So...coming this year, stuff that is better than the iPhone and iPad? Better than the new Mac Pro? Gee whiz, Eddy... Maybe you should under promise and over deliver?
What's he supposed to say? "We've got sh*t products in the pipeline for 2014?
So you think there's absolutely nothing between that statement, and "we've got the best product pipeline that I've seen in my 25 years at Apple,"? If Cue sincerely thought they have nothing really great coming out soon, you really think he would have went as far as that statement? I've never heard of an Apple executive say such a thing, and its not like he was forced to make such a claim. "Stay tuned", or "you'll like what you see" would have been enough if he truly thought they had "shit products". Some of you really have no sense of nuance, and only think in binary.

Since Apple has said ****-all the last 6 months, I think you can give him some leeway. Apple doesn't routinely go around spouting empty statements like that, I take it he's genuinely excited. Whether its "better" than the iPhone/iPad is purely subjective- maybe he's referring to the combination of the next generation of iPhones/iPads/Macs/software/New category coming this year? That would certainly qualify as the "best product pipeline" speaking objectively, it doesnt need to include a time machine. Just the best versions of Apple's products they've ever done, plus some new surprises.

I take it to mean that there's something revolutionary coming out. When you look back at previous keynotes, the ones that really stand out to me are when brand new, revolutionary products are being shown for the first time, and that doesn't happen every year. I'm talking about the first iMac presentation, the first iPhone etc. If this is the best in 25 years, then surely there must be some revolutionary, never before seen product included in this product pipeline, and not just updates to previous product lines.
Of course, I could be completely wrong, because his statement can be interpreted in lots of different ways.

I mean it has to be new product categories right? Not just bigger iPhones etc.
Vapourware will harm apples reputation. You can say this once. Next year if you think the products are the best in a generation, and nothing happened this year, people are going to be sceptical. If they aren't already.

You can say that every year and every year you can be correct.

Could well be, but my question to Cue would be "Does that mean we can't have incremental upgrades along the way?"
I feel like maybe existing products are being ignored while they work on whatever it is we're supposed to see "later in the year." Aside from the Air, has Apple updated anything this year? Maybe I'm just getting impatient because I need a new mini and don't want to pay full pop for two-year-old guts.
It would be nice if Apple would just wipe the dust off a few existing products along the way, like updating remaining USB2 ports (which are still present on a monitor that costs $1000), replacing old 4000-series integrated graphics systems with current versions, and adding AC wireless across the board. None of those would present a particularly daunting challenge and would remove some obvious barriers to buying NOW instead of in the fall.
For me, Mavericks feels brand new. I know it's not being replaced by 10.10 right away... probably not until, what.. October? But I think we have officially entered the age of "change for the sake of change".

Let's wait and see! Mavericks has been excellent for me, however nothing is beyond improvement.

In the case of the Mini I can't understand their reluctance to update the machine even if something better is coming. Let's face it going a year and a half maybe two without an update is not consumer friendly.

Well beyond the Mini what could they update. Let's face it the lack of real updates to the Macs is not Apples fault. Haswell refresh has been a joke.

How about just "We've got some great products coming up this year"?
Saying that it's the best product pipeline in 25 years? Wow, that is one hell of a bold statement to be making, and it sets the expectations sky high.
I'm still a little puzzled and disappointed by the whole Beats deal, which is why I haven't really bothered to comment on it since it became official, but this might just cancel my bad feelings for that out, if what he claims is actually true.
Like many people here have probably been doing, I've been watching Apple keynotes for years and years, and I am now fully expecting to be completely blown away by some amazing Apple products whenever they are announced sometime this year. Anything less than me being completely blown away would now be a disappointment to me, because I am of course expecting the best product pipeline in 25 years to be shown. Apple really has to deliver now.
That recode interview was pretty weak. You didn't really get a sense why Apple bought beats other than they think music curation is important and Jimmy Iovine has an "ear for sound". When Mossberg asked if there was anything innovative Apple could do with headphones Cue gave some lame non-answer about how he and his kids love using Beats headphones. But it now makes perfect sense why Apple announced yesterday. Eddy's interview was 99% about Beats deal. But I would have enjoyed listening to Craig Federighi more.
What if Apple is using Beats to go after the coveted low/mid-tier market.
Apple may have effectively just spent $3B on one of the best lead pools around.
I imagine that there are many beats customers out there who are willing to spend $$$ on headphones but Apple hasn't yet been successful in converting them to iPhone. This Apple-Beats deal should help convince them that iPhones are worth $$$ as well.
How so? What if Apple buying Beats turns some people off from buying their headphones as they don't think Beats is cool anymore now that they're owned by a big company like Apple.
I think that there will be some head butting in the iTunes department... and $3 billion tells me that Eddie isn't going to win.
jmho
He'll probably structured to focus on new artists, and certain regions of the world, reporting back to Cue. I assume this acquisition is an Apple subsidiary so neither guy will have a position in the Apple Executive Team.
As for the rest of the ``Beats Music'' executives, I see them paid a price and walk away as they won't be running much anymore.

Remember the U2 iPod? Maybe we will see a Beats iPhone 6 by Dr. Dre.

Saying the are better is a pretty low bar for Apple. Each revision is the "best ever" and they can say that with a straight face. Usually thinner, faster, more capable, better battery life, and sometimes cheaper. Say we get $100 cheaper iMacs that are spec bumped. Those would be the best in 25 years.
Hope they get a new category out soon. That is something they promised and must deliver.

Yep broadening is what is happening.
Let's wait and see! Mavericks has been excellent for me, however nothing is beyond improvement.
Maybe Apple thinks it is doing us a favor.

Such a bold statement nonetheless.

Leave it to the beav... Great reference... Talk about throw back Thursday!

What job do you think Cook will give to Iovine?
Making music deals? Isn't that one of Cue's jobs?
Running iTunes? Isn't that one of Cue's jobs?

They could just do a mild update to several products and technically it would be the "best product pipeline he's seen in 25 years."
What we want/think his statement to mean: "We will introduce the best revolutionary products I've seen in all my 25 years at Apple."
- and what he actually said are not the same.

Is Apple morphing into Sony to become a full fledged consumer electronics company? Will we see Apple refrigerators, lawn mowers, etc. all running iOS?
