What makes the Xbox360 worth the price? Especially given that you'll get the assurance of 90% of studio movie support when buying the PS3 as well as huge catalog of games. Not to mention I beleive the hard drive capacity of the high end Xbox360 (20GB and $599 with HD DVD add-on) is the same capacity hard drive that is found in the less pricey/lower end PS3 (20GB and $499) when compared to a comparitively equipped high end Xbox 360, so there is added value in this regard for the lower end PS3 as well.

This is my hangup on your entire argument. You state that the PS3 price is too high, but for a comparitively equipped Xbox360, you have no qualms as to the price? Can you say double standard?

what makes it the other way around? i dont need to buy a bluray or hd-dvd drive right now, nor do i need hdmi, my tv doesn't support it at the momment.

where do you get this ps3 huge catalog from? you do realize a majority of its exclusives have now gone to the 360 right? or have you not also realized that it might still lose exclusives to the xbox? lol, or maybe that the 360 is actually securing major titles as we speak?

the line up of games is actually tilted in the favor of microsoft, where have you been? come outside of the apple forum, you'll realize it very quickly.

the only thing ps3 is still hanging on to is tekken, virtue fighter, msg4 (which might leave not be exclusive), final fantasy(which again might not be exclusive) and GT. those are the biggest titles they have as of now vs microsofts exclusives of mass effect, froza 2, bioshock, halo3,

halo wars, fable 2, gears of war, splinter cell

and the only thign announced from the rockstar camp at this point is that GTA will have exclusive downloadable content for the 360, if the ps3 does not get this, that is a huge blow considering grand theft auto practically won last generations battle for the ps2.

Terwilliger announced HD DVD title "One Six Right, The Romance of Flying

    Quote:

HD DVD takes to the skies with the first release from indie distributor Terwilliger Productions, the aviation documentary 'One Six Right: the Romance of Flying.'

Filmed completely in 1080p high-def video, the aerial doc starring Sydney Pollack, Tony Bill and Lorenzo Lamas will make its HD DVD debut with a 1080p/VC-1 transfer, Dolby Digital-Plus soundtrack and a trio of exclusive HD extras, including an extended sequence, 12-minute movie montage and new original music from Enya

BTW for those that don't know NEC makes the HD DVD drive in the Toshiba A1. Good to see them branching out though as NEC is a huge corp that should be exploring all potential avenues.

    Here Comes Blu-ray

    http://www.hometheaterforum.com/bluray/index.html

    Some memorable quotes from article...

    Quote:

What I saw this evening was VERY impressive! We watched scenes from Ice Age II, The Day After Tomorrow, and Ridley Scott's 3-hour director's cut of Kingdom Of Heaven, the first 50GB release from the studio.

I'll be damned if I saw any imperfections in the quality of the displayed picture in the parts we got to see. As far as I'm concerned, the image quality was just as stunning as stuff I have seen on HD-DVD. Furthermore, the Java based interactive content and menu controls that we viewed on The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen looked just as impressive as some of the new content being put on new HD-DVD Universal titles such as Fast & Furious 2: Tokyo Drift.

    Quote:

Fox has already announced that it plans to have 40-50 Fox/MGM titles available for release by year's end. It should be noted that 7 of the 8 major studios are on Blu-Ray. The lone exclusive HD-DVD studio is Universal while Fox, Disney, Sony and MGM plus Lionsgate are exclusive to Blu-Ray.

    Quote:

Doctorow announced that MGM has 1000 titles already transferred to high definition and ready to go on Blu-Ray. This library includes titles from the likes of Orion, United Artists and AIP. Fox is proudly touting that with MGM at its side, there are now 6,000 titles at their disposal.

The players are still 2x as much money.

No one said that Blu-Rays video quality or menus would be inferior to HD DVD. To this day I'm amazed that people keep bringing this issues up. Blu-Ray was supposed to be better than HD DVD in every way. No people are going out of their way to state that Blu-Ray looks as good as the best HD DVD they've seen. LOL ...what a turn of events. Speaks volumes about how much Toshiba has shaken things up.

And this will last what,...about 5 more weeks with the release of the PS3? Also, you keep throwing out this broad statement when the high end 2nd generation HD DVD player that actually compares to the hardware in the Blu-ray players to come out later this month is the SAME price which is $999.

And again, what then when the PS3 ships in a few more weeks and sells 16 times more units at launch than Toshiba has been able to in 6 months at the same price? So enjoy your 2x more money agument for the next few weeks, because it's going bye-bye, much like HD DVD by 2008. BTW, notice which discs are cheaper lately??? Yup, Blu-ray.

and what if the ps3 fails? then what? what if it doesn't push blu-ray out the door?

you put way too much faith into sony and its playstation 3

sony stock prices have dropped over conerns of ps3 overheating and restarting issues at the tokyo game show. some say it might have been how the ps3 was enclosed, but shouldn't reps from sony have placed the system in an environment where enough ventilation would be provided? ha, beats me, but i bet its no worse than wehre some kids placed their 360's that were having issues.

like i've said in here before, if sony and the ps3 end up having recalls, and heating issues, its going to spell doom for the company...

Yeah, that turned out not to be true.

Let's be honest. MGS and Final Fantasy are going to be PS3 exclusive. You realize that Japan has sold all of 5 XBOX 360's, right?

The only XBOX game of those that I think anyone cares about is Halo, and, well, they own that.

The winner will be the one who can get out the cheapest HD players. Most ppl don't care which is the better quality. Lets face it both are going to be better than DVD anyway.

Yup but that's a game system and not a STB dedicated player. A true "apples to apples" comparison will require a comparable STB dedicated BD player. Consoles are competitive initially but the PS3 will be usurped in quality rather quickly IMO.

I'm certain that the PS3 will sell in the millions but the unknown variable is how many gamers will want to buy/rent a lot of movies.

There is indeed a $999 Toshiba HD-XA2 however that box has improved DACs, Analog multichannel outputs, Bi-directional RS-232 for automation/Crestron/etc controllers. I frankly don't care much about the HDMI 1.3 which is really useless right now. The 1080p output is markitecture as well but all in all it's a solid unit for those that need the extra features.

It's not just the gamers who watch the movies. Our son persuaded us to chip in $100 for his PS2 many years ago, simply because it let us watch DVD movies. DVD players were very expensive at that time. We got by quite well with the PS2 until a couple years ago, when we finally bought a $89 DVD player. We don't have an HDTV yet, but when we do I could see this scenario repeating with the PS3.

japan is very brand loyal, until their brand betrays them i dont see the xbox ever being that popular there. kinda why you dont see ford's roaming those streets often.

and to sit there and say that no one cares about those games besides halo is absolute ignorance. its all over ign, bioshock and mass effect, gears of war have been the most popular games at every conference, you're just ridiculous.

i understand you're a fanboy, you believe everything sony tells you. post me a link where sony denies the overheating issues, and state to me its not a problem, just like you prob stated that killzone was actually in game footage when sony lied lmao .

And the pot calls the kettle black (as in Microsoft fanboy). Speaking of Sony...

Sony Ready to Unveil First BD-50 Titles...(yeah, believe it baby!)

    http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/news...ray_Titles/283

    Quote:

After weeks of rumors and great anticipation, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is preparing to reveal its first three dual-layer, BD-50 Blu-ray disc releases, via a press release expected tomorrow.

Though the studio has yet to officially announce plans, industry sources have told High Def Digest that leading Sony's BD-50 charge will be 'Click,' which streets next Tuesday, October 10. Though originally expected to be a BD-25, single-layer disc only, the release will in fact be dual-layer and come packed with all the same bonus features as its standard DVD.

Sony will follow that up with 'Talladega Nights,' which was announced last week for a December 12 release, as well as what the studio will be calling its "flagship" BD-50 title, 'Black Hawk Down,' due November 14.

Both 'Talladega Nights' and 'Black Hawk Down' will feature a wealth of bonus content shot exclusively in high-definition. 'Black Hawk Down' will also be the first Sony title to feature the Blu-ray format's proprietary "Blu-Wizard" authoring environment, which promises to deliver extensive interactive content new to the format.

In anticipation of the full announcement, we've updated the listings for all three titles to our Blu-ray Release Schedule. Stay tuned, as we'll have complete specs for you as soon as they are released.

To me these are one of Blu-Ray's greatest assets and killer uses and it is one area where the capacity density difference between HD-DVD and Blu-Ray really matters.

HD camcorders with mini Blu-Ray discs is nice, especially given the limitations of 8cm DVDs. The only question is will memory prices drop enough to compete. Although I am sure there will be some cameras that do use flash memory or HDDs I can see Blu-Ray camcorders doing quite well. Finally the storage capacity to replace DV tapes with the ease of DVD. Shame it'll be a year and a half or more before any products.

Shock and awe? Meaning what, they finally have the room to put back in the bonus features that were already there with regular DVD?

No, meaning they finally put extras on there that are not already there with regular DVD, in that they (the extras) are in HD and have technology on the disc like Blu-ray Wizard technology that allows the user to have customized control over extras and other things as well as other technologies like BD-J.

    http://dvd.themanroom.com/dvd-newsview.php?id=327

In addition, meaning that the interactivity that we are witnessing on forth coming Blu-ray discs are just the beginning, thus my statement "the beginning of the shock and awe."
