It's always refreshing to see every 10 posts or so when an intelligent person makes a comment . I like the fans and everything; but seriously at some point you gotta tone down your backstreet boy crush (that doesn't mean it's gone; just means you're logical about it).

Begs the question - why would Palm want to 'integrate' with iTunes?

    (from wikipedia)

    Market share

    * Steve Jobs announced in his "It's Showtime" keynote that Apple had 88% of the legal U.S. music download market on September 12, 2006.[44]

    * Apple announced that the iTunes Store had sold more than two million movies, making it the world’s most popular online movie store on April 11, 2007.[53]

    * Apple announced that iTunes Store surpassed Best Buy to become the second biggest music seller in the USA behind Wal-Mart on February 26, 2008 and eventually became number one on April 3, 2008.[1]

Because it the biggest marketplace for music, that's why. This is not withstanding any irrelevant notion that the store makes little profit.

    WHATS YOUR POINT ?

Apple should support all 3rd party devices?

Palm will have to make patches if and when apple updates itunes.

Like all the new stuff in the pipeline open CL ,GCS . 2 CORE / 4 CORE chips.

Over 80 percent of all itune users are on window machines, so much fro apple mac monopoly .

Do you dream up stuff that has never ever happened in a free market ?

Just because some idiots here make up silly stuff doesn't mean its true.

i'm always amused by people who disagree with apple and claim superior reasoning powers as a result. Name calling those who disagree with you and labelling them zealous apple rahrahs might make you feel better about yourself, but it's a poor substitute for logic.

Yeah, so what you're saying is that in spite of Apple's statement here, the Pre will continue to work fine with iTunes as long as Palm keeps on top of things. Therefore any question of Apple being "monopolistic" or something is, besides being ridiculous, also practically meaningless.

Given that, what incentive do you see Apple having for developing, releasing, and supporting an API? Why in God's name would they do that?

None of the whiners that are complaining about Apple seem to be able to answer this. One guy said it's because Apple will get iTunes to more people. iTunes is free software that is given away for the SOLE purpose of differentiating the Apple hardware it operates with. Nothing more. It doesn't matter how big it is, Apple has no incentive to make it bigger, unless that bigger corresponds to bigger hardware sales of Macs and iPods.

    AGREED..

Except ITUNES is written for wintel machines. Over 80 percent of all itunes users are being used on non-apple computers. Which destroys these not very bright people here who think apple has a monopoly with the itunes store? Because only 8 or 9 percent of all computers sold today have itunes as the default music player.

Of the 240 million possible itunes users <ipod-itouch-iphone> over 200 million of them do not use MACOSX. So where do they get apple is stomping on the little guy . Itunes is a free music player. When it updates it updates. Apple assumes no risk for any 3rd party device.

NO COMPANY HAS EVER HAS ACCEPTED RISK FOR 3RD PARTY DEVICES.

Why would they . Because you guys whine like babies. Doesn't make it so. The already famous amos PRE made a mistake, It messed with apple inc. Apple iphone will crush the pre. .. CRUSH . And we will see very soon 2 pre's for the price of one . Already the pre has shown cracks and shoddy construction.

The good news is that zune welcomes the pre and would like to have lunch one day. All you whiners can then buy the zune and the pre for the price of one .Apple does not want your buisness anyway .

No, what I'm suggesting is a nod to practicality and pragmatism. One way or another, device makers will make it work. Why not simply let it be done right, avoiding the frustrations that result and the blame on one part for the device maker fudging it, and Apple on the other, for breaking the 'compatibility'. It would be foolish to suggest that a device user would not hold Apple to some element of blame in the matter, despite any logical notions to the contrary.

Note carefully that no where did I suggest that Apple was being monopolistic.

How about this? Giving people a taste of the Apple experience would encourage people to go 'all Apple'.

This is a silly statement. Not only does it showcase interoperability in the Apple ecosystem as you point out, it is the music store with the biggest market share in the United States.
