What you guys have inadvertently made clear is that even if it weren't for the need to stash certain components in the "chin", it's a necessity for aesthetic purposes.

Apple can sell a $400 Apple logo attachment for the pretentious people who need their computer to look "different" instead of "good"

It'll glow as long as the computer's on, and it uses USB, voice recognition, and the mic inside the iMac so that whenever the word 'iMac' is said, it'll turn red like it's blushing!

    THERE! NOW EVERYONE'S HAPPY!

No. I just had a Maxtor SATA 160GB crap out on me yesterday, 19 months light use and sleeping at night. Hooray for decent data backup, but due to institutional restrictions it is a bitch to backup/restore the apps.

Wow! The new Lenovo monitors are here!

That's what they look like, or maybe we luck out and folks go "Wow, Cinema Displays in black!"

Either way there is no product differentiation from the most important front viewpoint.

Exactly. They look dull and uninspiring.

Yeah, the chin inspires me to be disgusted by the appearance of the thing.

They inspire me to vomit all over the sterile-looking Apple Retail store I frequent.

If Apple put out a black matte iMac I would buy it in a second. Theres something about having shiny white plastic surounding my monitor that bothers me.
