To attach your iSight to the new displays, Apple now offers a magnetic mounting solution. This stand is available in new iSight boxes this summer, and included in the iSight Accessory Kit.
Unless they say otherwise, all they will do is offer a magnetic mount in addition to other accessories in iSight boxes this summer. They will probably begin shipping the new boxes in a few weeks to coincide with the 20" and 23" release.
What graphics card would be suitable if you wanted to use a dual 20-inch setup?
is that NVIDIA 6800 graphics card the only one that can power that type of setup?
No the new Nvidia card is only required for the 30". Nothing new is needed for the lower models.
Quote:
System reqirements (for 20" / 23")
One of the following:
Power Mac G4 or G5 with NVIDIA graphics card or ATI Radeon 7500 or better graphics card and Mac OS X v10.2.8 or later
Duals would just require a card with both ADC and DVI (AND multi-headed), and an ADC-to-DVI converter if you want everything to remain digital. I'm sure there is some multi-head card with a ADC/DVI and a VGA socket, then you would need a VGA-to-DVI converter.
From what I can gather, you are no longer able to turn on the computer by using the monitor power button. It's been a while since Apple disabled the capability to start up the computer via the keyboard or Powermate.
How many people out there placed their PowerMac G4 or G5 under their desks/behind something? Am I the only one who will now have to sacrifice crucial desk space so that I can now access the PowerMacs power button? Or should I buy a leftover previous generation 20"? Hmm.
Every heard of the OnCue? Its worked on my upgraded Digital Audio in Jaguar. Haven't tested it recently though.
Is that uber-cable fixed to the back of the display? I dislike monitors you can't remove every cable from. Dangling cables make moving and installing a pain, IMHO.
I've pretty much made my mind up on the 23" and it will be connecting to my Shuttle. However what was brought up earlier is something I would like to find out and yes I also 'prefer' devices that you can plug/unplug stuff from whenever you need to.
Can any one confirm if the 'all in one cable' is built-in or removable?
Thanks!
Edit" I guess we won't know for a couple weeks maybe, but any one have any idea of dimentions of the packing (boxes) - for the 23" my guess is maybe +4" all around (internal paddding) and ohh 10 - 15" thick maybe more...

Tbh I would imagine that any of the current cards out there (ATi/nVidia) would work BUT you would need a dual DVI card (not dual dual DVI....) or an ADC - DVI converter (so you have two DVI ports now).
Now afaik in the Mac scene the 6800 Ultra is the only (?) Dual DVI card (not to mention it is also Dual Dual DVI lol - but that is not important here). I guess for some one on the PC side a GF4 Ti 4800 (dual DVI) card would work as well with 128MB:
16.7M colors is 2^24 hence so the amount of RAM used for each display attached:
20" - (1680*1050*24)/(8*1024) = 5163KB or 5.04MB
23" - (1920*1200*24)/(8*1024) = 6750KB or 6.59MB
30" - (2560*1600*24)/(8*1024) = 12000KB or 11.72MB
So the bottom line - as stated by Apple:
Quote:
Power Mac G4 or G5 with NVIDIA graphics card or ATI Radeon 7500 or better graphics card and Mac OS X v10.2.8 or later
is needed to run either the 20/23" displays and they can even do duals (as I have shown above) - it is only the 30" that needs the 6800 Ultra but if you are buying your machine newly it would be a good idea to maybe snag this card as it offers a bit of headroom for the future (dual 30")
On a different note, seems like the only hi-res dual DVI (ohh boy it is getting confusing now!) card is the Matrox Parhelia HR256 costing US$ 2,495 and this doesn't even support DDL on 'one' DVI connector, instead it only supports ONE display on two
Way to go Apple for releasing such a great card at an attractive price!

Not exactly.

New Boxes != New iSight
