Didn't know about this Kindle Fire HDX before, thanks for the tip! Is has 2x the CPU power these A7 iPads have, and a better resolution than Retina, and a 8MP camera as well. And it's lighter on the wallet than iPad Air / iPad Mini Retina.
LOL, gonna pick one Fire HDX up really soon!
If you're buying based on numbers on a spec sheet.... go for it. Feel free to not report back on your experiences. I think you'll be right at home on the Android message boards where you can spend all day posting your awesome benchmark scores.
well, that and the fact there are fewer apps shipped with it, making it that much lighter ... but i'll leave the exact math to you.
64 bits is a good balance. If the iPad Air had a 65 or 66-bit processor it would add even more weight. I'm glad they didn't include the any large graphics files either. Once you load a couple books on the Kindle, wow man, sack of rocks. Let's do a real comparison here.
If you could get stock Android on the HDX, it would be a much more compelling product at a much better price. The construction is even fantastic. The consumer is seriously winning when a vendor sells products near cost, and profits off the services. The services model is superior.
I wish apple has something up its sleeve for the first half of 2014, not like this year that they waited till summer and im betting they do have something to show us and other companies to copy.
Who says they don't? But they just refreshed a while bunch of things in the last month.

These advertisements from Microsoft and Amazon taking shots at Apple are pretty pathetic. They are completely misleading. The Surface advertisement claims the iPad doesn't have a keyboard. What they don't tell you is the Surface actually doesn't come with a keyboard. Those advertisements also don't tell you the 32gb Surface really only comes with 15gb of space out of the box. Now Amazon is taking a jab at Apple advertising a smaller tablet is lighter then the bigger iPad Air tablet. Pathetic!
Well Amazon the iPad Air is on the larger size of tablets (full sized tablets) and your Kindle Fire HDX is barely on the smaller side along with the iPad Mini, when Apple announced the iPad Air yesterday they said its the lightest full sized tablet in the world. And plus who would want a 'Android' tablet that doesn't run stock Android?

Can you not load any Android app on Amazon tablets? There must be a way to jailbreak it.

Good, go enjoy your incredibly cheap plastic piece of crap. Make sure the door hits you on the way out.

Somebody usually figures out a way. All the previous Fire tablets have been rooted, and somebody got stock Android for it so you could have the vastly better Google Play store. But to my knowledge, nobody has figured this one out yet. That, and we aren't talking about the same kind of user experience. Running some hacked/root/jailbroken nonsense. I've done it in the past, and I just don't bother anymore. It's not worth the tears and trouble.
In response to Apple's new iPads, Amazon took a direct shot at its competitor on the front page of its website Wednesday, saying the Kindle Fire HDX is "lighter than Air" --?even though the new Kindle achieves that weight with a smaller display.
The advertisement is a not-so-subtle jab at Apple's new iPad Air, which shaves nearly a half-pound off the weight of its predecessor to drop to just one pound.
While the Kindle Fire HDX weighs in at 0.82 pounds for the $379 Wi-Fi-only model, it achieves that weight with a screen size of just 8.9 inches. Apple's iPad Air, in contrast, has a larger 9.7-inch Retina display with more screen real estate.
Both devices are also unsurprisingly heavier than Apple's new iPad mini with Retina display, which sports a 7.9-inch screen. Apple's smallest tablet weighs 0.73 pounds in its Wi-Fi-only variety.
Amazon also offers a 7-inch version of its Kindle Fire HDX tablet. It too edges the Retina iPad mini in weight, at just 0.66 pounds, but also sports a screen size nearly a full inch smaller diagonally in the process.

Lol! Lighter in every way possible, including how much use people actually get out of them!

All this does is make Amazon look cheap in my eyes.
I left Amazon behind when they started redirecting searches for "iPad" to their kindle pages. Most of my online shopping is done elsewhere these days.

Pretty stupid to compare the weight of two devices when they aren't even the same size.
Of course, the iPod touch weighs only 3 ounces, so not sure what Amazon is carrying on about?

That's nice.
64 bits weigh twice as much as 32 bits, right?
Man, those bits are really heavy stuff! " src="http://forums-files.appleinsider.com/images/smilies//lol.gif" />
Anyway, both are good tablets. It really is incredible how fast the technology advances!

Off topic: Can you explain how we can read your posts if you're banned? And why you got banned in the first place?
It's awful reading your post and responding when you have that big "b" around your neck. /s

They still make the Kindle Fire?
Hey. Worthless imbecile. Get run over by a Google self-driving car. Stop making accounts here. Stop your spam. You want the law brought down on you?
