Because none of the changes they made are improvements. XP wasn't perfect, but it was better than Windows 2000 imo. Now with Vista, they changed stuff just for the heck of it. I don't really see innovation, only annoying new features, a desktop that tells you the time in both the top right and bottom right corner, tons of security warnings about programs that need your permission, a start-button that barely looks like a button, etc etc

And basically I just don't think it's a pleasant interface to work in, XP is much easier on my eyes.

Although I've not used it much, I've heard (and have no trouble believing) that it's not ready for primetime yet. As with most Microsoft OS's, it takes a long time for the OS to be good enough to replace it's predecessor, in this case, Windows XP. I hear lots of PC users telling me they plan to wait until Windows Vista SP1 is released. But very rarely do you hear a Mac user say they are going to wait for OS 10.x.1 to upgrade.

Ah, how MS cares about you! Making sure you won't miss the correct time.

They teach you kung fu self-defense and you are complaining?

They realised perhaps that it makes no sense to use a start button to stop your computer.

OK, I see but as I said I have no personal experience, so I take your word for it.

Well, yes, this sounds typical Microsoft transition.

I heard that too, but what SP1 is suppposed to fix, making it worth to wait for? The feature and user-interaction-elements set should be frozen a long time ago, right?

Hmm, it depends. Probably correct for average users, but if you look at these boards you can find many people not trusting anymore Apple in the 10.x.0 releases.

Ooops, this is an iMac thread and we talk about Vista. So, another Tuesday without updates. The countdown goes on.

i have to beg to differ there. you quite often hear people on hear saying this. however, a point update of os x is not quite as major as a windows service pack (at least in the case of xp) there has only been 2 (or is it 3 now?)

i have to admit there were some annoying bugs when i updated to tiger, so it is tempting to wait it out with leopard as well

Today's conference call with analysts could be good.

"Yeah, I know you don't like to talk about unannounced products, but your iMac line has been left untouched for 11 months, care to explain that one?"

It is sad. My first Mac was a Mac clone because Apple would never update their computers fast enough. Seems like they are back to their old ways. 11 months is too long without even a speed bump. It isn't like Intel is having problems kicking out new processors.

The performance differences however are pretty much minimal. But this does not means that Apple should leave a hardware line linger for so long. Apple could very well have updated almost every main component in the iMac long ago.

It's a disgrace as far as keeping their product introductions on a schedule.

Hopefully, the next iMac (or whatever the name turns into) will light our socks on fire.

Hopefully the delay is not related to design problems which would catch our houses on fire.

There was talk about holding off from new operating systems until the first revision. What about hardware? Anyone think you should hold off to see if this new iMac is glitch free? I bought the first iMac G4 when it came out and had no problems. Still use it.
