Do people put blinkers on when they buy Apple kit? It's just bizarre that some people will continually deny that other companies can't do the same as Apple.

It puts me in an odd position, defending reality yet arguing with Apple fans even though you'd not catch me buying anything but Apple.

I understand. You have small hands. You know what they say about guys with small hands...

Welcome to the world of x86, where companies upgrade their machines overnight, without telling anyone.

If "fuck em" means "give them more than they ordered" than I say bring it on.

And "ordering blind"? If you ordered a spindle of 50 blank DVD's and they sent you 100, would you be pissed about that too? How dare they!!!

In this case "apple patriots" apparently means anyone with half a brain - do you really have to be a platform zealot to be in favor of free upgrades?

Thank god you're not running apple. Talk about getting fucked over...

    Almost $300 for 160Mhz more? I don't think so.

BRussell, I understand your point, but you really need to keep this in perspective. In this world, getting more of anything for the same price is a good thing. If people only want a 1.8Ghz machine, then let them cancel their original order and reorder it at a cheaper price. That's their prerogative.

If not having that extra 160Mhz per core gets your panties in a bunch, I have no sympathy for you. It's 160Mhz difference. Your machine will still be viable well into the future. Just live with it. It's not worth stressing over and bitching about here.

He's complaining because it isn't his money, it's his company's. So he doesn't care.

It's the cup half empty, half full question. To him, it's half full.

The problem seems to lie with his company's procurement procedures. As he said, they couldn't change their order. He should be bitching about his company's screwed up ordering process.

As we have seen, Apple is only too happy to upgrade a current order.

i also got an email saying mine was upgraded to a 2.0. It bascialyl said because of the upgrade it wont be until the 28th its shipped.

Hopefully they are giving everyone this info, but will get some out sooner because all the press releases ive seen said they will start shipping laptops this week. Whose are they shipping this week if those of us that ordered on the day it was announced have to wait 2 more weeks?

I'm seriously tempted to just cancel my order and get my money back for the applecare they already charged me for, and just wait til like the end of mark or early april and buy something then. Ive already been waiting over a month and they want me to wait 2 more weeks... or more... on the 28th they may just announce like.. even upgraded you order with a free copy of supercoolgame 3.0, and now your upgraded machine will be shipped by December 2007!

It looks like they've sent that email to everyone instead of trying to send a ton of customized emails. Supposedly, the first machines ARE shipping by the end of the week, people will know from the apple website once it's updated.

Don't forget, Apple has a precedent of announcing things shipping BY a date, which gives them the flexibility of sending it any time before that. I remember reports of people getting emails like this, then receiving their order a day or two later.

Ah, but they have updated the website and, as far as we know, there's no one left with a ship date of this week. (If you're order's been upgraded and you still have a ship date this week, please do speak up.)

I just spoke to someone at Apple and she claimed that no machines are shipping this week. Which, of course, contradicts the press release.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see...

For the record, my machine was a stock 1.83GHz. It's now a stock 2.0GHz with an estimated ship date of Feb 23. It was ordered Jan 10 at 11:04AM PST, just after the online store re-opened through the developer hardware purchase program.

strange yours would say the 23rd...

it says est. shipping 28th on apple web page, but the email said that it would ship by the 28th, which means anytime before.

With a VP of apple saying they are starting to ship that model this week, ill think i might get it before the 28th

I'm not sure I understand what the problem is here.

It should be obvious that Apple needs time to correct all of these orders, and get the machines out to the right people. I would think that a week or so for a delay wouldn't matter.

You ordered the first set of laptops announced on a new platform that were still in beta state when announced during a known transition period where Apple will be announcing new products...AFTER knowing that Apple put out a new version of the iMac that they had only just recently updated...

Your very questionable assumption of thinking you knew what "top of the line" would be on release isn't Apple's problem. Its yours for making a very dumb assumption. They could have easily released a new version of the MBP with a larger screen and the 2.16 chip in the intervening timeframe.

If you can't stand a little change IN YOUR FAVOR don't buy a Mac right now. Whining about change during a transition year makes you appear like a total moron.
