This article says these ads were "extremely successful" yet people loved the PC character and hated the mac character.

    Isn't that contradictory?

A buddy of mine is an IT consultant, his analysis is that the ads are stupid, more to the point he once said "those ads don't show a damn thing that they offer that isn't available for $X00 less from Dell or HP...if they want me to look at their stuff and how it may fit into over all solutions, they have toi show me what sets them apart, what makes them a better choice than the others" HINT: it aint the hardware...affordable Windows-based PCs aint big ass beige boxes any more...

And who resorted to name calling?

OK so there is a light scribe DVD-R for Mac. I stand corrected but it external which cost more than PC drives that do the same thing.

I called you dishonest because of your statements in your first reply. Read it again and you will see why I called you dishonest and a fan boy.

The bottom line is fanboys don't like it when you apply honest comparisons between Macs and PC's. All this PC bashing is dishonest. Yes M$ has some crappy OS's but XP is light years ahead of their other OS's and it's not a bad OS. Since OSX is less than 5% of the total world market then it only makes sense that OSX has less problems with virus infections etc... And just for the record to all you fanboys XP can be protected by using an AV etc... Since it has huge market share then naturally it's a target for dishonest geeks who have no lives other than programming virus programs.

By the way check out www.nvidia.com for some leading edge tech that you WILL NOT see in your Macs LOL!!!!!! Poor fanboys!

BTW I use OSX but I'm honest about this so-called Mac vs PC thing. Call it what is really is and thats M$ vs Apple. The PC hardware is not the problem when you take the time to look at it and research that facts. Time to wake up from the mind control of Apple Inc.

I've noticed fanboys don't want to talk about the facts. They name call and make all kinds of excuses in order to deflect what is hurting Apple today and that is a lack of hardware support and software developers.

The bottom line is Mac will stay less that 5% of the total market share unless they change.

So go ahead spin and name call but the facts speak for themselves.

PC hardware is driving tech today. Apple is behind. That is a fact. So huge your sleek Macs, open the Safari, and read about PC hardware before you start bashing the PC.

I'll give my Mac a huge for ya to help you kick stared researching the facts about PC's and their hardwares pushing tech to higher standards etc....

lightscribe is available for os x. i have a lacie drive that supports it. by the way, it is very neat. but it takes too damn long to burn the disc labels, you have to flip the disc and takes about 25-30 minutes on high quality i think

They should hire both Christopher Walken, Dennis Haysbert, and the PC-to-mac convert guy to beat up on the new PC guy, Donald Rumsfeld.

It appears to be so. An internal model would only work with the Mac Pro's second drive anyway. But for the external, see my picture again: it's external, designed by Porsche:

It doesn't help matters that John Hodgman is, oh, 10,000 times more talented than Justin Long. He's one of my favorite recurring people on the Daily Show, and his book "The Areas of My Expertise" is f'ing hilarious.

Meanwhile, Justin Long was in "Accepted." No contest.

I think having PC Guy switch into Mac Guy is the best idea so far in this thread.

Actually, having the PC guy "switch" makes a lot of sense in terms of Apple's positioning. Geek-boy has done his time, converted PC to Mac, and is moving on. If he leaves the audience wanting more Apple advertising to watch (building Mac mindshare) that is not exactly a bad thing.

We win. What's not to like about an ad like that?

Apple Japan has remade a couple of the current Mac-PC ads into Japan:

Not great, but they are a beginning.

Racist? You ever question the motive behind words or do you just take everything at face value? It was not racist.

The rumours of Justin Long's demise as "Apple guy" in the Apple Get A Mac ads are WRONG according to Justin Long:

This just in (from Justin Log himself on his official web site), he states in a post today entitled "Just To Clarify" under the "Talkin 'bout Justin Long" forum section. Justin is quoted as saying:

"as for the mac commercials, i don't know where that report came from that said i wasn't going to do anymore - i literally setting my alarm right now to wake up for a mac shoot tomorrow - if i'm not doing anymore i guess i can sleep in on my day off - that'd be nice. but yeah, we're doing some holiday spots now which i think will be pretty funny - not nearly funny enough to justifiy the money they're paying me though, i'll be honest with you. as for the future, i really don't know what i'm going to do - i'm surprised, frankly, that the campaign hasn't become tired and they've just ended it on their own - but i try to live as much in the present as i can considering the future doesn't exist, i'm not really sure. they're easy to do, i love john (the pc guy) and working with him is so effortless and fun that i definitely wouldn't rule out doing some more - and, as i said, they pay us nicely."

    - Justin Long wrote on 11/13/2006.

Read the whole post to find out about how Justin feels about working with John McClane (aka "Bruce Willis") on the set of Die Hard 4 which he is now filming. He sure is a down to earth guy for an actor!

Um...the target demographic does not appear to be "IT consultant". If he can't be bothered to investigate the pros and cons of the major platforms without needing cute ads to point them out then he ain't all that great an IT consultant either. Being moderately knowledgable about windows, unix, linux and OSX is part of the job.

Yeah, honestly. If an IT consultant bases his purchasing decisions on ads for the mainstream, i.e. consumers, then he's got bigger things to worry about than whether the ads are any good.

No, the ads don't show whether Apple is cheaper, offers unique features or should be purchased by an IT consultant. They don't intend to, either. A 30-second, biased (it's an ad, duh!) piece of video couldn't possibly answer such questions.
