Ever got a magazine in September that was dated November, Publications date themselves based on shelf life not release date. This way it covers the dates up to the date it is removed from the shelf.

Magazines traditionally run their dates ahead. Stupid, true, but even monthly magazines tend to be 1-3 (yes, 3) months ahead of when they actually publish. It came from the days when these magazines competed to get their editions out sooner, and we ended up with this stupid system.

About the January 14th thing...that refers to the last day for which the issue is current. Like the Newsweek which comes out Tuesday will be dated the 14th. By this logic, this issue will come out either tomorrow (Monday) or Tuesday.

I think the story was embargoed for the keynote, and in some communications snafu Time's Canadian edition put it up early. Note that it's not on Time's U.S. site yet.

Steve is probably pissed, but he won't sue. Look at the big picture: he's got the cover of Time magazine, with a headline of "FLAT OUT COOL," and a very complimentary article. You can't buy that kind of good publicity.

Wont this generate even more hype and headlines "Apple furious over leaked photos", "Steve to take legal action against Time" adding to the publicity and exposure of the new Imac.

You know, the keynote was probably moved to Monday when they got the deal with Time. Time comes out on Mondays.

As the saying goes, "There is no such thing as bad publicity." I think P.T. Barnum said that.

Well, I'd say that this pretty much sums up the attitude over in Cupertino right about now:

What's that first part of the Constitution? I can't remember?

BTW did it occur to anyone that this Time article is why the keynote was moved? Hummm?

In most cases these magazines are not put together in less than a weeks time. I recall at MWNY 2000 and even at MWSF 2001 there was a news article released by the end of the week, by either Time, or one of the other major magazines.

Steve knows that Microsoft is doing a keynote on Tuesday and I am sure he did the interview so that it would be released tomorrow or Tuesday by the magazines. I am sure he was not planning for this type of leak, but I am sure he wanted the info to be released prior to anything Microsoft might announce. I doubt he will sue.

2 hours for this new iMac - I still bet there is more.

That's probably the only intelligent thing I've read here tonight. This makes perfect sense.

The coincidence of the Time article being released on monday is pretty obvious. I didn't realize it was a bone of contention.

Any time there's an expo or announcement, we generally don't sleep anyways; just trying to discuss last minute possibilities and rumors. I doubt they told them to leak it on purpose. Steve isn't gonna be happy when he unveils the iMac knowing everyone there knows what to expect already.

Office cleaner??! Oh shut up! Time is a pretty big production and they publish their magazines a week ahead of the dateline. That also happens to be the first of the week. I'm sure somewhere along the line, they said if you want this to appear the week of the expo, then the cat will be out of the bag Sunday or Monday, and the website's updated every Monday morning (Sunday night). This occurs each and every week and they don't delay in updating their site (unlike other sites around here! ) regardless of which company or person or thing is on their cover or main stories.

I bet Time Canada is all in bed. Apple Legal is ringin' but no one's picking up.
