Do phones have to be so big? If Samsung just want to target men that's fine! At this rate one will have to start using jacket pockets. Apple shouldn't need to be worried. My laptop is a quad and it does plenty full - why do I need this octo processor? It is so American! It is like having a McLaren and I am just driving a mile away!
Ho hum Samsung made some minor tweaks to the S2 and SIII and played catch up to the already available Sony Xperia Z.
I expect to sell boatloads of these to glassy eyed buyers bedazzled by the hype.
Exactly, and it ends up being frustrating because even here we have those sort of trolls polluting any attempt to have a decent conversation/discussion.
I mean, lots of people are buying the iPhone without knowing what they are doing, and that's stupid. However, every single person that bough a galaxy s3 made a stupid decision, no matter how you look at it (as long as you use common sense and facts) and the same can be applied to this model.
They will probably outsell the iPhone, and they will spell doom for Apple. I seriously hope that that happens. Then, I can come here to learn and talk about products, with people that want the same (discuss, learn).
I mean, isn't 13 billions (or a 1/10th of that) enough?
Air gestures is interesting. Apart from that it looks like a decent incremental upgrade in the large screen phone category mixed with some software gimmickry and marketing speak. Certainly it will make the number conscious feel superior, "It has 8 cores!"
I waste an hour an a half of this crap Samsung call a press conference or keynot. They just doesn't have something really innovated to show so they fill out the keynote with weird, awful, awkward, and cringe worthy moment. It safe to said that Apple keynote is all about showing what their product and informing what the products can do without a whole of useless crap. The most cringe worthy moment is when they were expecting this big standing applause with every feature they announce. And that was brutal when no one clap at the end of the keynote when the MC try to force the crowd to do it.
Samsung keynote:
-Weird
-Awkward
-Awful
-Annoying
-Cringe Worthy
-Offensive - Sexist and cockiness in their keynote.
I watched the samsung unpacked live broadcast and I like the hardware specs of the s4 but the software features are too complicated. It has a ton of photo options that to me seems confusing and hard to use and also has other features like the eye scroll thing and pause feature that could give people headaches. I don't like the idea that everything that moves forward in technology is necessarily better. The iphone 5 is still the better overall phone, its very simple, and easy to use and doesnt complicate users like the s4 will. I just hope Apple doesnt go down this same path of adding a bunch of software features that nobody will use. Also the Apple keynotes are still the best to watch, the samsung unpacked event was complicated by dancers, singers, musicians and so on, while the Apple keynotes are simple, with one speaker at a time and just very easy to follow.
They need the eye control stuff because that sized phone will be almost impossible to use one handed without it.
When are they going to come up with some innovation, instead of some minor tweaks to what's already out there?
Google Docs are nice, Google Now, Chrome is a decent browser, Google Earth is fun and somewhat handy, and while Google didn't create YouTube, it does belong to them now.
Sure - if you don't mind google having access to every element of your private and business life. Personally, I am not interested in letting them read all my documents. If I wanted them to, I'd just mail them the password to my computer and open a port in the firewall for them.
No one has yet mentioned that Schiller was wrong about the OS version. It runs 4.2 - which is only 4-5 months old, not a year. It doesn't really matter much, though. The point he was making is valid.
Very few Android phones ever have OS updates available - which is why the majority of Android phones are still running ancient versions. So even if this phone comes with the latest version (which is already 5 months old), by the time the phone is 2 years old, it will be running a 2.5 year old OS. Updates are routinely available for iPhones for years - so that's not the case with iPhones. So people who buy this phone are likely to be using it for most of its life without even the most basic security updates.
You realize that comparing dual to quad to octa is retarded, don't you? What the hell are you talking about? It's the same architecture? Same generation? Are they powering the same OS?

You're missing the point. They NEED 4-8 cores because Android is such a kludge and the UI is so choppy. It's really nothing to brag about. "Our OS is so bad that we had to double the number of cores, drastically decreasing battery life, in order to make it usable".
OTOH, maybe that explains the size. They aren't really interested in the screen size, but they needed such a huge battery to power the processor that they figured they might as well put in a big screen since the phone was massive, anyway.
This is probably just a rumor, but I've heard that at Apple's Cupertino headquarters, they have their Apple flag at half mast. I'd also heard that there's finally some stirring about in the CEO's office. Tim caught wind of the Samsung Galaxy S4 introduction and went into a rage about why wasn't the iPhone 6 ready. After being told to calm down and that it would be ready in four months or so, Tim Cook nodded, asked everyone to leave, then put his head down on his desk and promptly went back to sleep. So goes Tim Cook's tough response to Samsung muscling into Apple's iPhone territory. That's the way Tim. Fighting! And to my fellow Apple shareholders... Have patience. Apple's share price might drop to below $400, but don't worry about it. Tim Cook certainly isn't.

Air gestures are already available on the note 2, a little blue dot that appears under a hovering stylus tip.
Maybe you should read the article before posting. The conclusion is:
The silver lining for Apple should be that if one combines the full rankings – which includes data from the U.S., U.K., France, Germany, Japan, and Indonesia – and looks at overall device satisfaction, the Cupertino company is still the cream of the crop. As a company, Apple finished first across the entire survey,
This looks like they should have called it the Note III. It's a 5 inch screen. This is phablet class.
Yeah, I agree Apple needs to step it up, but I don't know if 5 inch phones are going to sell well. They only sold around 10 to 15 million 5 inch phones so far that I'm aware of.
As far as Air Gesture is concerned. I think that is one of those "great demo" but DUMB for normal use category features.
Talking about Android fragmentation. Samsung S4 is itself fragmented as it can be quadric or octo core. Cool for developers. And for buyers by the way...

A few Android phones already beat the S4 on every metric, and the iPhone still is the best phone available when all things are considered.

"But while many of the functions are useful or innovative, a few of them didn't seem ready for prime time in a preview with journalists."
It's just about gimmicks and stupid people.
Yup. If consumers were more sophisticated shoppers, HTC and Sony would be doing much better than they are now...
"Life companion" is a very weird tagline. Also, a live orchestra?
People have been giving Samsung too much credit for being "cool", because none of that is remotely cool.
They're going to get crushed if Apple comes out with a larger form-factor iphone.

Hmmmm. . . So perhaps Samsung Galaxy 3S would have been more appropriate.

Does it come with a man purse?

Of. Interest to me:
translation voice and text
OCR camera capture
Siri like PDA functions with no web
Maps/navigation with no web
Home Server
What infrastructure will Sammy use to support all the media and sync services?
