You guys are arguing about Macs with an IBM mainframe programmer.
Actually, I'm just calling him out for piss poor logic, self contradiction, thoughtless reactionary posting, and hypocritical and unsupported insults and name calling. Oh, and really crappy grammer. Proofread Prior to Posting Potentially Problematic... erm... Posts? Yeeeeah..... anyway...
I know absolutely diddly squat about electrical engineering and thermal dissipation in an iMac, and I ain't afraid to admit it!
But I'm honestly not convinced that he really does work for IBM. At least not in a technical capacity. I've always had the impression that they maintain a very very high standard for their employees, and I really can't imagine someone with as short a temper as he has displayed, and as poor communication skills as he has demonstrated, surviving there for long.
On the other hand, most of his posts on this thread are very very early in the morning, indicating that perhaps he's just getting off of work, and is therefore mondo-ass tired and irritable from dealing with nonsense at the office.
So will the MacBook get Core 2? X3000 graphics? I can't seem to wheedle an answer out of any threads around these parts. I'm liiiimping on my 12" PBG4. Dead battery, adapter is taped at three spots, the slowness is getting to me, and I need ArcGIS inside Parallels. Thoughts on the next MacBook anyone?

You'd lie about being an IBM mainframe programmer?

Eh...or just realizing he's stuck in a dead end technology until retirement. Which I hope is reasonably near or he might as well just paint a big L on his forhead.
A few years ago met a guy who was working on the Big Dig software in Boston at some conference. Told me it was built on OpenVMS and in FORTRAN...he'd been working silly hours for a couple years. Well spoken, seemed sharp enough, personable and I'd guess mid-30ish. Nice guy.
Complete moron. Who's going to hire some guy that's been coding FORTRAN on OpenVMS for the last several years through the dot bomb era? Especially post dot bomb when programmers are in somewhat better supply? And it wasn't as if Big Dig was some rip roaring success even back then when concrete slabs weren't falling and killing people (merely seriously overbudget and very late).
No programmer worth anything IMHO will willingly work dead tech for very long (just to pay your dues, pay the mortgage, etc till something better comes along). Its soooo easy to fall behind in this industry as it is.
Vinea
PS I started on TSO, OS360, punch cards etc. Yes, I know you can run zLinux on z/vm and that z/os is the second coming of the mainframe era. Whatever. You get to paint a gold L on your forehead if you do zLinux.
You'd lie about being an IBM mainframe programmer?
I wouldn't. But I've met many people recently who do lie about what they do, what they've done, who they are, etc. Seems like impersonation is the chic thing to do these days....
I don't mind most of the time, because I've got a broad enough knowlege base that I can frequently tell when some one is BSing me, and if I'm not sure, then it's not too dificult to trick them into exposing themselves as frauds. The time when it really pisses me off is when people pretend to have served in the military. Worse when they lie about having gone to war. Makes me both sad, and very very angry. That has got to be one of the worst forms of disrespect possible. It is an insult. Especially when those making such false claims are dirtbags. Brings disrepute on the service and besmirches the name of sevicemen and women everywhere.

X3000 will be with Merom 2.0/Santa Rosa.

If it made some people believe I'd be more credible?

Ok, moving right along....
