good on anything else. But that is not the case at the moment. It's better elsewhere right now, and I just don't want it to remain that way. Of course if they are content with being the well known lagger they can remain finger painting on cave walls with their own feces for all I care, but I'm not going to recommend a Mac to anyone the way they are now.
blah blah blah....Apple's aren't on the bleeding edge of anything......blah blah blah
Ok, I guess iPods (#1 digital music player), iTunes (#1 Downloadable music source), Airport Express (find anything else like it), iLife (try and find a better multimedia suite), Superdrives (who else offered DVD burning way back when), etc etc etc are not the kinds of things that drive an industry.
They will always have fast graphics cards and fast systems. They may not be the FASTEST, but I bet they are plenty fast for your use. BTW, what are you using right now?

Perhaps they are, but I think his/her point is well taken that Apple needs to avoid compromises in its "Pro" systems if they are to win new hearts and minds and hemorrhage the loss of the faithful.
To this end, they should always be offering the absolute best graphics card as standard on the top-end (let people configure it down if they want, not the other way around). We will see what happens in the next batch... hopefully Apple's PCIe implementation is ready to go. Their dedication to this area thus far has been non-existant. The HD's options are somewhat anemic (in terms of size, speed and bays) as well. Apple needs to consider lowering it profit margin even further. Going all dual is a great step I think.
As an aside... They also need to have the best and latest 3D game(s) available (UT2004 is a good start) sitting on the desktop of Apple Retail Store Powermac Demo Machines (configured with the aforementioned graphics card) ready to go.

Well your right about that. I'll give you that.
But my complaint's about PowerMacs not matching up competitively is still my gripe, and I stand by it.
BTW, you shouldn't do that. That is not a quote, and you included my name in it as if to suggest that those are my words in which they are not.

I can see on ultra high-end (ultra brand-new is more appropriate) that Apple lags. The only way I see that happening is for Apple to dedicate more resources to the coding of the ATI/nVidia drivers for those new cards. I am sure ATI and nVidia are more Wintel focussed anyway, and I have no clue if that could affect Apple's position on the totem pole.
I still have a hard time swallowing that Apple is going to have both 1.6/1.8Dual/2.0Dual systems concurrently with 1.8Dual/2.0Dual/2.5Dual systems and discounting the "old" 1.8Dual and 2.0Dual systems. There really isn't any difference between old and new for them to do that.
There is a foul air about....and TS is sucking in very deeply....
Yes TS blew it. Sometimes I wonder if Apple releases these info's them selves to see what would we (mac users) biatche about if they released this, or that, and possibly to see what we are hoping, and looking for in future PowerMacs, or just from Apple in general.
They could learn a lot from this forum. Although like any forum some of the stuff in here is just stupid.

Stupid or sick?
First, sorry for the inclusion of the blah blah blahs earlier. I meant for them to be outside the quotes, but I digress.....
I think Apple perceived a leak at, to quote TS, "Apple Corporate" and this was a good test to weed out the vermin. Probably worked too, as TS has not really mentioned anything new, other than to throw in the proverbial 20/23/30" LCD are coming too, and maybe Quads, we heard about that too, blurbs.
I agree with onlooker. Apple needed 3GHz 6 months ago. If you look at benchmarks using various apps like photoshop, games, SPEC etc.. using the fastest available processors, this is the picture you usually get from <$5000 systems.
Opteron > Xeon > Athlon64 > P4 > G5 > AthlonXP
Onlooker, I'd wait until WWDC (or whenever these new G5s come out) before judging against Apple and getting a BOXX system (or building your own).
The highest-end G5 configuration, at 2.5GHz, will include dual 1.25GHz frontside buses and will reportedly ship with an ATI Radeon 9600 XT graphics card (128MB); the other models will include an NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Ultra card (64MB).
-and-
Standard hard drive sizes will be relatively unchanged; the 2.5GHz and 2GHz models will ship with a 160GB hard drive and 512MB of RAM, while the dual and single-processor 1.8GHz units will include an 80GB drive and 256MB of RAM. Most aspects of the Power Mac G5 will apparently not see significant changes, according to information obtained by Think Secret.
----
So... It took them a year for this? A freakin year? What the hell have they been doing all this time? There is more to a new model than processor speed alone but apparently they have done nothing the past twelve months except sit on their asses and wait for IBM. And what's up with the downgrade to the video card on the top model? No wonder they are delaying the announcement. They want to enjoy the good press from the Airport Express announcement before the ball drops. Maybe they are all selling their shares today in anticipation.*
* Comments based on ThinkSecret article which may very well be bullshit.
also changed his information on the webpage. it was updated today, but instead of leaving in the old info and putting an addition at the bottom, he wiped out most of the old info(including the tuesday announcment and changed it to 'this week')

From what I hear, 802.11g is very like it.
