"Most Excellent" as Bill & Ted would say.

    Anyone save the vids?

I didn't mean conservative in a political sense. Ich ha gmeint segsch en Tuepflischiisser wo daenkt das alles wo noed "stylish" isch "X-rated" isch. In any case, I'm just being difficult. I shouldn't deny a compatriot his contrary opinion.

I think it's more hypocritical than conservative. But if you're thinking of the influence of the conservative Christian right and the narrowminded Protestant ethic, I wholeheartedly agree with you.

    Grazie mille!

Fuuny how we want more actual "content" in the ads -- showing how to use the iApps and the operating system. Yet the two most compelling ads are "Zoom" and "Jaguar on the Loose" which are essentially devoid of any such specific content. I love the zoom ad. Says nothing in particular and yet it's captivating.

I downloaded the five yesterday evening, Apple must have been getting a lot of hits on that page. More than they wanted. The Zoom one like other people are saying is awesome, it would be so cool to see that one is a TV ad. The other ones are okay, maybe X on the loose is the second best.

This is exactly the definition I meant. I really, really wish I was better in expressing myself. As I said before in an other thread: My language may sound harsh at times, because I'm not used to write in english. I learned to understand this language by reading AI and other stuff on the web for the last couple of years. No joke. And thanks to Sherlock's Translation channel provided by Systran and the spell checker of OS X I manage to make not too many mistakes.

Maybe I should have been more moderate in my critics of the clips. The fact Apple has not aired these clips yet (which I hope they don't) does not entitle me to bash them the way I did. The reason I did it nevertheless is best described by Noleli's post:

"If Apple is trying to get people to switch, their commercials have to not be quirky or cute. They have to be mainstream because that is the market they're going for."

The lack of professionalism is what I'm deeply concerned about. I work in the corporate-identity business and have directed a few clips for clients myself, so I guess I know what I'm talking about.

You're a swiss living in Washington, DC? Cool! I'm surprised that there are quite a few compatriots (just learned this word from you) here on AI. If you consider the size of our country, this is truly amazing.

Isn't it possible that these aren't TV commercials, but maybe something else?

maybe these are the first "commercials" you see when you are using your iPhone?

Something about these commercials make me think they are geared to small video screens? And also due to a lack on content / context I would think this may be used in a tradeshow-multimedia display. To me these don't work as "ads" but I guess they could be considered teasers.

Maybe this is just a teaser campaign and the real stuff would follow these teasers.

At any rate it beats the Microsoft Tick.

If the ads are meant to persuade current Apple users to upgrade to Jaguar, that's probably fine.

But if they're meant to persuade people to switch, they're worthless.

I suspect the former is more likely, because the junk mail movie shows an old Mac OS mail app, rather than Windows.

It's no wonder that we have so little content here. If you want to know the answer, USE THE PHONE. I picked it up, and called Bill Evans

@(408) 974-0610. He is the Apple PR contact for both OS X & Quicktime. He's the man with the plan. The marketing dept. can help you also. Shesh!

The long and short? Well poo on you, I'm not saying, since now I too am sworn to secrecy. But if you call and mention you saw the ads, then you might get some sympathetic advice and a bit more info for you listening pleasure.

they are going to be shown in some obscure place on december 29th so they can be nominated for this years commercial awards...

    maybe.....??

    they better be commercials

think about it, they have the Mac OS X URL at the end, that says "come to this website because this is an ad" all over it

How industrious! Me? Too lazy, and I don't really care all that much. I think Belle's right, they could be geared towards Classic users. They might be a bit obtuse for others.

Regardless, I have mirrored them myself on my project-think server. Here they are in case Adam's iDisk goes down for some reason:

So that you could ask, Defiant. Actually, as Quick realized correctly, Zurich is my hometown and Züridütsch is my paternal tongue.

Quick: I actually think you're doing a fine job expressing yourself. I was just having a bad day and was giving you a hard time. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, however strong or weak it is and however it is expressed.

By the way, I learned English in a similar way, before the Web came along, by listening to <a href="http://www.voa.gov/"; target="_blank">Voice of America</a> radio on <a href="http://www.rediffusion.ch/"; target="_blank">Rediffusion</a> cable. Listening to American-English news every hour gave me an American accent before I ever set foot on American soil.

I actually think you're right. Belle very sensibly pointed out that if these clips were ads, they would be targeted at existing Mac (Classic) users, not switchers. Even though I think they are terribly funny, they look like they were produced by non-professionals with a low-end camera and iMovie.

Can you get me a job if I move back to Zurich?

Absolutely. Same goes for the MacNN Forums, where one of the moderators, tooki, lived in Switzerland for several years and speaks Schwiizerduetsch. [play Sting in the background] I was a Swissman in New York. Now I'm a Swissman in DC. Who knows where life will take me next? I love the US, but also miss quaint and efficient Switzerland.
