where are you guys comeing up with 2.2 ghz for the 970MP? First marketing wise apple would never release a new high end computer product that has less clock speed than their old high end, no matter how many of these they stick in there. Second IBM themselfs said a few months ago when they first talked about dual core that the chip would be 3ghz+. I wouldnt be suprised if they slapped us with a 3.5...they need to make up for thier 3ghz promise a YEAR ago anyway

jsnuff1 think 2.2ghz dual core is closer to realtiy than a 3ghz dualcore g5.Only unless Apple is goin to make watercooling standard cooling now.

Ok then Thomaz. If most motherboards have 4 PCI-E card slots give me a link to two of them, and I'll shut up about it.

There's a virtual salad bar of circuitry that you can fit into a $3000 aluminum box.

Ok, you provided the boards. I'm a believer. But what about cards? What kind of cards can you use with this board?

The big difference compatibility wise between PCI-E, and PCI-X is PCI-X can use both a PCI-X, and PCI card. PCI-E AFAIK is not backward compatible in any way. That is why the more popular boards from Tyan, and Asus offer 2-PCI-E 16X slots, and then 3-PCI-X, and a 1, or 2- PCI thusly giving your computer maximum compatibility with the majority of cards on the market.

So how many kinds of cards are being made with PCI-E. As I said I'm a believer, but I'm still not finding anything but graphics cards.

Well i heard cerative lab's is suppose to be making there next gen sound card PCiE,I supect scsi card and scsi chip makers will be goin to PCiE.there gigabit lan cards, other soundcard chip makers are working on or have a pCIE supporting sound chips,I think the realtek chip In intel new onboard codac standerd is a pciE chip but it onboard and linked with a pciE link.Alot of onboard chipmakers in the pc market are moveing to support pciE.But mostly onboard soultions.Tyan is a good company but there in the workstation and server market mostly and only afew times they every come out to the consumer market. They have made a 9700Pro card is was great card but then well that was the last card they made.

I too only really see only video cards and well it makes only sence to really at this time.Between last gen and this gen there pretty much a 2x fold in perfomace in the topend and there finally something worth upgrading to if u are a few gen back like me.I have a gf4ti4400 and for 150 to 200 dollars there nothing in the last gen in that price range. my card faster than a fx5200ultra,5500,5600,hold it own vs a 5700 in dx 8.1 gamming and ati 9600pro only has the dx9 feats but it runs about as fast in pure speed as mine.So giving that this is a big time for pc gammers to upgrade the ageing video cards and have great speed in our games. Then there no agpx8 support with pciE.So anyone that get a new intel system there no agp slot and anyone that buys the new opteron with pci there no agp and anyone buys Amd+NF4 chipset there no agp and if apple move to support pciE even if it has one pciE x1 slot and all pci X in it if they put a agp slot in it it will really be a 33mhz x32bit PCi slot(133mb).

If the ART PURE cards were in a PCIe version, and if they could crunch CoreX data, then the return path would be handy...

The rest was just pure (no pun intended) spec-whoring...!

    Cheers!

THe pure card is interesting, and I wish I was at MWSF to actually see it, and try it in action, but I'm not sure what to make of it at this point. I cant figure out if it is a whole package, or if there are some things that may still need software render, or what. I am interested though, and I hope they don't loose faith in these cards because it seems not many have actually seen them in action therefore the consumer awareneess, and faith in the product may still be small, and upgrading to a newer slot type for the future may seem like it's useless to them.

As it is though I'd still rather have a Dual Quadro FX setup, rather than a dual PURE setup, and that just because of the reasons I mentioned earlier.

NV Quadro's is coming to mac? After seen the doom 3 performace and reading about apple osX being weak in opengl.

Another question why apple make nvidia drivers and ati's?U would think NV/ati would be better making the drivers because its after all there hardware.Nv/ati makes there own drivers for windows/linux.

I think PC procs are starting to come out with lower GHz ratings, but faster/more efficient overall computation. If a 2.2GHz dual core is as fast or faster than the 2.5GHz single core, then I'd expect Apple to use that first to give them room to upgrade later and keep the machine fresh (so-to-speak, 9 months old isn't all that fresh)

I think I've heard other people saying that chip makers are starting to pull out of the GHz race and wise up about getting more out of each tick

Nvidia gives Apple the same source code everyone else gets. ATI writes all their own drivers.

Even if Nvidia did write drivers I don't think they could keep up with Apples monthly software updates.

That kinda suxs for u guys don't it?Ati updates there drivers monthly fixing the bugs in games and other tweeking.Same as the Firegl cards.Nvidia slowed down on how fast they bring a new driver out.but they still fix and boost the performace of thier cards.

nVidia doesn't have a specific Mac team; they might consider it more efficient to just write common code and then let Apple extrapolate from there.

Also... could you please write in, you know, English? :P

Seriously, it hurts my mind to try and decipher what you're writing, and it's harder still to consider your posts authoritative. Please take the extra time to write "you." Also, remember this:

"there" = place ("we went there on vacation")

"their" = plural possessive ("their vacation was great")

    Thanks.
