No. I love my job. It's great. I just have a handful of gripes I dramatize for entertainment purposes. Right now I'm posting on the Internet, doing some goofy Photoshop chops and blasting indie rock. Where the hell else would I get to do that?
(No blogs for me. My family members all post on a message board and we like to trade work horror stories. My oldest sister posts stories about her young kids that have me laughing for hours.)
Poor groverat. Any chance you can downsize your underling and reimburse yourself 50% of his salary for the additional workload you take on from his duties? That would still save your U the other half of his salary and would not lead to any appreciable decline in the amount of tech support offered on the whole by your dept if he is as incompetent as you say. No, I thought not.

as for me, i too managed to survive as a 'rebel' in my own way working in web design in san francisco 2000-2002 (my first full time job) and then saying f8ck it and then going back to australia in 2003 working for a non-profit
some days were good times, some days i just ignored the losers that f*cked with my shit. in fact, in some cases being in your early 20s people *ADMIRE* your energy and determination when you tell them to go f*ck themselves. bonus points if you do a good job and assertive in a reasonable manner without sounding like an asshole...
at one stage i in san fran days after september 11 (i am a malysian citizen, australian green-card holder, ethnically half-chinese, half-indian, new-age-ish in spiritual beliefs, light brown skin) a big black guy in my office and another tall white guy were saying how they needed to blow up muslims in the middle east and stuff... or somethin like that, and i had to just say, could you take this discussion outside...
i am 26 now, so when i was 21-25 or so i could put up with this office politics shite in san fran and sydney, because those cities are awesome and i had some fun times *and* i never believed working in 'the web' would actually be a career path for me, i always thought it a fun hobby...
but somehow a year+ ago i started losing my confidence and just couldn't put up with this kind of office shite anymore, tried going freelance and my design work was good enough to start doing some good advertising-marketing work, but jesus christ i couldn't get away with shit, because people in those lines come every few hours expecting you to have pulled award winning graphic design (as they would judge it) out of your ass every few hours...!!
so i am living with my parents now in malaysia recovering and reconsidering. thanks for listening
