Well here's the update: I informed my brother that we're doing it April 4th. That date is now booked. He agreed to be my best man and said they would be here not only for the wedding but for a potential bachelor party as well. So that's good.
I ran this story by several people, one of whom is not only a good female friend, but a psychologist as well. After I told her, she said "I'm sorry...did I hit my head on the pavement?" She was astounded at their behavior (e.g. "the damage is done"--actual quote from bridezilla).
Round II approaches though as my sister is getting married in October. That will be different because she is having a much lower key wedding and non-traditional engagement (she's a hippie, what can I say?).
