Anyone else think we may be about to see a complete update in the MacPro desktops?
No, they were just updated.

There isn't even an official 3 Ghz version, Apple asked Intel to make one for them.

That's the problem actually: we are near to 7 months with almost zero new Mac hardware.
After excluding the Mark of the new Mac Models (Mac Pro Update, it was the mark of the last upgrade cycle) you then turn around and say there were no new Mac models. Tsk Tsk.

I don't know if iPhone qualfies as a Mac. Even if it does, this is for next month.
It qualifies, it's running OS X. It may not be a Mac in the computer sense but I still consider it a Mac.... and Next month is when you can expect something to happen.

This is hardly an update in the sense we know it from the PowerPC era. It is just an addition to the CPU options and sure an update in this sense. But nothing else changed. The line is blurred here.

Let me disagree here until we learn more about its functionality.
This has been a terribly long wait, and I hope they don't make my new MBP obsolete already, but I do hope they come out with something really sweet that I will buy without looking at the total on the credit card.

Yawn... At least that's what AI told us to do. We will know soon.
..... is first to break the silence, contrary to popular speculation, but is it a party starter?
one of my buds who works at an apple store told me that tonight they received a shipment of macbook pro's with 2.60 ghz core 2 duo processers. we'll see if they come out tommorow.

Any other details he mentioned? I'm curious, as I am ready to probably buy an MBP for college when the new model comes out. Confirmation of Santa Rosa perhaps? Or an upgraded graphics card? Larger HD/RAM? LED Displays?

Did the conversation take place in a coffee shop or did he actually see items in an elevator? If not, credibility is low.
I just bought a 2.33 a month ad a half ago... hope they wait on the 2.60s until at least June...

So if you are wanting to buy a new Apple product it is always best to wait, wait, wait for the lastest model...?
No. And people who waited for SR MBPs lost out on months of MBP goodness really for what appears to be very little gain.

Sure, you can disagree until we learn more about the functionality, but that doesn't change the fact that it's running OS X.

But if he got his friend drunk spilling the beans, then I think he has some extra credibility points.
