Although I agree that there should be a full-size BT keyboard, I'm happy to see the "lap-approved" mini version. As far as I'm concerned this only means one thing:
Mini Wireless Keyboard = Major AppleTV Software Update (Web, Email, Widgets & Games)
Oh... and finally video content available on the Canadian iTunes Store
We feel your pain, Oh Canada! That is a real cheat!
I actually think its ok. I would use the full keyboard on a desk, and the small one off the desk , across the room for example. If you have ever tried, its not very fun to use a full sized keyboard on your lap. Also, with the full keyboard you wont have to change batteries. Now only if apple had wireless charging.
Do you have a laptop?
I dont see why I'd buy a mini BT keyboard when I have an exact same keyboard built into my laptop.
If it were a full BT keyboard, it be a different case. I think they're going to lose a lot of bt keyboard sales.
If you're on a desktop computer, and you want a clean, wirefree desk, there's no way to go except non-Apple.

Not a very good business move, I think.

What makes you think Apple cares? This BT keyboard has the potential to work with any BT device. Ahem...iPhone...cough. It's not just about what a laptop owner wants. Most laptops don't have numeric keypad yet people are productive with them.
The design of this keyboard (no USB, no num keypad) show that Apple wants to keep this thing small and portable. They just dropped one shoe..the other show dropping is perhaps new BT enabled Apple product that requires keyboard input.
The assumption that only a laptop user or someone trying to reduce clutter would buy a BT keyboard is short sighted.

yes there is a market besides desktop and laptop users, but I'd think it would be rather small in comparison.
I'm not saying they should kill the small BT keyboard, I think it would be more profitable for them, and reasonable towards existing Apple laptop users to offer a full BT version as well.
This is the first keyboard in two years I have any interest in buying, thanks to the number pad-less layout. I have actually been looking for a wired keyboard, but I guess BT wireless won't be much worse. I'm very happy with my current keyboard, but for gaming I could use function keys and a shorter keypress.
I can see how the lack of trackpad or trackpoint (which IMO would suit this keyboard much better) can bother those thinking of using this from the couch, but you could plant a full-size wireless trackball next to your thigh on the couch, and it would be much more accurate. Trackpad isn't usable on huge screens.
I am extremely disappointed right now. It's completely retarded. People using desktop computers use them so that they can receive full-functionality. If you're sitting at your desk, and you are playing a game like (gee I dunno) world of warcraft, which requires many many buttons to play coherently.. I mean, FUCK.
My keyboard doesn't even have function keys and I can play WoW just fine. Why would I ever bind something in the number pad when I'd have to move my hand off WASD movement keys and act slower? I have 12345, QERTFGZXCVB, Shift-QERTFGZXCVB, Ctrl-QERTFGZXCVB in easy reach and do not have to interrupt movement for a second or look away from the screen to make those inputs. Folks with a normal keyboard would have dedicated function keys to boot.

There is no way I am running a cable across my clean clear glass desk, for 2 feet, then to dangle up and around to my laptop. That's just retarded. Give us a full-size BT keyboard. ~_~
Right, so get some other BT keyboard.

Productive people tend to have bigger worries than how their desk looks.
I'd peg the amount of people who can't touch type with number pad, and therefore can't get any benefit out of it, at 80% or so. Of the rest, most would still be better off without a fixed pad on their keyboard. It's horrible for ergonomics.
Most high end ergonomic keyboards, $100 and up, do not have a number pad and the keyboard's outline is centered on the home row. The pros buying them will get a separate USB pad (I think those are available at $15 or so) if they actually need one, but by and large people just don't get enough out of it to justify that clutter on the desk. The ergonomic sacrifice made for a fixed pad is worse.

Where did you get the photo of the new mouse, cause I can't find that on apple's site or anywhere else...
There is no new mouse. He was just saying that having a BT keyboard with no numeric keypad is like having a BT mouse without a scroll wheel.

*snip* They just dropped one shoe.. *snip*
And now we have to hobble around on one foot, or be forced to use a 3 year old product. (The old BT keyboard)
- Xidius
The one thing i thought of when i saw the small BT keyboard was that it would make a great keyboard for a Mac Mini HTPC setup.
Gonna balance the keyboard on one knee and the mouse on the other, huh?

Where do you put the mouse?
or
Maybe we're gonna see touchscreem mac's soon & some laser pointing 'mouse' deveice...
Maybe, maybe not...

If you could point me in the direction of a bluetooth trackball, that'd be great.

one of the posters here emailed steve direct to ask him about the new keyboards
http://discussions.apple.com/message...164921#5164921
they are also talking about it here, scroll up on this page
Except it isn't because it doesn't have a built-in trackpad.
Remote anyone?
Remote anyone?
Remote != Mouse/trackpad

Dude, you need to get some perspective in life.
