I think both the x800 and 6800 are equal. when it gets this good, does it really matter? The X800 is a more efficient card, the 6800 has more features. I suspect the 6800ultra is marginally more powerful overall, but you pay the extra price of it needing to be connected to 2 molex's to run. While the x800 is smaller, uses less juice, but is the pinnacle of the previous generation, while the 6800 is the start of a new generation. the ability to SLI, though makes the cards attractive for the right software.

THAT'S RIGHT,ATI-MAN! THAT IS RIGHT! The 6800 is the start of a new generation! A generation of greatness! The age old question has been answered. And the answer is.....NVIDIA!

    ATI

The extra speed of Nvidia (which is slight at that) isn't worth losing a PCI slot.

And you seemed to have missed "last generation". Stuck in the past. We're in a new generation, a generation in which nVidia will DOMINATE ALL!!!!

i talked to the the dell store the other day and guess what they said? they use ati also. so lets see that makes most of apple, most of dell, and plenty of other systems. i guess ATI is just for people with a brain. which would explain why nvidia has so many idiot users.

ATI fanboys are just as stupid as any other fanboys, perhaps even more so. Who cares what the hell is in their computer, as long as it runs nicely and doesn't vent noxious fumes. I'm tired of people being hopelessly devoted to a single company.

Who give a shit what dell says? Dell sux. Also as I understand it the whole reason nVidia came about is because of the failures of ATI. Thats because ATI IS FOR FAILURES!

Lets add up all the factors. nVidia is used as the graphic chipset in the Xbox, the system everyone around here is always praising. Even Micro$hit in all their stupidity realizes the greatness of nVidia. And what is the only system that uses ATI? Thats right, the gamecube. That system is so worthless it doesnt even deserve to be capitalized.

And Sony will be using an nVidia based graphics chipset in the PS3,which will rule the day. nVidia graphic cards are also recommended for Doom 3. Dont you play Doom 3,ati-man?

companies sometimes pay to have a video cards name go with their game. in the case of doom 3 they simply paid to have the association. if you run a 9600 ati it will run the same as a 6800 nvidia as far as graphics are concerned. so if you were to run it on an x800 ati it would easily whip an nvidia card.

as far as the systems are concerened. that seems to be your only ammo for this debate. you keep telling me how the game cube this and xbox that. well who cares? we are talking about computers. no one cares about those game systems. ps2 is the best one anyway

What?! Was it not just said earlier in the thread that the 6800 Ultra beats the x800?

I quoted it again just so you'd remember. So how the hell do you think an ati 9600 can beat the 6800 Ultra?

    Benchmarks

Above is are benchmarks the pit the 6800 Extreme and the x800 xt platinum against each other. Read 'em and weep ati-man!

    ATi . Sucks . For . Driver . Support . Especially . On . Mac

Was it worth the extra $100 for me to get the 6800U over the x800? Yes.

Don't understand why? Wait 3 years.

Unless Apple's making the x800 drivers by then, 10.5 will function on a low-end tasks only basis with the x800.

I'm really worried about my Radeon 9200 PCI, I think I'll minimize my liabilities at this point.

The double molex thing is really annoying though.. I really don't see how it's necessary since Apple's card was 12" (could've just added more blowers inline like on the 5950).. I guess they wanted a higher margin.

I'd rather have the added Open GL support given to me by the NVidia though

    linky linky

Lots of fanboys in this thread *cough* ATI-MAN *cough*, we should just weigh the pros and cons, and not overlook history (ati hates apple) or practicality (dual molex is annoying).

Thank you Slughead for your wonderful insight on the matter.

And there you have it folks. War's over, nVidia wins

And the PS3 is going to use a custom nVidia chipset. And since

the Playstation dominates all consoles, just like it always has and always will, that's all that matters. That Sony sees the light.
