I gather you didn't get the joke. The first part of Pogue's review was for geeks. It was the kitchen sink of geek complaints about the iPad, all of which we've heard here thousands of times. The second part of the review was for normal people. Hey, you decide.

The PCMag review was the most thorough, and the most positive. I'd call that a good sign.

I think that is the 3rd time that was explained, and even Pogue made mention that he thought it was clear in his Q&A.

I agree with the PCMag review. Tim Gideon's video review was also nice. Unfortunately, it has pretty much sold me on an iPad, which I had hoped wouldn't happen for awhile.

    Ultra LAME.

Where was the joke? Give me a direct quote- everything he stated was true. Do you know the meaning of satire or irony?Perhaps you would like to explain it a 4th time as you obviously are Mister Pogue's ghostwriter? If it was intended to be ironic there should be no explanation necessary.

Still waiting for your interpretation as you seem to excel in reading comprehesion. What is it?

I believe you accusing Solipsism of being "defensive"?

    And now we all laugh.

I guess it wouldn't be satire if everybody got it.

Well at least we can all agree that it's just a gigantic iPod Touch and be done with it.

Let's recap. I post to you comments where Pogue states it's "brilliant", "a category creator", "a joy to use" and "thinks it will a big hit", as well as "representing the most exciting software ideas in a long time" yet your conclusion and response to that is, "it seems pretty neutral If not negative to say the least" and ""the second part only slightly positive". Does not compute!

I think you fall under the Techie category in his article since you can only relate to and understand the part of the review where he parrots the most common complaints.
That said, the question is a little odd, because the iPad really is very different from a laptop or an iPhone. I guess people have a lot of trouble with the idea that it's a new category, something unlike anything they've used before. All people can do is compare it in their heads with stuff they HAVE used before.

    (emphasis mine)
PS: I find it humourous that you read joke, but by your 3rd sentence you warped it to satire and irony. Interesting. It was satirical in that it was exaggerating the claims of techies, but not all jokes are satirical or ironic.

I often disagree with solipsism, but he usually presents reasoned arguments backed-up with citation of facts which support his opinions,

He makes me re-think and re-examine my own opinions/facts.

That is the type of of contribution that adds to the discussion, IMO.

That is why I come here, to learn and some times contribute, if I can.

Sometimes, tho, we're all entitled to a little sarcasm, humor or a rant.

But, in solipsism's case the good, vastly outweighs the bad.

    I've enjoyed it!

P.S. Solipsism... I think I covered everything you asked... can I get the $500 to pay for my iPad?

Ok so you're a TechnoPhobe- problem solved. Sorry to bother you down with tech talk as you only quote the second half of his "review".

If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem.

Out of all you responses over 80% are an attack on someone else or rhetoric on who is a troll or not.

By the community definition, and even your own above, you qualify as a troll. You have contributed nothing to the conversation ON TOPIC, and have just focused on pointing out the supposed failings of others.

In this thread I am guilty of that as well, except I never specifically directed it at one person.

To quote you: "If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem."

Also, please learn how to quote, as the rest of us have.

Well useless in the sense that people will want to install a few apps on the device and keep some media files there. Not to mention is the desire to put games there. I can see people easily going through several GB just for app installations.

The lack of an SD slot is an even bigger issue after adoption on the portables. As a method of holding bulk media files for execution on devices like iPad should be obvious. Even more so I hear rumors of movies actually being distributed on SD cards in the far east. It just seems like an obvious solution to managing large file libraries. I guess Apple is to obsessed with keeping everything in the ecosystem. It is also why I could see myself being attracted to alternative platforms running Linux.

It is not an issue of cramming more storage into the device, but rather having transitory ability to play media files you don't want installed on your machine. I acknowledge that Apple screwed up by including to little Flash in the iPads. However with video coming in multi GB files it really doesn't matter how much flash is installed as you will always risk running out. An SD port would mean this would never happen.

    this could be some help:

Well, look, the way humor works is that you either get it or you don't. If you don't get it, it's really no use anyone trying to explain it to you. But, I assure you, you are exactly the person Pogue was making fun of in the part of the review labeled "for techies". I know you don't understand why, or what, or how... but, like I said, if you don't get, you just don't get it.

Now run along and go buy that netbook you've had your eyes on.

(OK, I know it's hopeless, but, hint: The part of the review for "everybody else" was the review. The part "for techies"... he was just making fun of you. Yes, you. No, really, you.)
